level is too low. The coolant is
too hot and the engine is no longer being

Stop as soon as possible and allow the
engine and the coolant to cool down.
6 Check the coolant level, while observing
the warn ings, and top up the coolant if
nec essary (
=page 247). If the coolant
level is correct, the radiator
fan may be faulty. The coolant is too hot
and the engine is no longer being coo led
sufficiently. 6
If the coolant temperature is below
130 °C ,you can drive on to the nearest
qual ified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Serv ice Ce ntre.
6 When doing so, avoid placing a heavy
strain on the engine (e.g. driving on

You cannot lock or unlock the vehicle us-
ing the KEYLESS GO key. There is strong interference from a radio

Lock or unlock the vehicle using the
emergency key element (=
page 341). The battery check lamp in the KEYLESS GO
key does not light up
when tested. The KEYLESS GO key batteries are dis-
charged. 6
Change the batteries ( =page 355). The vehicle cannot be started using the
KEYLESS GO key and the selector lever
button. The KEYLESS GO key is in the vehi-
cle. A door is open. The key cannot be easily
detected. 6
Close the door and restart the engine. You did not depress the brake pedal
when
starting the engine. 6
Depress the brake pedal and press the
KEYLESS GO button on the selector le-
ver. There is strong interference from a radio
source. 6
Start your vehic lewith the KEYLESS GO
key in the ignition lock. You have lost the KEYLESS GO key. 6
Have the KEYLESS GO ke ycancelled at
a Mercedes-Benz Servic eCentre.
6 Report the loss immediately to the ve-
hicle insurers.
6 If necessary, have the manual locks

6 Remove crank 3from the Owner's
Manual wallet.
6 Insert the crank into the hexagon
socket.
6 Open or clos ethe roof by turning the
crank inthe appro priate direction.
i Only turn the cra nkslowly, and do not jerk it.
Once you have opened or closed the slidin g/
tilting sunroof manuall y,you must then reset it
(= page 344). Resetting
thesliding /tilti ng sunroof
6 Remove the fuse for the sliding /tilting
sunroof from the main fuse box
(= page 385).
6 Put the fuse back in.
6 Switch on the igniti on.
6 Press the sliding /tilting sunroof switch
in the raise direction until the roof is
fully up, and hold itthere for approxi-
mately on esecond.
The roof is reset. Releasing
the roll-over bars manually
If the roll-over bar release system isfaulty,
the roll-over bars can be released manual-
ly.
6 Close the soft top ( =page 184).

Opening /closing in an emergency
Check the following points if the soft top
does not close automatically:
! Is the boot separator engaged
(= page 188)?
! Is the skibag cover closed
(=
page 189)?
! Have the roll-over bars been deployed?
! Is the boot lid closed?
! Is the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If the automatic function still does not
work, you may close the soft top manually.
You will require somebody to assist you in
carrying out this work. i Soft top emergency operation isa complex,
technically demanding procedure req uiring a
great deal of strength. Only close the soft top
manually under extreme circumstances. In this
sit uation, it is better to consult a qualified spe-
cia list workshop, e.g. a Mercede s-Be nz Service
Centre. 6
Apply the parking brake.
6 Open the side windo ws.
6 Lower the head restraints ( =page 94).
i The roll-over bars may have been deployed
if the head restraints cannot be lowered. For in-

6 Remove the key from the ignition lock.

Take the two straps from the vehicle

6 Using the wheel wrench, loosen the
wheel bol tson the wheel you wish to
change by about one turn. Do not re-
move them.
The jacking points are located to the rear
of the wheel housings of the front wheels
and in front of the wheel housings of the
rear wheels.

!Switch offthe engine and remove thekey
before you loose nor disconnect the terminal
clamps from the batter y.You may otherwise de-
st roy electronic components, e.g. the alternator.
Have the starter batter yche cked and, ifneces-
sary, replaced every two years or at least every
20,000 km ata qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a Merce des-Be nz Service Centre. The battery
islocated in the engine com-
partment on the right-hand side, when
vi ewed inthe direction of travel, on the
front bulk head and under the fil ter bo x.

Risk of inju ry For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use batteries which
have bee
nsp ecially tested and approved for
your vehicl eby Mercedes-Benz. These bat-
teries are more impact-re sistant so that oc-
cup ants do not suffer acid burns if a battery
is damaged in the event of an accident.
To prevent acid burn sand scald ing, you
must obse rve the following safety precau-
tions wh enhandling batteries:
! Do not lean over the battery.
! Do not place any metal objects on the
battery. You could otherwise cause a
short circuit and the highly explosive gas
mixture in the battery could ignite.
! Make sure that you do not become elec-
trostatically charged, e.g. by wearing
synthetic clothing or due to friction be-
tween fabric s.Do not therefore pull or
pu sh the battery over carpete dfloors or
other synthetic materials. !
Do not touch the battery under any ci r-
cums tances. To eliminate any electro-
static charge, first get out of the vehicle
and touch the bodywork.
! Do not rub the batt ery with a cloth. The
battery could explode due to electro-
static charging when you touch the bat-
tery or even by sparks ar cing between
you and the battery.

Only use battery chargers with a maximum
ch arging voltage of 14.8 V. 6
Charge the battery.
Observe the notes inthe operating
instructions foryour battery charge r.
6 Refit the charge d battery.
To do so, follow the steps described
under "Removing the battery" in the
re ve rse order.
! Always conne ctthe battery in the order de-
scribed below. Never swap the terminal clamps.
You could otherwise damage the vehicle's elec-
tronics.
6 Switch off all electrical consumers.
6 Connect the positive terminal and
secure the cover.
6 Connect the negative terminal. 6
Connect the breather hose.
Make sure that the battery is fitted with
a stopper opposite the breather hose.
i If the power supply tothe battery has been
interrupted (e. g.it has been reconnected), you
must carry out the following tasks:
! Set the clock (= page 121)

Risk of acid burns During the charging process, there is a risk
of acid burns due to the gases escaping
from th ebattery. Do not lean over the bat-

Jump-starting
If the battery is discharged, the engine can
be started from another vehicle using jump
leads. Forim proved accessibility, your ve-
hicle has been fitted with a positive and
negative contact in the eng ine compart-
ment.
Please note:
! Jump-starting must only be performed
when the engine and catalytic convert-
er are cold.
! Do not start the engine if the battery
has frozen. Let th ebattery thaw out
fir st.
! Jump-starting may only be performed
from batteries with the sam enominal
vol tage.
! Use jump leads for jump -starti ng.You
can obtain further information from a
qualified speci alistw orkshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. !
Avoid repeated and lengthy starting
at tem pts.
Never start the vehicle using a rapid battery
charger.
6 Make sure thatthe two vehicles do not
touch.
