You can determine whether the multifunction
displaypermanently shows your speed or the
outside temperature.

Setting the brightness of the instrument
cluster lighting and switches
The lighting in the instrumentcluster,inthe
displays and the controls in the vehicle
interior can be adjusted using the
Brightness Display/Switches:function.

XPress the or button to select the
Lightssubmenu.

Activating/deactivating surround
lighting and exterior lighting delayed
switch-off
XPress the \nor button on the
steeringwheel to select theSett.menu.
XPress the or button to select the
Lightssubmenu.
XPress to confirm.
XPress or to select the
Surround Lightingfunction.
When theSurround Lightingfunction is
activated, the light cone and the area
around the vehicle are displayedinred in
the multifunction display.
XPress the button to save the setting.
Deactivating delayed switch-off of the
exterior lighting temporarily:
XBefore leaving the vehicle, turn the
SmartKey to position0in the ignition lock.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
If you have activated theSurround
Lightingfunction and the light switch is set
to \r,the following functions are activated
when it is dark:
RSurround lighting:the exterior lighting
remains lit for 40 seconds after unlocking
with the SmartKey. If you start the engine,
the surround lighting is switched off and
the automatic headlamp mode is activated
(Ypage 117).
RExterior lighting delayed switch-off:the
exterior lighting remains lit for 60seconds
after the engine is switched off. If you close
all the doors and the trunklid, the exterior
lighting goes off after5seconds.

lighting delayed switch-off
If you activate theInterior Lighting
Delayfunction,the interior lighting remains
on for 20seconds after you remove the
SmartKey from the ignition lock.

When theInterior Lighting Delay
function is activated, the vehicle interior is

door locking mechanism

When theAutomaticDoorLockfunction
is activated, the vehicle doors are displayed
in red in the multifunction display.
XPress the button to save the setting.
If you activate theAutomatic Door Lock
function,the vehicle is centrally locked above
aspeed of around9mph (15 km/h).

Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking verification signal
If you switch on theAcousticLockfunction,
an acoustic signal sounds when you lock the
vehicle.
XPress the \nor button on the
steering wheel to select theSett.menu.
XPress or to select theVehicle
submenu.
XPress to confirm.
XPress the or button to select the
Acoustic Lockfunction.
If theAcousticLockfunction is activated,
the symbol in the multifunction
displaylights up red.
XPress the button to save the setting.
Activating/deactivating the radar sensor
system
XPress the \nor button on the
steering wheel to select theSett.menu.
XPress or to select theVehicle
submenu.
XPress to confirm.

Convenience
Activating/deactivatingtheEASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature
GWARNING
When theEASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature adjusts
thesteering wheel,you and other vehicle
occupants–particularly children–could
become trapped. There isarisk of injury.
While the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature is
making adjustments, make sure that no one
has any body parts in the sweep of the
steering wheel.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rpress one of the memory function position
buttons, or
Rmove the switch for steering wheel
adjustmentinthe opposite direction to that
in which the steering wheel is moving.
The adjustment process is stopped.
XPress the \nor button on the
steering wheel to select theSettings
menu.
XPress the or button to select the
Conveniencesubmenu.
XPress to confirm.
XPress the or button to select the
Easy Entry/Exit:function.
If theEasy Entry/Exitfunction is
activated, the vehicle steering wheel is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.

Switching the belt adjustment on/off
XPress the \nor button on the
steering wheel to select theSett.menu.
XPress the or button to select the
Conveniencesubmenu.

Belt Adjustmentfunction.
When theBelt Adjustmentfunction is
activated, the vehicle seat belt is displayed
in red in the multifunction display.

Switching the fold-in mirrors with the
locking featureon/off
This function is only available on vehicles with
the memory function (Ypage 112).
When you activate theAuto. Mirror
Foldingfunction, the exterior mirrors are
folded in when the vehicle is locked. If you
unlock the vehicle and then openadoor, the
exterior mirrors fold out again.
XPress the \nor button on the
steering wheel to select theSett.menu.
XPress the or button to select the
Conveniencesubmenu.
XPress to confirm.
XPress or to select theAuto.
Mirror Foldingfunction.
If theAuto. Mirror Foldingfunction is
activated, the vehicle's exterior mirror is
displayed in red in the multifunction
display.

To fold the exterior mirrors in or out
If you have switched on theAuto. Mirror
Foldingfunction and you fold in the exterior
mirrors by pressing button ,the exterior

You can then only fold out the exterior mirrors
using button .
Restoringthe factory settings

The RACETIMER is only intended for useona
closed race circuit. Do not usethe function
on public roads.
Youcan startthe RACETIMER when the
engine is running or if the SmartKey is in
position2in the ignition lock.
XPress \nor on the steering wheel
to select theAMGmenu.
XPress the button repeatedlyuntilthe
RACETIMER is shown.
XTo start:press the button to startthe
RACETIMER.
Displaying the intermediate time
XPress the \nor button to select
Interm. Time.
XPress to confirm.
The intermediate time is displayed for five
seconds.

iIt is possible to storeamaximum of

The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you
stop the vehicleand turn the SmartKey to
position1in the ignition lock. If youturn the
SmartKey to position2or3and then press
to confirmStart,timing is continued.
Resetting the current lap
XStop the RACETIMER.

ResetLap.
XPress to reset the laptime to "0".

Deleting all laps
If you switch offthe engine, the RACETIMER
is reset to "0" after 30 seconds. All laps are
deleted.
You cannot delete individualstored laps. If
you have stopped 16 laps, the current lap
does not have to be reset.
XReset the current lap.

Reset Race Timer?appears in the
multifunction display.
XPress the button to selectYesand

Display messages
Introduction
General notes
Display messagesappear in themultifunction display.
Display messageswithgraphic displays may be shown in simplified forminthe Operator's
Manual and may differ from the messages shown in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the displaymessages and follow the additional notes in
this Operator's Manual.
Certain displaymessages are accompanied by an audible warning tone oracontinuous tone.
When the ignition is switched off, all displaymessages are deleted, apart from some high-
priority displaymessages. Once the causes of the high-priority displaymessages have been
rectified, the corresponding displaymessages are also deleted.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on:
RHOLD function (Ypage 186)
RParking (Ypage 167)
Hiding display messages
XPress the or button on the steering wheel to hide the displaymessage.
The displaymessage is cleared.
The multifunction displayshows high-priority displaymessages in red. Some high-priority
displaymessages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction displayshows these messages continuously until the causes for the
messages have been remedied.
Message memory
The on-board computer saves certain displaymessages in themessage memory.You can
call up the display messages:
XPress the \nor button on the steeringwheel to select theServ.menu.
If there are display messages, the multifunction display shows2Messages,for example.
XPress the or button to select the entry, e.g.2Messages.

ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESP®(Electronic Stability
Program), BAS (Brake Assist), PRE-SAFE®,the HOLD function and
hill start assist are temporarily unavailable.
BAS PLUS and PRE-SAFE®Brake may also have failed.
In addition, the , and warning lamps light up in
the instrumentcluster.
ATTENTIONASSIST is deactivated.
Possible causes are:
Rself-diagnosis is not yet complete.
Rthe on-board voltage may be insufficient.
GWARNING
The brake system continues to function normally, but without the
functions listed above. The wheels could therefore lock if you
brake hard, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely
affected. The braking distance in an emergency braking situation
can increase.
If ESP®is not operational, ESP®is unable to stabilize the vehicle.
There is an increased risk of skidding and an accident.
XCarefully driveasuitable distance, making slight steering
movements, ataspeed above 12 mph (20 km/h).
If the displaymessage disappears, the functions mentioned
above are available again.
If the displaymessage continues to be displayed:
XDrive on carefully.
XVisitaqualified specialist workshop.
Inoperative See
Operator's Manual
ABS,ESP®,BAS,PRE-SAFE®,the HOLD function and hill start
assist are unavailable due toamalfunction.
The (USA only)/ (Canada only), , and
