Panic alarm
XTo activate:press\rbuttonfor at
least one second.
An alarm sounds and the exterior lighting
flashes.
XTo deactivate:press\rbutton
again.
or
XInsert the SmartKey intothe ignition lock.
or
XPress the KEYLESS-GO Start/Stop button.
The KEYLESS-GO key must be in the
vehicle.

Important safetynotes
GWARNING
Modifications to the restraint systemscould
result in them not functioning properly any
more. The restraint systemscould then no
longer protect vehicle occupants as they are
designed to do and could fail in the eventof
an accidentoractivateunexpectedly, for
example. Thereisanincreased risk of injury.
Never modify partsoftherestraint systems.
Do notattempttomodify the wiring as well as
electronic components or their software.
If it is necessary to modify an air bag system
to accommodateaperson with disabilities,
contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz center.

In this section,you will learn the most
important facts about the restraint system
components of the vehicle.
The restraint system consistsof:
RSeat belts
RChild restraint systems
RLATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seat securing
system
Additional protection is provided by:
RSRS (Supplemental Restraint System)
RNECK-PRO head restraints/NECK-PRO
luxury head restraints
RPRE-SAFE®
RAir bag system components with:

-Front-passenger seat with Occupant
Classification System (OCS)
The different air bag systems work
independently of each other. The protective
functions of the system work in conjunction
with each other. Not all air bags are deployed
in an accident.

ATA (anti-theftalarm system)
XTo arm:lockthe vehicle with the SmartKey
or KEYLESS-GO.
Indicator lampflashes. The alarm
system is armed after approximately
15 seconds.
XTo disarm:unlock the vehicle with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
Avisual and audible alarm is triggeredifthe
alarm system is armed and you open:
Radoor
Rthe vehicle with the mechanical key
Rthe trunk lid
Rthe hood
XTo turn thealarmoff with the
SmartKey:press theorbutton
on the SmartKey.
The alarm is switched off.
or
XInsert the SmartKey intothe ignition lock.
The alarm is switched off.
XTo stop thealarmusing KEYLESS-GO:
grasp the outside door handle. The
SmartKey must be outside the vehicle.
The alarm is switched off.
or
XPress the Start/Stop button on the
dashboard. The SmartKey must be inside
the vehicle.
The alarm is switched off.
The alarm is not switched off, even if you
close the open door that triggered it, for
example.
iIf the alarm stays on for more than
30 seconds, the mbrace emergency call
system automatically sendsamessage to
the Customer Assistance Center by text
message or data connection.The
emergency call system sends the message
provided that:
Ryou have subscribed to the mbrace
service
Rthe mbrace service has been activated
properly
Rthe necessary mobile phone network is
available

iIf thesettingofthelockingsystem is
changed within thesignal range of the
vehicle,pressingtheorbutton:
Rlocks or

The SmartKey nowfunctionsasfollows:
XTo unlock thedriver's door:pressthe
buttononce.
XTo unlock centrally:pressthe
buttontwice.
XTo lock centrally:pressthebutton.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as
follows:
XTo unlock thedriver's door:touch the
inner surface of thedoor handle on the
driver'sdoor.
XTo unlock centrally:touch theinner
surface of thedoor handle on thefront-
passenger door or therear door.
XTo lock centrally:touch theoutersensor
surface on one of the door handles.
XTo restorethe factorysettings:press
and hold down theandbuttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the batterychecklamp
flashes twice (Ypage 79).
Mechanicalkey
General notes
If thevehicle can no longer be lockedor
unlocked withtheSmartKey, use the
mechanical key.
If you use themechanical keytounlock and
open thedriver'sdoor or thetrunk lid, the
anti-theftalarm system will be triggered
(Ypage 74).
There are several ways to turnoff the alarm:
XTo turn the alarm off with the
SmartKey:press theorbutton
on the SmartKey.
or
XInsert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
or
XTo deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-
GO:press the Start/Stop button in the
ignition lock. The SmartKey must be in the
vehicle.
or
XLock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The SmartKey must be outside the
vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the mechanical
key, the fuel filler flapwill not be unlocked
automatically.
XTo unlock thefuel filler flap:insert the
SmartKey intothe ignition lock.

ProblemPossible causes/consequences andSolutions
The engine cannot be
started using the
SmartKey.
The on-board voltage is too low.
XSwitch off non-essential consumers, e.g. seat heating or interior
lighting, and try to start the engine again.
If this does not work:
XCheck the starter battery and charge it if necessary
(Ypage 324).
or
XJump-start the vehicle (Ypage 326).
or
XConsultaqualified specialist workshop.
The engine cannot be
started using KEYLESS-
GO. The SmartKey is in
the vehicle.
Adoor is open. Therefore, the SmartKey cannot be detected as
easily.
XClose the door and try to start the vehicle again.
There is interferencefromapowerful source of radio waves.
XStart your vehicle with the SmartKey in the ignition lock.
Doors

GWARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
Ropen the doors, thus endangering other
people or road users.
Rget out and disrupt traffic.
Roperate the vehicle's equipment.
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
Rrelease the parking brake.
Rshiftingthe automatic transmission out of
park positionP
RStart the engine.
There isarisk of an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alwaystake the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children or animals unattended in the
vehicle. Always keep the SmartKey out of
reach of children.
GWARNING
If persons, particularly children are subjected
to prolonged exposure to extreme heat or
cold, there isarisk of injury, possibly even
fatal. Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.
Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can openadoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. If the vehicle has
been locked with the SmartKey or with
KEYLESS-GO, openingadoor from the inside
will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (Ypage 74).
You can only open the rear doors from inside
the vehicle if they are not secured by the
child-proof locks (Ypage 65).

You could therefore lock yourself out if:
Rthe vehicle is being pushed.
Rthe vehicle is being towed.
Rthe vehicle is onaroller dynamometer.
You can also switchthe automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board
computer (Ypage 232).
Unlocking thedriver'sdoor
(mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Ypage 78).
XInsert the mechanical key intothe lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go.

To unlock
XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
to position
.
The door is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
XInsert the mechanical key intothe
SmartKey.
If you use the mechanical key to unlockand
open the driver's door, the anti-theftalarm
system will be triggered(Ypage 74).
Locking thevehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
XOpen the driver's door.
XClose the front-passenger door, the rear
doors and the trunk lid.
XPress the locking button (Ypage 83).
XCheck whether the locking knobs on the
front-passenger door and the rear doors
are still visible. Press down the locking
knobs manually, if necessary (Ypage 82).
XClose the driver's door.
XTake the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Ypage 78).
XInsert the mechanical key intothe lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go.

To lock
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise as far
as it will go to position
.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
XMake sure that the doors and the trunk lid
are locked.
XInsert the mechanical key intothe
SmartKey.
