The pollutant emission ofyourvehicle isdirectlyrelatedtothewayyou operateyourvehicle.
Helptoprotectthe environmentbyoperatingyourvehicle in an environmentallyresponsi‐ble manner. Please observethefollowingrec‐ommendations on operating conditions andpersonal drivingstyle.
Operating conditions:
Make surethatthe tire pressure is cor‐rect.
Do not carryany unnecessaryweight(e.g.roof luggageracks onceyou nolonger needthem).
Adheretothe service intervals.Aregularly servicedvehicle will contrib‐utetoenvironmental protection.
Always havemaintenanceworkcarriedout at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Personal drivingstyle:
Do not depressthe accelerator pedalwhenstartingthe engine.
Do notwarmupthe engine whilethevehicle isstationary.
Drive carefully and maintain a suitabledistance fromthevehicle in front.
Avoid frequent, sudden accelerationand braking.
Changegear in good time and use eachgear onlyupto

Airbags and EmergencyTensioning Devices,aswell as control units and sensorsfortherestraint systems, may be installed inthefol‐lowing areas ofyourvehicle:
RDoors
RDoor pillars
RDoor sills
RSeats
RCockpit
RInstrument cluster
RCenter console
RLateralroof frame
Do not install accessory parts such asaudio systems inthese areas.
Do not carryoutrepairs orwelding.
Haveaftermarket installation of acces‐sories carried out at aqualified special‐istworkshop.
You could jeopardizethe operating safety ofyourvehicle ifyou use parts, tires and wheels aswellas accessoriesrelevanttosafety which havenotbeen approvedbyMercedes-Benz. Safety-rele‐vant systems, e.g.the brake system, may mal‐function. Only use Mercedes-Benz GenuinePartsor parts of equalquality.Only use tires, wheelsand accessoriesthat havebeen specificallyapprovedforyourvehicle model.
Mercedes-Benz GenuineParts are subjecttostrictquality control. Each part has been spe‐cially developed, manufactured or selectedforMercedes-Benzvehicles andfine-tunedforthem.Therefore, only Mercedes-Benz GenuinePartsshould be used.

This Operator's Manual describes all models andallstandard and optional equipmentavailableforyourvehicle atthe time ofthis Operator's Man‐ual goingtopress. Country-specific differencesare possible. Notethatyourvehicle may not beequipped with allfeatures described. This is alsothe casefor systems and functionsrelevanttosafety.Therefore,the equipment onyourvehiclemay differ fromthat inthe descriptions and illus‐trations.
The original purchase agreementforyourvehiclecontains a list of all ofthe systems inyourvehi‐cle.

Status ofthe front passenger front airbag
Function ofthe automatic front passengerfront airbag shutoffThe automatic front passenger front airbag shut‐off is abletodetect whetherthe front passengerseat is occupiedbya person or achildrestraintsystem. The front passenger front airbag andfront passenger knee airbag are enabled or disa‐bled accordingly.
When installing achildrestraint system onthefront passenger seat, always make sure ofthefollowing:
REnsurethatthechildrestraint system is posi‐tioned correctly (→page47).
RAlways observethechildrestraint systemmanufacturer's installation instructions.
RNever place objects, e.g. cushions, under orbehindthechildrestraint system.
RFullyretractthe seat cushion length adjust‐ment.
RThe entire base ofthechildrestraint systemmust alwaysrestonthe seat cushion ofthefront passenger seat.
RThe backrest oftheforward-facingchildrestraint system must lie asflat as possibleagainstthe backrest ofthe front passengerseat.
RThechildrestraint system must nottouchtheroof or be put understrainbythe headrestraints.Adjustthe seat backrest inclina‐tion andthe headrestraint setting accord‐ingly.
\nWARNINGRisk of injuryor death duetoobjects betweenthe sitting surface andthechildrestraint system
Objects betweenthe sitting surface andthechildrestraint system could affectthe func‐tion ofthe automatic front passenger airbagshutoff.
This couldresult inthe front passenger air‐bag not functioning as intended during anaccident.
Do not place any objects betweenthesitting surface andthechildrestraintsystem.
The entire base ofthechildrestraintsystem must alwaysrestonthe sittingsurface ofthe front passenger seat.
The backrest oftheforward-facingchildrestraint system must, asfar as possi‐ble, beresting onthe seat backrest ofthe front passenger seat.
Always comply withthechildrestraintsystem manufacturer's installationinstructions.
A person onthe front passenger seat mustobservethefollowing information:
RFasten seat belts correctly (→page33).
RSit in an almost upright seat position withtheir back againstthe seat backrest.
RSit withtheirfeetresting onthefloor, if pos‐sible.
The front passenger front airbag mayotherwisebe disabledbymistake,forexample inthefol‐lowing situations:
RThe front passenger transferstheirweightbysupportingthemselves on avehicle armrest.

\nWARNINGRisk of injuryor death whenthePASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicatorlamp is lit
IfthePASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicatorlampremains lit afterthe system self-test,the front passenger air bag is deactivated. Itwill not be deployed intheevent of an acci‐dent. Inthis case,the front passenger air bagcannotperformits intended protective func‐tion, e.g. when a person is seated inthe frontpassenger seat.
That person could,forexample, come intocontact with thevehicle interior, especially ifthe person is sittingtoo closetothe cockpit.
Ifthe front passenger seat is occupied,always ensurethat:
RThe classification ofthe person inthefront passenger seat is correct andthefront passenger air bag is enabled ordeactivated in accordance withthe per‐son inthe front passenger seat.
RThe person is seated properlywith a cor‐rectlyfastened seat belt.
RThe front passenger seat has been movedasfar back as possible.

PRE-SAFE®system
PRE-SAFE®(anticipatoryoccupant protec‐tion)
PRE-SAFE®is abletodetect certain critical driv‐ing situations and implement pre-emptive meas‐urestoprotectthevehicle occupants.
PRE-SAFE®can implementthefollowing meas‐ures independently of eachother:
RTighteningthe seat belts onthe driver's seatand front passenger seat.
RClosingthe side windows.
RVehicles with sliding sunroof:Closingthesliding sunroof.
RVehicles with memory function:Movingthe front passenger seattoa morefavorableseat position.
RVehicles with multicontour seat:Increas‐ingthe air pressure inthe seat side bolstersofthe seat backrest.
RPRE-SAFE®Sound: providedthatthe multi‐media system is switched on,generates abrief noise signaltostimulatethe innate pro‐tective mechanism of a person's hearing.
NOTEDamagecausedbyobjects inthefootwell or behindthe seat
The automatic adjustment ofthe seat posi‐tion mayresult in damagetothe seat and/orthe object.

Always lockrear seat backrests afterinstallingTopTether belts.
Observethe lockverification indicator.
Ifthe seat backrest is not engaged and locked,this will be shown onthe multifunction displayonthe instrument cluster.

Iftherear benchseat/rear seat and seatbackrest are not engagedtheycouldfoldfor‐wards, e.g. when braking suddenly or intheevent of an accident.
RIfthis isthe case,thevehicle occupantwould beforced intothe seat beltbytherear benchseat/rear seat orbythe seatbackrest. The seat belt cannotprotect asintended and couldresult in additionalinjury.
RObjects or loads inthe trunk/cargo com‐partment cannotberestrainedbytheseat backrest.
Make surethatthe seat backrest andtherear benchseat/rear seat areengaged beforeeverytrip.
Ifthe seat backrest is not engaged and locked,this will be shown onthe multifunction displayonthe instrument cluster.
When installing a belt-securedchildrestraintsystem, observethefollowing:
sAlways comply withthe manufacturer'sinstallation and operating instructionsforthechildrestraint system used.
sWhen using a category 0/0+ baby carseat and a category Irearward-facingchildrestraint system on arear seat:adjustthe front seat sothatthe seat doesnottouchthechildrestraint system.
sYou can havethe headrestraints oftherearseatsremoved and installedbyaqualifiedspecialistworkshop. This may be necessaryforthe use of certainchildrestraint sys‐tems.

When installing a belt-securedchildrestraintsystem onthe front passenger seat, alwaysobservethefollowing:
sObservethechildrestraint system manufac‐turer's installation and operating instruc‐tions.
sWhen using aforward-facingchildrestraintsystem in Group I:removethe headrestraint fromtherespective seat, if possi‐ble.
Whenyouremovethechildrestraint sys‐tem, installthe headrestraint again immedi‐ately and adjust allthe headrestraints cor‐rectly.
sThe backrestoftheforward-facingchildrestraint system must lie asflat as possibleagainstthe backrest ofthe front passengerseat.

Setthe front passenger seat asfar back aspossible and movethe seat intothe highestposition.
Fullyretractthe seat cushion length adjust‐ment.
Adjustthe seat cushion inclination sothatthe front edge ofthe seat cushion is inthe
highest position andtherear edge oftheseat cushion is inthe lowestposition.
Setthe seat backresttoan almostverticalposition.
Installthechildrestraint system.The entire base ofthechildrestraint systemmust alwaysrestonthe seat cushion ofthefront passenger seat.
Always make surethatthe shoulder beltstrap is correctlyrouted fromthe seat beltoutlet ofthevehicletothe shoulder beltguide onthechildrestraint system.The shoulder beltstrap must beroutedfor‐wards and downwards fromthe seat belt out‐let.
If necessary,adjustthe seat belt outlet andthe front passenger seat accordingly.

This meansthatthereverse function cannotprevent someone from becoming trapped inthese situations.
When closing, make surethat no bodyparts are inthe closing area.
If someone becomes trapped, pressthebbuttontoopenthe side windowagain.
