The handling characteristics of
aladen vehi-
cle are dependent on the distribution of the
load within the vehicle. For this reason, you
should observe the following notes when
transportin gaload:
R never exceed the maximum permissible
gross vehicle weight or the permissible axle
loads for the vehicle (including occupants).
R position heavy loads as far forwards and as
low in the boot as possible.
R the load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
R alway splace the load against the rear or
fronts eat backrests. Make sure that the
seat backrest sare securely locked into
place.
R alway splace the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R secure the load with sufficiently stron gand
wear-resistan tload restraints. Pad sharp
edges for protection.
i Load restraints are available at any quali-
fied specialist workshop, e.g. aMercedes-
Benz Servic eCentre. Stowage compartments

Risk of injury
The stowage compartmentsm ust be closed
when items are stored in them. Luggage nets
are not designed to secure heavy items of
luggage.
You or other vehicle occupant scould be
injured by object sbeing thrown around if you:
R brake sharply
R change direction suddenly
R are involved in an accident
Sharp-edged and fragile object smust not be
placed in the luggage net. Do not place hard object
sinthe map pockets.
Object smust not protrude from the map
pockets.
Glove compartment i
Dependin gonthe vehicle's equipment,
there is an AUX-IN connection installed in
the glove compartment,oraM edia Inter-
face*, which is auniversal interface for
portable audio equipment, e.g. for an iPod
or USB device; see the separate Audio or
COMAND APS* operating instructions. X
To open: pull handle 0046and fold out glove
compartment flap 0047.
X To close: fold glove compartment flap 0047
upwards until it engages. X
To lock: insert the emergenc ykey element
(Y page 249) into the lock and turn it 90°
clockwise to position 004B.
X To unlock: insert the emergenc ykey ele-
ment (Y page 249) into the lock and turn
it 90° anti-clockwise to position 004A.166

The release wheel is locate dinthe boot
behind the trim on the left-hand side. G
Risk of accident
Make sure that the ball coupling is engaged,
either in its folded-ou torfolded-in position,
and that the indicator lamp is off.
Do not turn the release wheel whe natrailer
is coupled up .Otherwise, the traile rmight
detach. X
To ope nthe cover: turn handle 0046anti-
clockwise and fol ddownc over 0047. X
Pull ou trelease wheel 0047.
X Turn release wheel 0047anti-clockwise until
the ball coupling releases and folds out

capabilities from astandstill refer to sea

note that th epowe routput of th eengine,
and consequentl ythe vehicle's gradient-
climbing capability, decreas ewithi ncrea s-

i Check the expiry date of the first-ai dkit
annually ,and replace the contents when
necessary. The first-ai
dkit is located on the right-hand
side trim panel (when viewed in the direction

X Remove first-ai dkit0047. Fire extinguisher*
i Have the fire extinguisher refilled after
each use and checked every two years.
Otherwise, it may fail in an emergency.

work on the vehicle.
Make sure tha tthe jack is place donafirm,
non-slip ,lev el surface. Do not us ewooden
blocks or similar objects as ajack underlay.
Otherwise, the jack will not be able to achieve
its load-bearing capacity du etothe restricted
height.
Do not start the engine at any time whil ea
whee lisbeing changed.
Do not li eunder the vehicl ewhenitisb eing
supporte dbythe jack. If yo udonot raise the
vehicl easd escribed, it could slip off the jack
(e.g. if the engine is started or if adoorort he
boot li disopenedorc losed)and yo ucould be

Parking up the vehicle
Problem Possible causes/consequences and

parked up for longer
than four weeks. The battery can be damaged through exhaustive discharge.

Disconnect the battery (Y page 275) or connect toatrickle
charger.
i Have the battery checked at aqualified specialist workshop,
e.g. aMercedes-Benz Service Centre. The vehicle is to be left
parked up for longer
than six weeks. Damage resulting from non-use may occur if the vehicle is parked
up for long periods.

Visit aqualified specialist workshop and seek advice. Locking/unlocking in an emergency
Emergency key element
If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the key, use the emergency
key element.
If you use the emergency key element to
unlock and open the driver's door or the boot
lid, the anti-theft alarm system* will be trig-
gered (Y page 58).
There are several waystot urn off the alarm:
X Press the 0036or0037 button on the key.
or
X Insert the key into the ignition lock.
or
X Press the Start/Stop button* in the ignition
lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS
GO*. The key must be outside the vehicle. Removing the emergency key element X

the arrow and at the same time remove
emergency key element 0047from the key. Unlocking the vehicle
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked cen-
trally with the key or KEYLESS GO*:
X Remove the emergency key element from
