Restoring the factory settings
X Press the %and& buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery check lamp flashe stwice. Emergenc

General notes If th

If you use th eemergency key element to
unlock and open th edriver' sdoor or th eboot
lid, th eanti-thef talarm system will be trig-
gered (Y page 68).
There are several ways to tur noff the alarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the key: press
the % or& button on the key.
or
X Insert the key into the ignition lock.
or
X To deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press the Start/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
Removing the emergency key element X
Pus hrelease catch :in the direction of
the arrow and at the same time, remove
emergency key element ;from the key. Keyb

Important safety notes It is advisable to have batteries replaced at a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

Unlocking the driver's door (emer-
gency key element)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the key, use the emergency key element.
If you use the emergency key element to
unlock and open the driver' sdoor, the anti-
thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 68).
X Take the emergency key elemen tout of the
ke y( Ypage 74).
X Inser tthe emergency key element into the
lock of the driver's door as far as it will go. X
Turn the emergency key element anti-
clockwise to position 1.
The door is unlocked.
i On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the
emergency key element clockwise.
X Turn the emergency key element back and
remove it.
X Insert the emergency key element into the
key. Locking the vehicle (emergency key
element)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
key, use the emergency key element.
X Open the driver's door.
X Close the front-passenger door and the
boot lid.
X Press the locking button (Y page 78).
X Check whether the locking knob on the
front-passenger door is still visible. Press down the locking knob by hand, if neces-
sary.
X Close the driver's door.
X Take the emergency key element out of the
key (Y page 74).
X Insert the emergency key element into the
lock of the driver's door as far as it will go. X
Turn the emergency key element clockwise
as far as it will go to position 1.
i On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the
emergency key element anti-clockwise.
X Turn the emergency key element back and
remove it.
X Make sure that the doors and the boot lid
are locked.
X Insert the emergency key element into the
key. Boot
Important safety notes
Do not leave the key in the boot. You could
otherwise lock yourself out. G
WARNING
Exhaust fumes could enter the vehicle interior
if the engine is running and the boot lid is
open. This could poison you. Therefore, you
should make sure that the boot lid is always
closed when the engine is running.
! The boot lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the boot lid. Boot

i IfaK EYLESS-GO key is detected in the
boot, the boot lid cannot be locked and
then opens again. Opening/closing automatically from
outside
Important safet ynotes G
WARNING
Only for the United Kingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key, the double lock
function is activated as standard. It is then not
possible to open the doors from inside the
vehicle.
Therefore, do not leave any people behind in
the vehicle, particularly children ,elderly peo-
ple or people in need of special assistanc eif
the vehicle has been locked with the key. As
ar esult, they may not be able to free them-
selves in the event of an emergency. As a
result, they could be seriously or even fatally
injured by prolonged exposure to extremely
high or low temperatures, for example. In this
case, rescuin gpeople from outside the vehi-
cle is difficult.
Deactivate the interior motion sensor before
you lock the vehicle with the key. The doors
can then be opened from the inside after the
vehicle has been locked from the outside with
the key.
! The boot lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that ther eis
sufficien tclearance above the boot lid.

Opening
You can unlock and open the boot lid simul-
taneously with the key.
X Press and hold the Fbutton on the key
until the boot lid opens. Opening automatically from inside
You can open the boot lid from the driver's
seat when the vehicle is stationary and
unlocked. X
To open: pull remot eoperatin gswitch for
boot lid :until the boot lid opens. Locking the boot separately
In some countries, you can lock the boot sep-
arately. If you then unlock the vehicle cen-
trally, the boot remains locked and cannot be
opened.
X Close the boot lid.
X Take the emergency key element out of the
key (Y page 74). X
Inser tthe emergency key element into the
boot lid lock as far as the stop.
X Turn the emergency key element clockwise
from position 1to position 2.
X Remove the emergency key element.
X Insert the emergency key element into the
key. Unlocking the boot (emergency key
element)
! The boot lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the boot lid.
If the boot cannot be unlocked with the key
or KEYLESS-GO, use the emergency key ele-
ment.
If you use the emergency key element to
unlock and open the boot lid, the anti-theft
alarm system will be triggered (Y page 68).
X Take the emergency key element out of the
key (Y page 74).
X Insert the emergency key element into the
boot lid lock as far as the stop. Boot

The boot is unlocked.

Important safety notes

WARNING
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
between the side window and the door frame
when aside window is opened. Do not touch
or lean against the side window during the
opening procedure. You could become trap-
ped between the side window and the door
frame as the side window moves down. If
there is arisk of becoming trapped, release
the switch or pull the switch upwards to close
the side window again. G
WARNING
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
as you close aside window. If there is arisk
of becoming trapped, release the switch or
press it again to open the side window again. G
WARNING
Children may injure themselves if they open
or close the side windows. Never leave children unsupervised in the vehi-
cle. Always take the key with you when leaving
the vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for
as
hort time. G
WARNING
Do not leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle, even if they are secured in achild
restraint system. The children could:
R be seriously or even fatally injured on parts
of the vehicle
R be seriously or even fatally injured by pro-
longed exposure to extremely high or
extremely low temperatures
If children open adoor, they could:
R seriously or even fatally injure other people
R get out of the vehicle and injure them-
selves, or be seriously or even fatally
injured by apassing vehicle
Activate the override feature if children are
travelling in the vehicle. They could otherwise
open side windows while the vehicle is in
motion and thereby injure themselves or oth-

If the side window opens again slightly:
X Immediately pullt he corresponding switch
on the door control panel until the side win-
dow is completel yclosed (Y page 82).
X Hold the switch for an additional second.
X If the corresponding side window remains
closed after the button has been released,
the side window has been reset correctly.
If this is not the case, repeatt he steps
above again. Problems with the side windows
Problem: aside window cannot be closed
because it is blocked by objects, e.g.
leaves in th ewindow guide.
X Remove the objects.
X Close the side window.
Problem :aside window cannot be closed
and you cannot see th ecause. G
WARNING
Closing the side windows with increased force
or without the anti-entrapmen tfeature could
lead to serious or even fatal injury. Make sure
that nobody can becom etrapped when clos-
ing the side windows.
If as ide window is obstructed during closing
and reopen sagain slightly:
X Immediately afte rthe window blocks, pull
the corresponding switch again until the
side window has closed.
The side window is closed with increased
force.
If as ide window is obstructed again during
closing and reopens again slightly:
X Immediately after the window blocks, pull
the corresponding switch again until the
side window has closed.
The side window is closed without the anti-
entrapment feature. Soft top (Cabriolet)
Important safety notes
You can open or close the soft top:
R when the vehicle is stationary or
R when driving up to aspeed of 40 km/h.
If there is astrongh ead wind, it may not be
possible to close the soft top fully.Int his
case, reduce speed or stop in order to close
the soft top fully.
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Ben zrecom-
mends that you only open or close the soft
top when the vehicle is stationary. G
WARNING
Only drive with the soft top fully open or
closed.
If the soft top does not open or close fully, the
soft-top hydraulics are depressurised and the
soft top is lowered:
R after about seven minutes if the ignition is
switched on
R immediately if the ignition is switched off
Aw arning tone sounds shortly beforehand.

Loc kthe soft top again before driving on. Oth-
erwise, the unlocked soft top could open dur-
ing the journey and cause you to lose control
of your vehicle. You or other persons could be
injured as aresult.
! Never sit on the soft-top compartment
cover and do not store any heavy objects
on it. You will otherwise damage the soft
top and soft-top compartmentc over of the
vehicle.
! When opening and closing the soft top,
make sure that:
R there is sufficient clearance above it, as
the soft top swings upwards
R the boot separator is closed.
R the boot is only loaded to below the boot

R
the boot separator is not pushe dupby
the load.
R the boot li disclosed.
R no objects ar eonthe soft-top compart-
ment cover

boot and other parts of the vehicle.
i Make sure tha tthe soft top is dry and
clean before closing it. Otherwise, water or
dirt could enter the vehicle interior or boot. Opening and closing with the soft-top
switch
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Make sure nobody can be trapped or injured
by moving parts, such as the soft-top linkage
or soft-top compartmentc over, when opening
or closing the soft top.
Release the soft-top switch in the event of
danger. The soft-top mechanism stops imme-
diately. G
WARNING
If the vehicle speed exceeds 40 km/h, the
soft top stops the opening or closing move-
ment and remains in that position. This could
impair your rear view. At high speeds, the soft
top may be damaged.
Reduce your speed to below 40 km/hors top
the vehicle in accordanc ewith the traffic con-
ditions. Press the soft-top switc hagain in
order to open or clos ethe soft top fully.

Make sure that the boot separator is closed
(Y page 92).
X Close the boot lid. X
Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
X Open the cover on the lower centr econ-
sole. X
To open: pull soft-top switch :until the
entire soft top is stowed away in the boot.
The Top in operation message appears
in the multifunction display.
If, when opening, you drive at speeds above
40 km/h, the opening procedure is stop-
ped and in the multifunction display, you
see the Open/close top completely message. Reduce your speed again to
below 40 km/h and pull the soft-top switch
again, to open the soft top fully.
i The side windows close if you keep on
pulling the soft-top switch.
X To close: press and hold soft-top
switch :until the soft top is fully closed.
The Top in operation message appears
in the multifunction display.
If, when closing, you drive at speeds above
40 km/h, the closing procedure is stopped
and in the multifunction display, you see
the Open/close top completely mes-
sage. Reduce your speed again to below
40 km/h and push the soft-top switch
again, to clos ethe soft top fully.

by movin gparts such as the soft-top linkage
or soft-top compartment cover when opening
or closing the soft top.
If there is arisk of entrapment ,immediately
release the %or& button on the key.
The soft-top mechanism stops immediately.

The key must be close to the driver's door
handle.
X Point the tip of the key at the driver's door
handle.
X To open: press and hold the %button
on the key until the soft top is fully opened.
The Top in operation message appears
in the multifunction display. The seat ven-
tilation is switched on. The rear side win-
dows open.
X To close: press and hold the &button
on the key until the soft top is fully closed.
The Top in operation message appears
in the multifunction display. The soft top
and the side windows close. Closing the soft top manually
If the soft top cannot be closed automatically,
chec kthe following points:
R Is the boot separator engaged
(Y page 92)?
R Are the head restraintsont he rear bench
seats extended?
R Is the boot lid closed?
R Is the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If automatic operation still does not work, the
soft top can be closed manually.
This work must be performed by two persons. i
Closing the soft top manually is acom-
plex, technically demanding process which
requires agreat deal of force. Only close
the soft top manually in extreme emergen-
cies. In these situations, it is better to get
in touch with aqualified specialist work-
shop, e.g. aMercedes-Ben zService
Centre. G
WARNING
Remove wristwatches and any jewellery such
as rings or bracelets .You could otherwise get
caught, injured and damage the vehicle.
Always grip the soft top at the indicated grip-
ping points when closing the soft top man-
ually.Y ou could otherwise be injured.
X Depress the parking brake.
X Open the side windows.
X Lower the head restraint s(automatically
(Y page 103) or manually (Y page 103)).
X Remove the key from the ignition lock.
X Open the boot.
X Take the two straps out of the vehicle tool
kit (Y page 295).
X Take the hex-socket wrench out of the
Owner's Manual walleta nd keepitwith
you. X

in the boot: turn rotary catch :anti-

The soft-top compartment hinges are on the
right-hand and left-hand side in the gap
between the lid of the soft-top compartment
and the boot sealing. X
Shift both levers Dof soft-top compart-
ment hinges Cforwards beyond the
detent position on both sides. X
On both sides, pullt he straps through
behind the soft-top compartment hinges in
the direction of the arrow.
X Route the straps through the created loops. 88

Pull the straps between the soft-top com-
partmen thinge sand the soft-top compart-
ment.
i Do not pull the straps as long as the boot
is open. X
Place straps Eon the cover of the soft-top
compartment.
X Take the hex-socket wrench and the key
out of the boot if necessary.
X Close the boot lid.
i You can only access the boot again once
you have fully closed the soft top manually.
! The boot lid must be closed for the next
steps. The soft top compartmen tcover
could otherwise collide with the boot lid. G
WARNING
You could be injured durin gthe following
steps of opening the soft top manually if you
work alone. Perform the followin gsteps
together with asecond person. X

X Grip the soft-top compartmen twith one
hand as illustrated.
X Use the other hand to support yourself on
the edge of the boot lid as illustrated.
X Move soft-top compartmen tcover Finto
an upright position as far as it will go. Pull
the cover to the rear, applying constant
