4-zone automatic climate control*
Nearly all dust particles, pollutants and
odors are filtered out before outside air en-
ters the passenger compartment through
the air distribution system.
The air conditioning will not engage (no
cooling) if the A/Cmode (
page 227) is

Follow the recommended settings for heat-
ing and cooling given on the following pag-
es. Otherwise the windows could fog up,
impairing visibility and endangering you and
others.
iSevere conditions (e.g. strong air pollu-
tion) may require replacement of the fil-
ter before its scheduled interval. A
clogged filter will reduce the air volume
to the interior.
If the vehicle interior is hot, ventilate
the interior before driving off, see
“Summer opening feature”
(page 234). The climate control will
then adjust the interior temperature to
the set value much faster.
Keep the air intake grille in front of the
windshield free of snow and debris.
Do not obstruct air flow by placing ob-
jects on the air flow-through exhaust
slots below the rear window.
iWhen the climate control system is de-
activated, the outside air supply and
circulation are also deactivated. Only
choose this setting for a short time.
Otherwise the windows could fog up.

Setting the temperature
Use temperature control rocker

ments, preferably starting at 72°F (22°C).
The adjusted temperature appears in the

The climate control will adjust to the set
temperature as fast as possible.Increasing

tive air-recirculation mode
The combination filter reduces pollutants
and unpleasant odors in the outside air.
The pollutant-sensitive air-recirculation
mode automatically switches off the sup-
ply of outside air when pollutants are de-
tected in the air.
iThe air recirculation mode is deactivat-
ed automatically:

after 5 minutes if the outside tem-
perature is below
approximately 41°F (5°C)


after 5 minutes if the air condition-
ing is turned off


after 30 minutes if the outside tem-
perature is above approximately
41°F (5°C)
iPress and hold button, for
approximately 2 seconds. The side
windows and or tilt/sliding sunroof*
(or tilt/sliding panel*) will return to
their previous position. You can release
button, once the opening proce-
dure has begun. The windows and
tilt/sliding sunroof* or tilt/sliding pan-
el* continue opening until they have
reached their previous position.
A window or tilt/sliding sunroof* (or
tilt/sliding panel*) will only return to its
previous position if it has not been
moved to another position using the re-
spective window switch or tilt/sliding
sunroof* (or tilt/sliding panel*) switch
after it was closed with button,.
A window or tilt/sliding sunroof* (or
tilt/sliding panel*) that has been
moved will remain in its current posi-
tion if button, is used to reopen
the remaining windows or tilt/sliding
sunroof* (or tilt/sliding panel*).
iThe pollutant-sensitive air-recirculation
mode is not possible if you have
switched off the air conditioning or if
the temperature falls below 41°F
(5°C).

With the engine switched off, it is possible
to continue to heat or ventilate the interior
for up to 30 minutes. This feature makes
use of the residual heat produced by the
engine.

Rear climate control
The rear climate control is adjusted via the
front climate control panel (
page 217) or

panel.
The rear climate control panel is located in
the rear center console.
Setting the temperature
Use temperature control rocker
switches4 and6 to separately adjust
the air temperature on each side of the
rear passenger compartment.You should raise or lower the temperature
setting in small increments, preferably
starting at 72°F (22°C). The adjusted tem-
perature appears in the display 5. The
rear climate control will adjust to the set
temperature as fast as possible.

Useful features
Power outlet
The power outlet is located in the rear pas-
senger compartment.
Switch on the ignition (
page 36).

Flip up cover and insert electrical plug
(cigarette lighter type).
Heated steering wheel*
The steering wheel heating warms up the
leather area of the steering wheel.
The stalk is on the lower left-hand side of
the steering wheel.

Switch on the ignition (

Turn switch at the tip of stalk in direc-
tion of arrow3.
The steering wheel is heated. Indicator
lamp1 comes on.
iThe power outlet can be used to
accommodate 12V DC electrical ac-
cessories (e.g. air pump, auxiliary
lamps) up to a maximum of 180 W.
An additional power outlet is located on
the left side in the trunk.
iThe steering wheel heating is tempo-
rarily suspended while indicator
lamp1 remains on when

the temperature of the vehicle inte-
rior is above 86°F (30°C)


the temperature of the steering
wheel is above 95°F (35°C)
When these conditions do not apply
anymore, steering wheel heating con-
tinues.

306 OperationDriving instructionsDriving off
Apply the brakes to test them briefly after
driving off. Perform this procedure only
when the road is clear of other traffic.
Warm up the engine smoothly. Do not
place full load on the engine until the oper-
ating temperature has been reached.
When starting off on a slippery surface, do
not allow a drive wheel to spin for an ex-
tended period with the ESP
® switched off.
Doing so may cause serious damage to the
drivetrain which is not covered by the
Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty.
Parking
!Simultaneously depressing the acceler-
ator pedal and applying the brake re-
duces engine performance and causes
premature brake and drivetrain wear.
!Set the parking brake whenever park-
ing or leaving the vehicle. In addition,
move gear selector lever to position P.
When parking on hills, always set the
parking brake and turn front wheel
against road curb.Warning!

Do not park this vehicle in areas where com-
bustible materials such as grass, hay or
leaves can come into contact with the hot
exhaust system, as these materials could be
ignited and cause a vehicle fire.
To reduce the risk of personal injury as a re-
sult of vehicle movement, before turning off
the engine and leaving the vehicle always:

Keep right foot on brake pedal.


Firmly depress parking brake pedal.


Move the gear selector lever to
positionP.


Slowly release brake pedal.


When parked on an incline, turn front
wheel towards the road curb.


Turn the SmartKey in the starter switch
to position0 and remove the SmartKey
from the starter switch, or press
KEYLESS-GO* start/stop button (vehi-
cles with KEYLESS-GO*).


Take the SmartKey or the SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO* with you and lock vehicle
when leaving.
