In poor road and weather conditions, the
trailer stabilisation cannot pr event lur ching of

Always adapt your driving style tosuit
th e cur rent road and weather conditions. When driving with a trailer, ESP
®
can stabilise
yo ur vehicle if the trailer begins toswer vefrom
side toside:
R ESP ®
trailer stabilisation is active abo ve
speeds of 65 km/h.
R Slight swerving is reduced bymeans of a tar-
ge ted, individual brake application on one
side.
R Intheev ent of se vere swerving, the operating
energy output is also reduced and all wheels
are braked.
ESP ®
trailer stabilisation may be impaired or may
not function if:
R The trailer is not connected cor rectly or is not
de tected proper lyby theve hicle. Driving and parking

wheel bolts and nuts
If yo u tighten the wheel bolts or wheel nuts
when theve hicle is raised, the jack could tip. #
Only tighten wheel bolts or wheel nuts

no tes on "Changing a wheel" (/ page 336). #
For saf etyre asons, only use wheel bolts which
ha ve been appr oved byMercedes-Benz and
fo rth e wheel in question. #
Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a diagonal
pattern in the order indicated until they are
/nger-tight. #
Unscr ewand remo vethe centring pin. #
Tighten the last wheel bolt until it is /n ger-
tight. #

incor rect wheel and tyre dimensions
The wheel or tyre size and the tyre type of the
emer gency spa rewheel or spare wheel and
th e wheel tobe replaced may di.er. The emer-
ge ncy spa rewheel or spare wheel can signi/-
cantly impair driving characteristics of the
ve hicle.
To prev ent hazardous situations: #
Drive carefull y. #
Never /t more than one emer gency
spa rewheel or spare wheel that di.ers
in size. #
Only use an emer gency spa rewheel or
spare wheel brie0y. #
Do not deacti vate ESP ®
. #
Have the emer gency spa rewheel or
spare wheel of a di.erent size replaced
at the nearest quali/ed specialist work- shop. The new wheel must ha
vethe cor-
re ct dimensions. %
The emer gency spa rewheel is secured in the
emer gency spa rewheel bag in the load com-
partment.
Obser vethefo llowing no tes on /tting an emer-
ge ncy spa rewheel:
R The maximum permissible speed with an
emer gency spa rewheel /tted is 80 km/h.
R Do not /t the emer gency spa rewheel with
snow chains.
R Replace the emer gency spa rewheel aTer six
ye ars at the latest, rega rdless of wear.
R Use the wheel bolts that are included with the
emer gency spa rewheel.
R Check the tyre pressure of the emer gency
spa rewheel /tted. Cor rect the pressure as
necessar y.
% The speci/ed tyre pressure is stated on the
label of the emer gency spa rewheel. 346
