Risk of injury
The seats can still be adjusted when there
is no key in the ignition lock. For this rea-
son, children should never be left unsuper-
vised in the vehicle. They could become
trapped when adjusting a seat. G
Risk of accident
Only adjust the driver's seat when the vehi-
cle is stationary. You will otherwise be dis-
tracted from the road and traffic conditions
and you could lose control of the vehicle as
a result of the seat moving. This could
cause an accident. G
Risk of injury
Make sure that nobody can become trap-
ped when you adjust the seat.
Observe the notes concerning the airbag
system.
Secure children as recommended; see
"Children in the vehicle" section. !
When you move the seats, make sure that
there are no objects in the footwell or
behind the seats. Otherwise, you could
damage the seats and the objects.
! Make sure that the sun visor is folded up
before setting the backrest angle and head
restraint height. Otherwise, the head
restraint and sun visor could collide when
the head restraint is fully extended.
i If the front door is open, the seats can be
adjusted for up 30 minutes after the igni-
tion has been switched off.
i The rear-compartment head restraints
can be removed (Y page 62).

X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.

Make sure that the cup
holder* (Y page 138) on the centre con-
sole is folded down. Otherwise, you could
damage the seat or the cup holder*. Controls

Upper back support: use button3to
adjust the upper back support to the
desired position.
X Backrest side bolsters: use button4to
adjust the backrest side bolsters to the
desired position. Folding the front seats forward (easy-
entry feature of short-wheelbase sta-
tion wagon and cabriolet)
The easy-entry feature makes it easier for
passengers to get in and out of the rear com-
partment. 1

Risk of injury
Make sure that nobody can become trap-
ped when moving the seat. If there is a risk
of someone becoming trapped, press the
seat adjustment switch on the door.
! Make sure that there are no objects in the
footwell or behind the seats when adjusting
the seats. You could otherwise damage the
seats and the objects.
Folding the seat forward X
Pull seat release lever 1in the direction of
the arrow.
The easy-entry feature is activated:
R the seat cushion and head restraint move
down.
R the seat moves forwards or back,
depending on the starting position.
R backrest 2tilts forwards.
R On the driver's side, the steering wheel
moves upwards and towards the dash-
board.
X Fold backrest 2forwards in the direction
of the arrow.
! Make sure that you only fold backrest
2 forwards when the easy-entry proce- dure is complete. Otherwise, you may dam-
age the multi-contour seat* switch and the
centre console.
Folding the seat back X
Push backrest 2back until the seat and
backrest engage.
The seat cushion, head restraint, backrest
and steering wheel (driver's side) move
back to their original positions.
For reasons of safety, the seat only moves
to its original position when the position
was in front of the easy-entry position.
i Store the seat position using
(Y page 70).
i If your seat position was behind the easy-
entry position, you can return to this posi-
tion by pressing one of the memory but-
tons. Controls

Interrupting the easy-entry feature
To interrupt the easy-entry feature you can do
the following:
X press one of the seat setting buttons
(Y page 60).
X press the memory button (Y page 70).
X move the steering wheel adjustment lever
(Y page 66). Seat ventilation
The three blue indicator lamps in the button
indicate the ventilation level you have selec-
ted. 1
Seat ventilation
X Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X To switch on: press button1repeatedly
until the required ventilation level is set.
i If you open the side windows and the slid-
ing/tilting sunroof with the key
(Y page 85), the seat ventilation of the
driver's seat automatically switches to the
highest level.
X To switch off: press button1repeatedly
until all indicator lamps go out. i
If the battery voltage is too low, the seat
ventilation may switch off. Seat heating
The red indicator lamps in the button indicate
the heating level you have selected.
i If the battery voltage is too low, the seat
heating may switch off.
X Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.

switch. Otherwise, the seat could be dam-
aged. Storing a parking position
To make it easier to park, you can store the
front-passenger side exterior mirror position
in such a way that you can see the rear wheel
on that side as soon as you engage reverse
gear.
Using the storage position switches on the
driver's side, you can store three parking
positions per key.

X Make sure that the vehicle is stationary and
that the key is in position 1or 2in the igni-
tion lock.
X Press button 3for the exterior mirror on
the front-passenger side.
X Use adjustment button 1to adjust the
exterior mirror to a position which allows
you to see the rear wheel and the kerb.
X Press memory button 4and adjustment
button 1within three seconds.
The parking position is stored if the exterior
mirror does not move.
i If the mirror moves out of position, repeat
the steps.
Calling up the parking position Using the storage position switches on the
driver's side, you can store three parking
positions per key. Seat belts
Wearing seat belts
Seat belts are the most effective means of
restraining the movement of vehicle occu-
pants in the event of an accident. This
reduces the risk of vehicle occupants coming
into contact with the vehicle interior. G
Risk of injury
A seat belt which is not worn correctly, or
which has not been engaged in the seat belt
buckle correctly, cannot perform its inten-
ded protective function. Under certain cir-
cumstances this could cause severe or
even fatal injuries.
Make sure that all occupants – in particular,
pregnant women – wear their seat belt cor-
rectly at all times.
R The seat belt must pass closely over your
body and must not be twisted. You
should therefore avoid wearing bulky
clothing (e.g. a winter coat). The shoulder
belt section must be routed across the
middle of your shoulder – on no account
across your neck or under your arm – and
pulled tight against your upper body. The
lap belt must always pass across your lap
as low down as possible, i.e. over your Controls

To fasten the seat belt: remove belt
tongues 7from retainer 1.
X Pull the seat belt smoothly from the belt
reel.
X Engage fixed belt tongue 4in buckle 2.
X Pull removable belt tongue 7and route
the seat belt across your body.
X Engage removable belt tongue 7in
buckle 5.
X If necessary, pull upwards on the shoulder
section of the seat belt to tighten the belt
across your body.
X To release the seat belt: press release
button 6on belt buckle 5.
X Open belt buckle 2with a screwdriver
3 or similar.
X Let the seat belt roll up to the stop.
X Insert both belt tongues into retainer 1,
one on top of the other. Driver seat belt warning
The < seat belt warning lamp in the instru-
ment cluster reminds you that all occupants
should fasten their seat belts. The belt warning lamp may light up continuously
or it may flash. Additionally, there may be a
warning tone.
The < seat belt warning lamp goes out and
the warning tone ceases when the driver's
seat belt is fastened.
i Further information about the belt warning lamp (Y page 212). Belt height adjustment
You can adjust the seat belt height on the fol-
lowing seats:
R driver's seat
R front-passenger seat
R outer rear seats
Adjust the belt to a height that allows it to be
routed across the middle of your shoulder. 1
Release catch
X To raise: slide the belt sash guide upwards.
The belt sash guide engages in various posi-
tions.
X To lower: draw release button 1forwards
and hold it.
X Slide the belt sash guide downwards.
X Let go of release button 1and make sure
that the belt sash guide has engaged. Controls
