The key centrally locks/unlocks:
R the doors
R the rear door
R the fuel filler flap
X To unlock centrally: press the%button.
If you do not open the vehicle within approx-
imately 40 seconds of unlocking:
R the vehicle locks again
R protection against theft is reactivated
X To lock centrally: press the&button.
i If the
& button is pressed when the driv-
er's door is open, the rear side door on the
driver's side is not locked either.
During unlocking, the turn signals flash once.
During locking, they flash three times.
You can also set an audibl esignal to confirm
that the vehicle has been locked. The audible
signal can be activated or deactivated using the
on-board computer (Y page 139).
Only when all the components have been locked is the visual or audibl elockingc onfirmation
issued.
When the surround lighting is activated via the
on-board computer, it lights up when it is dark
after the vehicle is unlocked with the key
(Y page 138). Changing the settings of the locking
system
You can change the settings of the lockin gsys-
tem. This mean sthato nlyt he driver' sdoor and
th ef uel fille rflap are unlocked when th evehicle
is unlocked. This is useful if you frequently travel
alone.
X To change th esetting: pressand hold down
the % and& buttons simultaneously
for about six seconds until th ebattery indica-
to rlamp flashes twice (Y page 59).
If th esettin goft helockin gsystem is changed
within th esignal range of th evehicle ,pressing
the & or% button:
R locks or
R unlock sthe vehicle The key now func
tions as follows:
X To unlock the driver's door and fuel filler
flap:
press the %button once.
X To unlock centrally: press the%button
twice.
X To lock centrally: press the&button.
X To restor ethe factory settings: press and
hold down the %and& button ssimul-
taneously for approximately six seconds until the battery check lamp flashes twice
(Y page 59). Emergency key element

If you use the emergency key element to unlock
and open the driver's door, the anti-theft alarm
system willbet riggered. Switch off the alarm
(Y page 56).
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel fillerf lap willnot be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlockt he fuel fillerf lap:insert the key
into the ignition lock.
Removing the emergency key element X
Push releasec atch:in the direction of the
arrow and, at the same time, remove emer-
gency key element ;from the key.

WARNING
When the double locks are activated, the
doors can no longer be opened from the
inside. People in the vehicl ecan no longer get
out, e.g. in hazardous situations. There is a
risk of injury.
Therefore, do not leave any people unsuper-
vised in the vehicle, particularl ychildren, eld-
erly people or people in need of special assis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
people are in the vehicle. If the vehicle has been locked from the outside,
the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle .You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (see Digital Owner's Manual).
The doors can then be opened from the inside
after the vehicle has been locked from the out-
side. The anti-theft alarm system is triggered if
the door is opened from the inside. Switch off
the alarm (Y page 56). Unlockinga

from the inside
You can open adoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. You can only open the rear doors from inside the vehicle if they are not secured by the child-proof lock s(Ypage 51). If
the vehicle has previously been locked with the
key, openin gadoor from the inside will trigger
the anti-theft alarm system .Switc hoff the alarm
(Y page 56). :

door is open when the engine is running, par- ticularly if the vehicl eismoving, exhaust

Turn off the engine before opening the rear
door. Never drive with the rear door open. G
WARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secure dor
not secure dsufficiently ,they coul dslip,tip
over or be flung around and thereby hit vehicle
occupants. There is arisk of injury ,especially
when braking or abruptly changing directions.
Always store objects so that they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey. G

The tailgat

sufficient clearance.
Do not leave the key in the luggage compart-

Important safety notes

WARNING
While opening and closing the sliding sunroof, body parts in close proximity could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing pro- cedures.
If somebody become strapped:
R release the switch immediately, or
R during automatic operation, press the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure willbes top-
ped. G
WARNING
If children operate the sliding sunroof they
coul dbecome trapped, particularl yifthey are
left unsupervised. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alwayst ake the key
with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave
children unattended in the vehicle.
! Only open the panorama sliding sunroof if it
is free of snow and ice. Otherwise, malfunc-
tions may occur.
Do not allow anything to protrud efrom the
sliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seal scouldbe
damaged.
Resonance noises can occur in addition to the
usual airflow noises when the sliding sunroof is
open. They are caused by minor pressure fluc-
tuations in the vehicl einterior. Change the posi-
tion of the sliding sunroof or open aside window
slightly to reduce or eliminate these noises. Opening and closing the sliding sun-

located on the left-hand side of the luggage

You could be severely or even fatally injured when closing the sliding sunroof with increased
closing force or if the anti-entrapment feature is deactivated .Make sure that nobody can become

Correct driver's seat position
:

Adjusting the seats (Y page 69)
Whe nadjusting the seat, make sure that:

R youh avem ovedthe backrest to an almost
vertical position
R youc an depress the pedal sproperly
X Check whethe rthe hea drestraint is adjusted
correctly (Y page 69).
Whe ndoing so, ensure that yo uhavea djusted
the hea drestraint so that the back of your
hea diss upported at ey elev el by the centre of
the hea drestraint.
X Observe the safety guideline sonsteering
wheel adjustment (Y page 67).
X Make sure that steering wheel :is adjusted
correctly.
Adjusting the steering wheel electrically
(Y page 72). Whe
nadjustin gthe steerin gwheel, make sure
that:
R you can hold the steerin gwheel with your
arms slightly bent
R you can move your legs freely
R you can see all the displays in the instrument
cluster clearly
X Observe the safety guidelines for seat belts
(Y page 32).
X Check whether you have fastened seat
belt ;properly (Y page 34).
The seat belt should:
R fit snugly across your body
R be routed across the middle of your shoulder
R be routed across your hips in the pelvic area
X Befor estarting off, adjust the rear-view mirror
and the exterior mirrors so that you have a
good view of road and traffic conditions
