sound. The coolant level is too low. The coolant is too hot and the engine
is no longer being cooled sufficiently.
X
Stop as soon as possible and allow the engine and the coolant
to cool down.
X Check the coolant level (Y page 363). Observe the warning
notes as you do so and top up the coolant if necessary. If the coolant level is correct
,the radiator fa nmay be faulty. The
coolant is too hot and the engine is no longer being cooled suffi-
ciently.
X At coolant temperatures under 120 †, drive on to the nearest
qualified specialis tworkshop, e.g. to aMercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
X Avoid heavy loads on the engine as you do so, e.g. driving in
mountainous terrai nand stop-start traffic. Automatic transmission

Always pay attention to traffic conditions and
your surroundings. Otherwise, you may fail to
recognise dangers in time, cause an accident
and injure yoursel fand others. Active Blind Spo
tAssist monitor sthe area up
to 3. 0mbehind your vehicle and directly next
to your vehicle, as shown in the diagram. For
this purpose, Active Blin dSpot Assist uses
rada rsensors in the rear bumper.
If the lanes are narrow, vehicles driving in the
lane beyond the lane next to your vehicle may
be indicated, especially if the vehicles are not
driving in the middle of their lane. This may
be the case if there are vehicles at the inner
edge of your lane.
Due to the nature of the system:
R warnings may be issued in error when driv-
ing close to crash barriers or similar solid
lane borders.
R warnings may be inter rupted when driving
alongside particularly long vehicles, for
example lorries, for aprolonged time.
Th eA ctive Blind Spo tAssist radar sensor sare
integ rated into the front and rear bumpers
and behind acover in the radiator grille. Make
sure that the bumpers and the cover in the
radiator grille ar efree of dirt, ice or slush. The rea
rsensors must not be covered, e.g. by
bicycle racks or overhanging loads. Following
as ever eimpact or in th eevent of damag eto
the bumpers, have the function of the radar
sensors checked at aqualified specialist
workshop. Active Blind Spot Assis tmay oth-
erwise no longer work properly.
Indicator and warning display G
WARNING
Active Blind Spot Assist is not active at speeds
below 30 km/h. The indicator lamps in the
exterior mirrors are yellow .Vehicles in the
moni toring range are then not indicated.
Always pay attention to traffic conditions and
your surroundings. Otherwise, you may fail to
recognise dangers in time and cause an acci-
dent and injure yourself and othe rs. :
Yellow indicator lamp/red warning lamp
If Active Blind Spot Assist is switched on,
indicator lamps :in the exterior mirror slight
up yellow up to aspeed of 30 km/h. At
speeds above 30 km/h, the indicator lamp
goes out and Activ eBlind Spot Assist is
operational.
If av ehicle is detected within the monitoring
range of Blin dSpot Assist at speeds above
approximately 30 km/ h,warning lamp :on
the corresponding side lights up red. This
warning always occurs when avehicle enters
th eb linds pot monitorin grange fro mbehind
or from the side. When you over take avehicle,
the warning only occu rsif the difference in

WARNING
The radiator fa nbetween the radiator and the
engine can star tautomatically, even if the key
has been removed from the ignition lock. For
this reason, you must not reach into the fan
rotation area. You could otherwis ebeinjured.
Vehicles with apetrol engine: The elec-
tronic ignition system uses high voltage. For
this reason ,you must never touc hignition
system component s(ignition coil, ignition
cables, spark plug connectors or test socket)
while:
R the engine is running
R the engine is being started
R the ignition is switched on and the engine
is being cranked by hand
You could otherwise suffer an electric shock
and be seriously or even fatally injured.
Vehicles with adiesel engine: The elec-
tronic injection control uses high voltage. For
this reason ,you must never touc hinjection
system components while:
R the engi neis running
R the engin eisbeing started
R the ignition is switched on

The winds creen wipers and wiper linkage
could be set in motion.
When the bonnet is open, you or others could
be injured by the wiper linkage.
Make sure that the windscreen wipers are
switched off .Remov ethe key or make sure
that no ignition position has been selected
with KEYLESS-GO. All indi cator lamps must be
off in the instrumen tpanel.
! Make sure that the windscreen wipers are
not folded away from the windscreen. Oth- er
wise ,you could damage the windscreen
wipers or the bonnet. X
Make sure tha tthe windscreen wiper sare

X Pull release lever :on th ebonnet.

Reac hinto the gap ,pull bonnet catch han-

erly.
If the bonnet can be raised slightly, it is not
properly engaged. Open it again and close

the radiator .Donot use therma lmats, insect
protection covers or anything similar. Doing
so can cause the Onboard Diagnostics Sys-
tem to display inaccurat evalues. Some of
these values are legally required and must

the vehicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engine speeds.

be installed at adifferent location.
When checking the oil level:
R park the vehicle on alevel surface.
R the engine should be switched off for
approximately fiv eminutes if the engine is
at normal operating tempera ture.
R if the engine is not at normal operating
tempera ture,e.g. if the engine was only
started briefly, wait about 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement. Checkin

tube.

= or below, add 1. 0litre of engine oil.
