Function When the interior motion sensor is primed, a
visual and audible alarm is triggered if move-
ment is detected in the vehicle interior

can occur if someon ereaches into the vehicle
interior, for example.
Activating X
Make sure that:
R
the side windows are closed.
R the hinged side windows are closed.
R the sliding sunroof/panorama sliding
sunroof is closed.
R there are no objects, e.g. mascots, hang-
ing on the rear-view mirror or on the grab
handles on the roof trim.
This will prevent false alarms.

When adjusting the seat, mak esure that:
R you are as far away from the driver' sairbag
as possible.
R you are sitting in anorma lupright position.
R you can faste nthe seat belt properly.
R you hav emoved the backrest to an almost
vertical position. R
you have set the seat angle so that your
thighs ar egently supported.
R you can depress the pedals properly.
X Check whether the head restraint is adjus-
ted properly.
When doing so, mak esure that you have
adjusted the head restraint so that the back
of your head is supported at eye level by
the centre of the head restraint.
X Observe the safety guidelines on steering
wheel adjustment (Y page 110).
X Make sure that steering wheel :is adjus-
ted properly.

When adjusting the steering wheel ,make
sure that:
R you can hold the steering wheel with your
arms slightly bent.
R you can move your legs freely.

X Check whether you have fastened seat
belt ;properly (Y page 47).
The seat belt should:
R fit snugly across your body
R be routed across the middle of your shoul-
der
R be routed in your pelvic area across the hip
joints

ror and the exterior mirrors in such away
that you have agood view of roa dand traf-
fic conditions (Y page112).

WARNING
Occupants sh ouldonly travel sitting on seats
tha thave the head restraint sfitted. This
reduces the risk of injury to the occupant in
the even tofanaccident. X
To remove: pullthe head restraint up as

X Press release catch :and pull the head
restraint out of the guides.
X To refit: insertthe head restraint so that
the notches on the bar ar eonthe leftwhen
viewed in the direction of travel.
X Push the head restraint down until you hear

WARNING
If the seat and backrest are not engaged, they
can fold forwards, e.g. in the even tofsudden
braking or an accident.
R This will cause the vehicle occupants to be
forced int othe seat belt by aseat or back-
res twhich is not engaged. The seat belt can no longer offer the intended level of pro-
tec
tion and can even cause injuries.
R Ac hild restraint system would no longer be
anchored or positioned correc tlya nd would
not be able to perform its require dfunction.
R Objects or loads in the load compartment
may not be restrained by the backrests.
This pose sanincrease drisk of injury.
Always make sure that the seat and backrest
are engaged as described:
R before travelling with apassenger on aseat
with the EASY-ENTRY/EXI Tfeature
R after you have adjusted the seat
R after the EASY-ENTRY/EXI Tfeatur ehas
been used
R after the load compartmen tenlargement
has bee nfolded forwards
Adjusting th ebackrest angle (2nd row

uc an adjust the angle of the backrests in
the second row of seats. There are ten detent
positions.
X Pull the left or right release lever ;
upwards in the direction of the arrow until
the relevant backrest :is fully released.
X Pull the backrest :forwards in the direc-
tion of the arrow and allow it to engage.
X To ensure that the backrest has engaged,
lean firmly against backrest :.104

compartment could, otherwise, be dam-
aged.
Make sure that the seats in the thir drow
ar ee mpty and not blocked before folding
them down.
Th et hir dr ow of seats consist softwo electri-
cally foldable individual seats, which can be
lowered into the luggage compartment.
If the seat is not correctly locked in position,
the display message: 3rds eat row, right Not locked appears in th
emultifunc-
tion display.
The switches for folding the left or right-hand
seats up and down are marked: Lfor the left-
hand seat when viewed in the direction of
travel, Rfor the right-hand seat when viewed
in the direction of travel.
Folding forwards/back in the rear com-
partment Example:

If there are objects underneath the seat,
the seat can no longer be folded up or down
fully. The seat could be damaged.
Only drive with the panel completely fitted. Seats

Crash-responsive EASY-EXIT fea tureIf th
ecrash-resp onsive EASY-EXIT feature is
trig gere dinana ccident,the steeri ngcolu mn
will mov eupwards when the driv er'sdoor is
opened. This occurs irrespective of the posi-
tion of the key in the ignition lock .This makes
it easier to exit the vehicle and rescue the
occupants.
The crash-responsive EASY-EXIT featur eis
only operational if the EASY-EXIT/ENTRY fea-
tur eisa ctivate dinthe on-boar dcomputer

WARNING
The exterior mirrors reduce the size of the
image. Objects are actually close rthan they
appear. You coul dmisjudge the distance from
vehicles drivin gbehind and cause an acci-
dent, e.g. when changing lane. For this rea-
son, mak esure of the actual distance from the
vehicle driving behind by glancing over your
shoulder. 112

X Press button :for the left-hand exterior
mirror or button ;for the right-hand exte-
rior mirror.
The indicator lam pint he corresponding
button lights up in red.
The indicator lam pgoes out again after
some time. You can adjust the selected
mirror using adjustment button =as long
as the indicator lam pislit.
X Press adjustment button =up, down, or
to the left or right until you have adjusted
the exterior mirror to the correct position.
You should have agood overview of traffic
conditions.
The convex exterior mirror sprovide alarger
field of vision.
The exterior mirrors are automatically heated
if the rear window heating is switched on and
the outside temperature is low.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out

Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.

Both exterior mirrors fold in or out.
i Make sure that the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while driving. They
could otherwise vibrate. Setting the exterior mirrors If the battery has been disconnected or com-
pletely discharged

be reset .The exterior mirrors will otherwise
not fol dinwhen you selec tthe "Fold in mir-
ror sw hen locking" func tion in the on-board

is activated in the on-board computer:

then open the driver's or front-passenger

X Vehicles without electrically folding
exterior mirrors: move the exterior mirror
into the correct position manually.
X Vehicles with electrically folding exte-
rior mirrors: press and hold button for
folding the mirrors :(Ypage 113 )until you
hea rac lick and then the mirror engage in
position.
The mirror housing is engaged again and
you can adjust the exterior mirrors as usual

If inciden tlight fro mheadlamps is prevented
from striking the sensor in the rear-view mir-
ror ,for instance, by luggage piled too high in
the vehicle, the mirror's automatic anti-dazzle
fun ction will not operate.
Incident light could then blind you. This may
distrac tyou from the traffic condition sand,
as aresult, you may cause an accident.
The rear-view mirror and the exterior mirror
on the driver' sside automatically go int oanti-
dazzle mode if the following conditions are
met simultaneously:
R the ignition is switched on and
R incide ntlight from headlamps strikes the
sensor in the rear-view mirror.
The mirror sdonot go int oanti-dazzle mode if
reverse gea risengaged or if the interior light-
ing is switched on. Parking position for the exterior mir-

exterior mirror to aposition that allows you
to see the rea rwheel and the kerb.
The parkin gposition is stored.
i If you shift the transmission to anot her
po sition ,the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side retur nsto the driving posi-
tion.
