Cleaning the decorative film
!The following may have an effect on theservice life and color of decorative film:

!Do not use any types of polish on mattdecorative film. Polishing surfaces coveredwith film gives it a shiny finish.
!Do not treat matt or structured decorativefilm with wax. This may lead to marks thatcannot be removed.
Observe the notes in the section on the careand treatment of matte paintwork(Ypage 280), these notes also apply to mattedecorative film.
To clean, use plenty of water and a mild clean-ing agent without additional or abrasive prod-ucts, e.g. use a car shampoo approved forMercedes-Benz.
XDry vehicles covered with film using a soft,absorbent cloth after every wash.Water marks could otherwise form.
Scratches, corrosive deposits, areas affectedby corrosion and damage caused by inade-quate care cannot always be completelyrepaired. In such cases, visit a qualified spe-cialist workshop.
XRemove dirt immediately, where possible,while avoiding rubbing too hard.The decorative film may be irreparably dam-aged.
XSoak insect remains with insect removerand rinse off the treated areas afterwards.
XSoak bird droppings with water and rinse offthe treated areas afterwards.
The Paint Cleaner cleaning product, which hasbeen approved and recommended byMercedes-Benz, should be used when dirt has
penetrated the decorative film surface or thedecorative film has become dull.
The manufacturer can provide you with infor-mation on special care and cleaning products.
Laminated surfaces may exhibit optical differ-ences to surfaces which were not protected bya decorative film when the decorative film isremoved.
iHave work or repairs on decorative filmcarried out at a qualified specialist work-shop. Mercedes-Benz recommends that youuse an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center forthis purpose.
Cleaning the vehicle parts
Cleaning the wheels
GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle (dirt
blasters) can cause invisible exterior dam-
age to the tires or chassis components.
Components damaged in this way may fail
unexpectedly. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use power washers with circular jet
nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have damaged
tires or chassis components replaced imme-
diately.
!Do not use acidic wheel cleaning productsto remove brake dust. This could damagewheel bolts and brake components.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. The vehicle canthen be parked for a long period of time.
Cleaning the windows
GWARNING

Always switch off the windshield wipers and

!Only fold the windshield wipers away fromthe windshield when vertical. Otherwise, youwill damage the hood.
!Do not use dry cloths, abrasive products,solvents or cleaning agents containing sol-vents to clean the inside of the windows. Donot touch the insides of the windows withhard objects, e.g. an ice scraper or ring.There is otherwise a risk of damaging thewindows.
!Clean the water drainage channels of thewindshield and the rear window at regularintervals. Deposits such as leaves, petalsand pollen may under certain circumstancesprevent water from draining away. This canlead to corrosion damage and damage toelectronic components.
XClean the inside and outside of the windowswith a damp cloth and a cleaning productthat is recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning wiper blades
GWARNING

!Hold the wiper arm securely when foldingback. The windshield could be damaged ifthe wiper arm smacks against it suddenly.
XFold the windshield wiper arms away fromthe windshield.
XCarefully clean the wiper blades with adamp cloth.
XFold the windshield wiper arms back againbefore switching on the ignition.
Cleaning the exterior lighting
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Caustic, irritant or otherwise unsuitablecleaning agents or cleaning cloths couldscratch or damage the exterior lighting plas-tic lenses.
XClean the plastic lenses of the exterior lightswith a wet sponge and a mild cleaningagent, e.g. Mercedes-Benz car shampoo orcleaning cloths.
Cleaning the mirror turn signals
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Unsuitable cleaning agents or cleaningcloths could scratch or damage the plasticlenses of the mirror turn signals.
XClean the plastic lenses of the mirror turnsignals in the exterior mirror housing using awet sponge and mild cleaning agent, e.g.Mercedes-Benz car shampoo or cleaningcloths.
Cleaning the sensors
!If you clean the sensors with a powerwasher, make sure that you keep a distanceof at least 11.8 in (30 cm) between the vehi-cle and the power washer nozzle. Informa-tion about the correct distance is availablefrom the equipment manufacturer.

Cleaning the rear view camera
!Do not clean the camera lens and the areaaround the rear view camera with a powerwasher.
XMake sure that the vehicle is at a standstilland the SmartKey is in positionHin theignition lock.
XOpen the camera cover for cleaning via themultimedia system (see Digital Operator'sManual).
XTo clean the rear view camera:use clearwater and a soft cloth to clean cameralensC.
Cleaning the exhaust pipes
GWARNING
The exhaust tail pipe and tail pipe trim can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could
burn yourself. There is a risk of burns.
Always be particularly careful and supervise
children closely around the exhaust pipe and
the exhaust pipe trims. Allow these compo-
nents to cool down before touching them.
!Do not clean the exhaust pipe with acid-based cleaning agents, such as bathroomcleaner or wheel cleaner.
!Mercedes‑AMG vehicles with black tail-pipes: black chrome trims must not be pol-ished with a chrome polish as this will causethem to lose their black shine. For optimalcare, the faceplates should be rubbed with alightly oiled cloth after every car wash. Com-mercially available engine oils and care oilsare suitable for use.
For heavier soiling, you can apply a finepaintwork polish with a microfiber cloth.Remove the excess polish residue after pol-ishing.
Impurities combined with the effects of roadgrit and corrosive environmental factors maycause flash rust to form on the surface. Youcan restore the original shine of the exhaustpipe by cleaning it regularly, especially in win-ter and after washing.
XClean the exhaust pipe with a care producttested and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Interior care
Cleaning the display
!For cleaning, do not use any of the follow-ing:
Ralcohol-based thinner or gasoline
Rabrasive cleaning agents
Rcommercially-available household clean-ing agents
These may damage the display surface. Donot put pressure on the display surface

XBefore cleaning the display, make sure thatit is switched off and has cooled down.
XClean the display surface using a commer-cially available microfiber cloth andTFT/LCD display cleaner.
XDry the display surface using a dry micro-fiber cloth.
Cleaning the plastic trim
GWARNING
Care products and cleaning agents contain-
ing solvents cause surfaces in the cockpit to
become porous. As a result, plastic parts
may come loose in the event of air bag
deployment. There is a risk of injury.
Do not use any care products and cleaning
agents to clean the cockpit.
!Never attach the following to plastic surfa-ces:
Rstickers
Rfilms
Rperfume oil container or similar
You could otherwise damage the plastic.
!Do not allow cosmetics, insect repellent orsunscreen to come into contact with theplastic trim. This maintains the high-qualitylook of the surfaces.
XWipe the plastic trim with a damp, lint-freecloth, e.g. a microfiber cloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.The surface may change color temporarily.Wait until the surface is dry again.
Cleaning the steering wheel and gear
or selector lever
XThoroughly wipe with a damp cloth or useleather care agents that have been recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Cleaning genuine wood and trim ele-
ments
!Do not use solvent-based cleaning agentssuch as tar remover, wheel cleaners, pol-ishes or waxes. There is otherwise a risk ofdamaging the surface.
!Do not use chrome polish on trim pieces.The trim pieces have a chrome look but aremostly made of anodized aluminum and canlose their shine if chrome polish is used.Use a damp, lint-free cloth instead whencleaning the trim pieces.
If the chrome-plated trim pieces are verydirty, you can use a chrome polish. If youare unsure as to whether the trim pieces arechrome-plated or not, consult an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.
XWipe the wooden trim and trim pieces witha damp, lint-free cloth, e.g. a microfibercloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning the seat covers
General notes
!Do not use a microfiber cloth to clean cov-ers made out of real leather, artificial leatheror DINAMICA. If used often, these can dam-age the cover.
Note that regular care is essential to ensurethat the appearance and comfort of the coversis retained over time.
Genuine leather seat covers
!To retain the natural appearance of theleather, observe the following cleaninginstructions:
RClean genuine leather covers carefullywith a damp cloth and then wipe the cov-ers down with a dry cloth.
RMake sure that the leather does notbecome soaked. It may otherwise becomerough and cracked.
ROnly use leather care agents that havebeen tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. You can obtain these from a quali-fied specialist workshop.
Leather is a natural product.

It exhibits natural surface characteristics, forexample:

These are characteristics of leather and notmaterial defects.
Seat covers of other materials
!Observe the following when cleaning:
Rclean artificial leather covers with a clothmoistened with a solution containing 1%detergent (e.g. dish washing liquid).
Rclean cloth covers with a microfiber clothmoistened with a solution containing 1%detergent (e.g. dish washing liquid). Rubcarefully and always wipe entire seat sec-tions to avoid leaving visible lines. Leavethe seat to dry afterwards. Cleaningresults depend on the type of dirt andhow long it has been there.
Rclean DINAMICA covers with a dampcloth. Make sure that you wipe entire seatsections to avoid leaving visible lines.
Cleaning the seat belts
GWARNING
Seat belts can become severely weakened if
bleached or dyed. This could cause the seat
belts to tear or fail, for instance, in the event
of an accident. This poses an increased risk
of injury or fatal injury.
Never bleach or dye the seat belts.
!Do not clean the seat belts using chemicalcleaning agents. Do not dry the seat beltsby heating at temperatures above 176 ‡(80 †) or in direct sunlight.
XUse clean, lukewarm water and soap solu-tion.
Cleaning the headliner and carpets
XHeadliner:if it is very dirty, use a soft brushor dry shampoo.
XCarpets:use the carpet and textile cleaningagents recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.

XSwitch off the engine.
XVehicles without KEYLESS-GO:removethe SmartKey from the ignition lock.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO start-func-tion or KEYLESS-GO:open the driver'sdoor.The vehicle electronics are now in positionZ. This is the same as the SmartKey havingbeen removed.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO start-func-tion or KEYLESS-GO:remove the Start/Stop button from the ignition lock(Ypage 125).
XMake sure that the engine cannot be startedvia your smartphone (Ypage 126).
XMake sure that the passengers are notendangered as they do so. Make sure thatno one is near the danger area while awheel is being changed. Anyone who is notdirectly assisting in the wheel changeshould, for example, stand behind the bar-rier.
XGet out of the vehicle. Pay attention to traf-fic conditions when doing so.
XClose the driver's door.
MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
properties)
General notes
With MOExtended tires (tires with run flatcharacteristics), you can continue to drive yourvehicle even if there is a total loss of pressurein one or more tires. The affected tire must notshow any clearly visible damage.
You can recognize an MOExtended tire by theMOExtended marking which appears on thesidewall of the tire. You will find this markingnext to the tire size designation, the load-bear-ing capacity and the speed index(Ypage 320).
MOExtended tires may be used only in con-junction with an activated tire pressure losswarning system (Canada only) or tire pressuremonitor (USA only).
If a pressure loss warning messageappears in the multifunction display:
Robserve the instructions in the display mes-sages (Ypage 223).
Rcheck the tire for damage
Rif driving on, observe the following notes
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis approximately 50 miles (80 km) when thevehicle is partially laden. When the vehicle isfully laden it is approximately 19 miles(30 km).
In addition to the vehicle load, the driving dis-tance possible depends upon:
RVehicle speed
RRoad condition
ROutside temperature
The driving distance possible in run-flat modemay be reduced by extreme driving conditionsor maneuvers, or it can be increased through amoderate style of driving.
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis counted from the moment the tire pressureloss warning appears in the multifunction dis-play.
You must not exceed the maximum permissi-ble speed for limp-home mode of 50 mph(80 km/h).
When replacing one or all tires, please observethe following specifications for your vehicle'stires:

RThe "MOExtended" marking
If a tire has gone flat and cannot be replacedwith an MOExtended tire, a standard tire maybe used as a temporary measure. Make surethat you use the proper size and type (summeror winter tire).
Vehicles equipped with MOExtended tires arenot equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory.It is therefore recommended that you addition-ally equip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if youmount tires that do not feature run-flat charac-teristics, e.g. winter tires. A TIREFIT kit may beobtained from a qualified specialist workshop.

Important safety notes
GWARNING
When you drive in emergency mode, the
handling characteristics are impaired. e.g.
when cornering, when accelerating strongly
and when braking. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
Do not exceed the maximum specified
speed. Avoid any abrupt steering and driving
maneuvers as well as driving over obstacles
(curbs, pot holes, off-road). This applies, in
particular, to a loaded vehicle.
Stop driving in emergency mode if you
notice:

After driving in emergency mode, have the
rims checked by a qualified specialist work-
shop with regard to their further use. The
defective tire must be replaced in every
case.
TIREFIT kit
Important safety notes
TIREFIT is a tire sealant.
For USA only:You can use TIREFIT to sealpunctures of up to 0.16 in (4 mm), particularlythose in the tire tread. You can use TIREFIT atoutside temperatures down to

Tire pressure not reached
If a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) hasnot been attained after five minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.
Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.
XUSA only:very slowly drive the vehicle for-wards or reverse approximately 30 ft(10m).
XPump upthe tire again.
After a maximum of five minutes the tirepressure must be at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi).
GWARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after the specified time, the tire is too badly
damaged. The tire sealant cannot repair the
tire in this instance. Damaged tires and a
tire pressure that is too low can significantly
impair the vehicle's braking and driving
characteristics. There is a risk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified
specialist workshop.
Tire pressure reached
GWARNING
A tire temporarily sealed with tire sealant
impairs the vehicle's driving characteristics
and is not suitable for driving at higher
speeds. There is a risk of an accident.
Adapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully. Do not exceed the maximum
permissible speed for a tire sealed with tire
sealant.
USA only:The maximum permissible speedfor a tire sealed with tire sealant is 50 mph(80 km/h). The upper part of the TIREFITsticker must be affixed to the instrument clus-ter in the driver's field of vision.
If a tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi)has been attained after five minutes:
XSwitch off the tire inflation compressor.
XUnscrew the filler hose from the valve of thefaulty tire.Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.

driving characteristics. There is a risk of

specialist workshop.

Battery (vehicle)
Important safety notes
Special tools and expert knowledge arerequired when working on the battery, e.g.removal and installation. You should thereforehave all work involving the battery carried outat a qualified specialist workshop.
GWARNING
Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can lead, for example, to a short circuit and
thus damage the vehicle electronics. This
can lead to function restrictions applying to
safety-relevant systems, e.g. the lighting
system, the ABS (anti-lock braking system)
or the ESP®(Electronic Stability Program).
The operating safety of your vehicle may be
restricted.
You could lose control of the vehicle, for
example:
Rwhen braking
Rin the event of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when the vehicle's speed is not
adapted to the road conditions
There is a risk of an accident.
In the event of a short circuit or a similar
incident, contact a qualified specialist work-
shop immediately. Do not drive any further.
You should have all work involving the bat-
tery carried out at a qualified specialist
workshop.
For further information about ABS and ESP®,see (Ypage 60) and (Ypage 63).
GWARNING
Electrostatic build-up can lead to the crea-
tion of sparks, which could ignite the highly
explosive gases of a battery. There is a risk
of an explosion.
Before handling the battery, touch the vehi-
cle body to remove any existing electrostatic
build-up.
The highly flammable gas mixture forms whencharging the battery as well as when jump-starting.
Always make sure that neither you nor the bat-tery is electrostatically charged. A build-up ofelectrostatic charge can be caused, for exam-ple:
Rby wearing clothing made from syntheticfibers
Rdue to friction between clothing and seats
Rif you push or pull the battery across thecarpet or other synthetic materials
Rif you rub the battery with a cloth
GWARNING
During the charging process, a battery pro-
duces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs

or sparks are created, the hydrogen gas can
ignite. There is a risk of an explosion.
RMake sure that the positive terminal of a
connected battery does not come into
contact with vehicle parts.
RNever place metal objects or tools on a
battery.
RIt is important that you observe the
described order of the battery terminals
when connecting and disconnecting a bat-
tery.
RWhen jump-starting, make sure that the
battery poles with identical polarity are
connected.
RIt is particularly important to observe the
described order when connecting and dis-
connecting the jumper cables.
RNever connect or disconnect the battery
terminals while the engine is running.
GWARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of
injury.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean
over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash away battery acid immedi-
ately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical attention.
HEnvironmental note
Batteries contain pollutants.
It is illegal to dispose of
them with the household
rubbish. They must be col-
lected separately and dis-
posed of in an environmen-
tally responsible recycling
system.
Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally responsible
manner. Take discharged
batteries to a qualified spe-
cialist workshop or to a col-
lection point for used bat-
teries.
!Have the battery regularly checked at aqualified specialist workshop.
Comply with the service intervals in theMaintenance Booklet, or contact a qualifiedspecialist workshop for more information.
!You should have all work involving the bat-tery carried out at a qualified specialistworkshop. In the exceptional case that it isnecessary for you to disconnect the batteryyourself, make sure that:
Rswitch off the engine and remove theSmartKey. On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO,make sure that the ignition is switchedoff. Check that all the indicator lamps inthe instrument cluster are off. Otherwise,electronic components, such as the alter-nator, may be damaged.
Ryou first remove the negative terminalclamp and then the positive terminalclamp. Never swap the terminal clamps.Otherwise, the vehicle's electronic systemmay be damaged.
Rin vehicles with automatic transmission,the transmission is locked in position]after the battery is disconnected. Thevehicle is secured against rolling away.You can then no longer move the vehicle.
The battery and the cover of the positive ter-minal clamp must be installed securely dur-ing operation.
Comply with safety precautions and take pro-tective measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion.
Fire, open flames and smoking areprohibited when handling the bat-tery. Avoid creating sparks.
Battery acid is caustic. Avoid con-tact with skin, eyes or clothing.
Wear suitable protective clothing,especially gloves, apron and face-guard.
Rinse any acid spills immediatelywith clear water. Contact a physi-cian if necessary.
