Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with theSmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the mechanicalkey.
XOpen the driver's door.
XClose the front-passenger door, the reardoors and the tailgate.
XPress the locking button on the driver’s door(Ypage 75).
XCheck whether the locking knobs on thefront-passenger door and the rear doors arestill visible. Press down the locking knobs byhand, if necessary.
XClose the driver's door.
XTake the mechanical key out of the Smart-Key (Ypage 71).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock ofthe driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise as far asit will go to position G.
XTurn the mechanical key back and removeit.
XMake sure that the doors and the tailgateare locked.
XInsert mechanical key into the SmartKey(Ypage 72).
iIf you lock the vehicle as described above,the fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-theft alarm system is not armed.

during automatic closing of the tailgate.
Moreover, people, e.g. children, may be
standing in the closing area or may enter the
closing area during the closing process.
There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of
the closing area during the closing process.
Use one of the following options to stop the
closing process:
Rpress the Tbutton on the SmartKey.
Rpull or press the remote operating switch
on the driver's door.
Rpress the close button or STOP button on
the tailgate.
Rpull the handle on the tailgate.

GWARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured
or not secured sufficiently, they could slip,
tip over or be flung around and thereby hit
vehicle occupants. There is a risk of injury,
particularly in the event of sudden braking
or a sudden change in direction.
Always store objects so that they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey.
!The tailgate swings upwards and to therear when opened. Therefore, make surethat there is sufficient clearance above andbehind the tailgate.
The opening dimensions of the tailgate can befound in the "Vehicle data" section(Ypage 339).
You should preferably place luggage or loadsin the cargo compartment. Observe the load-ing guidelines (Ypage 250).
Do not leave the SmartKey in the cargo com-partment. You could otherwise lock yourselfout.
The tailgate can be:
Ropened and closed manually from outside
Rvehicles with EASY-PACK tailgate:opened/closed automatically from the out-side
Rvehicles with EASY-PACK tailgate:opened/closed automatically from theinside
Rvehicles with EASY-PACK tailgate andwith KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO startfunction:closed with the remote operatingswitch on the SmartKey
Rreleased with the emergency release fromthe inside
Tailgate obstruction detection with
reversing feature
On vehicles with an EASY-PACK tailgate, thetailgate is equipped with automatic obstaclerecognition with a reversing feature. If a solidobject blocks or restricts the tailgate whenautomatically opening or closing, this proce-dure is stopped. If the tailgate is stopped dur-
ing the closing process, the tailgate automati-cally opens again slightly. The automaticobstruction detection with reversing feature isonly an aid. It is not a substitute for your atten-tiveness when opening and closing the tail-gate.
GWARNING
The reversing feature does not respond:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
Rover the last 1/3 in (8 mm) of the closing
movement
The reversing feature cannot prevent some-
one from becoming trapped in these situa-
tions in particular. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rpress the Tbutton on the SmartKey,
or
Rpull or press the remote operating switch
on the driver's door or
Rpress the closing button/STOP button in
the tailgate or
Rpull the handle on the tailgate
Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS:it isalso possible to stop the closing process byperforming a kicking movement under the rearbumper.

Vehicles with EASY-PACK tailgate:you canalso close the tailgate automatically from out-side.

HANDS-FREE ACCESS
Important safety notes
GWARNING
The vehicle exhaust system can become
very hot. If you use HANDS-FREE ACCESS,
you could burn yourself by touching the
exhaust system. There is a risk of injury.
Always ensure that you make the kicking
movement only within the detection range of
the sensors.
!If the SmartKey is within the rear detectionrange of KEYLESS-GO, the following situa-tions, for example, could lead to the unin-tentional opening of the tailgate:
Rwhen using an automatic car wash
Rwhen using a power washer
Make sure that the SmartKey is at least10 ft (3m) away fromthe vehicle.
iYou can also deactivate KEYLESS-GO. Fur-ther information on deactivating and activat-ing KEYLESS-GO (Ypage 70).
General notes
With KEYLESS-GO and HANDS-FREE ACCESS,you can open or close the tailgate or stop theprocedure without using your hands. This isuseful if you have your hands full. To do this,make a kicking movement under the bumperwith your foot.
Observe the following points:
RCarry your KEYLESS-GO key about your per-son. The SmartKey must be at the rear ofthe vehicle in the detection range of KEY-LESS-GO.
RWhen making the kicking movement, makesure that you are standing firmly on theground and that there is sufficient clearanceto the rear of the vehicle. You could other-wise lose your balance, for example on ice.
RAlways ensure that you only make the kick-ing movement within the detection range ofsensors C.
RStand at least 12 in (30 cm) away from therear area while doing so.
RDo not come into contact with the bumperwhile making the kicking movement. Other-wise, the sensors may not function cor-rectly.
RHANDS-FREE ACCESS does not functionduring engine start.
RDirt caused by road salt or snow aroundsensors Cmay restrict functionality.
Using the HANDS-FREE ACCESS with aprosthetic leg may restrict functionality.
RIf a KEYLESS-GO key is at the rear of thevehicle in the detection range of KEYLESS-GO, HANDS-FREE ACCESS could be trig-

gered. The tailgate could thus be opened orclosed unintentionally, for example, if you:
-set something down or lift something upbehind the vehicle.
-polish the rear of the vehicle.
Do not carry the KEYLESS-GO key aboutyour person in these situations or in situa-tions similar to these. This will prevent theunintentional opening/closing of the tail-gate.
Operation
XTo open/close:kick your foot into sensordetection zone Cbelow the bumper.Two warning tones sound while the tailgateis opening or closing.
XIf the tailgate does not open/close afterseveral attempts:wait at least ten sec-onds, using your foot kick under the bumperagain.
If you hold your foot under the bumper for toolong, the tailgate does not open or close.Repeat the leg movement more quickly if thisoccurs.
To stop the opening or closing procedure:
Rkick with your foot into sensor detectionrange Cunder the bumper, or
Rpull the handle on the outside of the tail-gate, or
Rpress the closing button on the tailgate, or
Rpress the Tbutton on the SmartKey
If the tailgate closing procedure has beenstopped:
Rkick your foot under the bumper again andthe tailgate will open.
If the tailgate opening procedure has beenstopped:
Rkick your foot under the bumper again andthe tailgate will close.

inside

XTo interrupt convenience opening:release the 6button.
Convenience closing feature

Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is
operating. Make sure that no body parts are
in close proximity during the closing proce-
dure.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GOstart function:you can do the following at thesame time:
Rlock the vehicle
Rclose the side windows
Rclose the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel, you can then close the rollersunblind.

Using the SmartKey
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:for the following opera-tions, point the tip of the SmartKey at thehandle on the driver's door. The SmartKeymust be close to the driver's door handle.
iVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:the SmartKey must bein close proximity to the vehicle.
XPress and hold the 7button until theside windows and the panorama sliding sun-roof are fully closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and thepanorama roof with power tilt/sliding panelare closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel:
XPress and hold the 7button again untilthe roller sunblind of the panorama slidingsunroof closes.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:releasethe 7button.
Using KEYLESS-GO
The driver's door and the door at which thehandle is used, must both be closed. TheSmartKey must be outside the vehicle. Thegap between the SmartKey and the corre-sponding door handle should not be greaterthan 3 ft (1 m).
XTouch recessed sensor surface Con thedoor handle until the side windows and thepanorama roof with power tilt/sliding panelare fully closed.
iMake sure you only touch recessed sensorsurface C.

There is a risk of fire and an accident.
Release the parking brake fully before driv-
ing off.
!Do not warm up the engine while station-ary. Pull away immediately. Avoid highengine speeds and full throttle until theengine has reached its operating tempera-ture.
In vehicles with automatic transmission,engage positions P and R only when thevehicle is stationary.
Where possible, avoid spinning the drivewheels when pulling away on slippery roads.You could otherwise damage the drive train.
!Mercedes-AMG vehicles:avoid full-loadoperation and engine speeds greater than5000 rpm when the engine is cold. Thishelps to protect the engine and avoidsuncomfortable driving.

iThe SmartKey can be turned in the ignitionlock even if it is not the correct SmartKeyfor the vehicle. The ignition is not switchedon. The engine cannot be started.
Start/Stop button
General notes
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO are equipped withSmartKeys featuring the integrated KEYLESS-GO function and a detachable Start/Stop but-ton.
A check which periodically establishes a radioconnection between the vehicle and theSmartKey determines whether a valid Smart-Key is in the vehicle. This occurs, for example,when starting the engine.
When you insert the Start/Stop button intothe ignition lock, the system needs approx-imately two seconds recognition time. You canthen use the Start/Stop button.
Pressing the Start/Stop button several timesin succession corresponds to the differentSmartKey positions in the ignition lock. This isonly the case if you are not depressing thebrake pedal.
If you depress the brake pedal and press theStart/Stop button, the engine starts immedi-ately.
To start the vehicle without actively using theSmartKey:
Rthe Start/Stop button must be inserted inthe ignition lock
Rthe SmartKey must be in the vehicle
Rthe vehicle must not be locked with theSmartKey or KEYLESS-GO (Ypage 70)
Do not keep the KEYLESS-GO key:
Rwith electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phoneor another SmartKey.
Rwith metallic objects, e.g. coins or metalfoil.
Rinside metallic objects, e.g. a metal case.
This can affect the functionality of KEYLESS-GO.
If you lock the vehicle with the SmartKeyremote control or with KEYLESS-GO, after ashort time:
Ryou will not be able to switch on the ignitionwith the Start/Stop button.
Ryou will no longer be able to start the enginewith the Start/Stop button until the vehicleis unlocked again.
If you lock the vehicle centrally using the but-ton on the front door (Ypage 75), you cancontinue to start the engine with the Start/Stop button.

Problems with fuel and the fuel tank

The fuel filler flap is unlocked, but the opening mechanism is jam-med.
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
Parking
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Flammable material such as leaves, grass or
twigs may ignite if they come into contact
with hot parts of the exhaust system or
exhaust gas flow. There is a risk of fire.
Park the vehicle so that no flammable mate-
rials come into contact with parts of the
vehicle which are hot. Take particular care
not to park on dry grassland or harvested
grain fields.
GWARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehi-
cle, they could:
Roperate the vehicle's equipment
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
Rrelease the parking brake
Rshift the automatic transmission out of
park position ]
Rstart the engine
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Never leave children or animals unattended
in the vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.
!Always secure the vehicle correctly againstrolling away. Otherwise, the vehicle or itsdrivetrain could be damaged.

XVehicles without KEYLESS-GO:removethe SmartKey from the ignition lock.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO start-func-tion or KEYLESS-GO:open the driver'sdoor.The vehicle electronics are now in position Z. This is the same as the SmartKey havingbeen removed.
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO start-func-tion or KEYLESS-GO:remove the Start/Stop button from the ignition lock(Ypage 125).
XMake sure that the engine cannot be startedvia your smartphone (Ypage 126).
XMake sure that the passengers are notendangered as they do so. Make sure thatno one is near the danger area while awheel is being changed. Anyone who is notdirectly assisting in the wheel changeshould, for example, stand behind the bar-rier.
XGet out of the vehicle. Pay attention to traf-fic conditions when doing so.
XClose the driver's door.
MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
properties)
General notes
With MOExtended tires (tires with run flatcharacteristics), you can continue to drive yourvehicle even if there is a total loss of pressurein one or more tires. The affected tire must notshow any clearly visible damage.
You can recognize an MOExtended tire by theMOExtended marking which appears on thesidewall of the tire. You will find this markingnext to the tire size designation, the load-bear-ing capacity and the speed index(Ypage 320).
MOExtended tires may be used only in con-junction with an activated tire pressure losswarning system (Canada only) or tire pressuremonitor (USA only).
If a pressure loss warning messageappears in the multifunction display:
Robserve the instructions in the display mes-sages (Ypage 223).
Rcheck the tire for damage
Rif driving on, observe the following notes
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis approximately 50 miles (80 km) when thevehicle is partially laden. When the vehicle isfully laden it is approximately 19 miles(30 km).
In addition to the vehicle load, the driving dis-tance possible depends upon:
RVehicle speed
RRoad condition
ROutside temperature
The driving distance possible in run-flat modemay be reduced by extreme driving conditionsor maneuvers, or it can be increased through amoderate style of driving.
The driving distance possible in run-flat modeis counted from the moment the tire pressureloss warning appears in the multifunction dis-play.
You must not exceed the maximum permissi-ble speed for limp-home mode of 50 mph(80 km/h).
When replacing one or all tires, please observethe following specifications for your vehicle'stires:
RSize
RType and
RThe "MOExtended" marking
If a tire has gone flat and cannot be replacedwith an MOExtended tire, a standard tire maybe used as a temporary measure. Make surethat you use the proper size and type (summeror winter tire).
Vehicles equipped with MOExtended tires arenot equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory.It is therefore recommended that you addition-ally equip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if youmount tires that do not feature run-flat charac-teristics, e.g. winter tires. A TIREFIT kit may beobtained from a qualified specialist workshop.
