Problems with the engine

Before attempting to start the engine again:
XTurn the SmartKey back to position Zin the ignition lock.
or
XPress the Start/Stop button repeatedly until all indicator lamps inthe instrument cluster go out.
XTry to start the engine again. Avoid excessively long and frequentattempts to start the engine as these will drain the battery.
If the engine does not start after several attempts:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
The engine does notstart. You cannot hearthe starter motor.
The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak ordischarged.
XJump-start the vehicle (Ypage 295).
If the engine does not start despite attempts to jump-start it:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
The starter motor was exposed to a thermal load that was too high.
XAllow the starter motor to cool down for approximately twominutes.
XTry to start the engine again.
If the engine still does not start:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.

Problems with fuel and the fuel tank

The fuel filler flap can-not be opened.The fuel filler flap is not unlocked.
XUnlock the vehicle (Ypage 69).
The SmartKey battery is discharged or nearly discharged.
XUnlock the vehicle using the mechanical key (Ypage 76).
The fuel filler flap is unlocked, but the opening mechanism is jam-med.
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
Parking
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Flammable material such as leaves, grass or
twigs may ignite if they come into contact
with hot parts of the exhaust system or
exhaust gas flow. There is a risk of fire.
Park the vehicle so that no flammable mate-
rials come into contact with parts of the
vehicle which are hot. Take particular care
not to park on dry grassland or harvested
grain fields.
GWARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehi-
cle, they could:
Roperate the vehicle's equipment
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
Rrelease the parking brake
Rshift the automatic transmission out of
park position ]
Rstart the engine
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Never leave children or animals unattended
in the vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.
!Always secure the vehicle correctly againstrolling away. Otherwise, the vehicle or itsdrivetrain could be damaged.

The electric parking brake is not automaticallyapplied if the engine is switched off by theECO start/stop function.
Releasing automatically
Your vehicle's electric parking brake is auto-matically released if all of the following condi-tions are met:
RThe engine is running
RThe transmission is in position [or ^andyou depress the accelerator pedal or shiftfrom position ]to [or ^
RThe seat belt is fastened
If the transmission is in position ^, the tail-gate must be closed.
If your seat belt is not fastened, the followingconditions must be fulfilled to automaticallyrelease the electric parking brake:
RThe driver's door is closed.
RYou are shifting from transmission position ]or have previously driven at speedsgreater than 2 mph (3 km/h)
Ensure that you do not depress the accelera-tor pedal unintentionally. Otherwise, the park-ing brake will be released and the vehicle willstart to move.
Emergency braking
The vehicle can also be braked during anemergency by using the electric parking brake.
XWhile driving, push handle Cof the electricparking brake (Ypage 147).The vehicle is braked as long as you keephandle Cof the electric parking brakepressed. The longer the electric parkingbrake handle Cis depressed, the greaterthe braking force.

When the vehicle has been braked to a stand-still, the electric parking brake is applied.
Parking the vehicle for a long period
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer thanfour weeks, the battery may be damaged byexhaustive discharging.
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer thansix weeks, the vehicle may suffer damage as aresult of lack of use.

Important safety notes
GWARNING
If you switch off the ignition while driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all. This could
affect, for example, the power steering and
the brake boosting effect. You will require
considerably more effort to steer and brake.
There is a risk of an accident.
Do not switch off the ignition while driving.
GWARNING
If you operate mobile communication equip-
ment when driving, you may be distracted
from the traffic situation. You could also
lose control of the vehicle. There is a risk of
an accident.
Only operate this equipment when the vehi-
cle is stationary.
Observe the legal requirements for the countryin which you are driving. Some jurisdictionsprohibit the driver from using a mobile phonewhile driving a vehicle.
If you make a call while driving, always usehands-free mode. Only operate the telephonewhen the traffic situation permits. If you areunsure, pull over to a safe location and stopbefore operating the telephone.

When driving at speeds below 19 mph(30 km/h), you will see parking symbol Dasa status indicator in the instrument cluster.When a parking space has been detected, anarrow towards the right or the left alsoappears. By default, Active Parking Assist onlydisplays parking spaces on the front-passenger side. Parking spaces on the driver'sside are displayed as soon as the turn signalon the driver's side is activated. When parkingon the driver's side, this must remain activateduntil you confirm the use of Active ParkingAssist by pressing the vbutton on the mul-tifunction steering wheel. The system automat-ically determines whether the parking space isparallel or at right-angles to the direction oftravel.
A parking space is displayed while you aredriving past it, and until you are approximately50 ft (15m) away from it.

If you leave the driver's seat when the vehi-
cle is only being braked by the Parking Pack-
age with rear view camera, it could roll
away:
Rif there is a malfunction in the system or
in the voltage supply
Rif the electrical system in the engine com-
partment, the battery or the fuses are
tampered with
Rif the battery is disconnected
Rif the vehicle is accelerated, e.g. by a vehi-
cle occupant
There is a risk of an accident.
Before leaving the vehicle, always secure it
against rolling away.
iIf Active Parking Assist detects obstacles,Active Parking Assist brakes automaticallywhile the vehicle is parking. You are respon-sible for braking in good time.
XStop the vehicle when the parking spacesymbol shows the desired parking space inthe instrument cluster.

12 V sockets
General notes
XTurn the SmartKey to position Gin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 125).
The sockets can be used for accessories witha maximum draw of 180 W (15 A). Accessoriesinclude such items as chargers for mobilephones.
If you use the sockets for long periods whenthe engine is switched off, the battery may dis-charge.
An emergency cut-out ensures that the on-board voltage does not drop too low. If the on-board voltage is too low, the power to thesockets is automatically cut. This ensures thatthere is sufficient power to start the engine.

To adjust the volume during a call, proceed asfollows:

GWARNING
If you open the hood when the drive system
has overheated or during a fire in the engine
compartment, you could come into contact
with hot gases or other escaping operating
fluids. There is a risk of burns.
Let the overheated components cool down
before opening the hood. In the event of a
fire in the engine compartment, keep the
hood closed and call the fire service.
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate is highly
flammable. If windshield washer concentrate
gets onto hot components of the engine or
the exhaust system, it can ignite. There is a
risk of fire and injury.
Make sure that windshield washer concen-
trate is not spilled in the vicinity of the filler
neck.
XTo open:pull cap Cupwards by the tab.
XAdd the premixed washer fluid.
XTo close:press cap Conto the filler neckuntil it engages.
If the washer fluid level drops below the rec-ommended minimum of 1 liter, a messageappears in the multifunction display promptingyou to add washer fluid (Ypage 228).

ASSYST PLUS
Service message
The ASSYST PLUS service interval displayinforms you of the next service due date.
You can find information on the type of serviceand service intervals in the Maintenance Book-let.
You can obtain further information from anauthorized Mercedes-Benz Center or athttp://www.mbusa.com (USA only).
iThe ASSYST PLUS service interval displaydoes not show any information on theengine oil level. Observe the notes on theengine oil level (Ypage 274).
The multifunction display shows a servicemessage for several seconds, e.g.:
RService A in .. daysService A in .. days
RService A dueService A due
RService A overdue by .. daysService A overdue by .. days
Depending on the operating conditions of thevehicle, the remaining time or distance untilthe next service due date is displayed.
The letterAAorBB, possibly in connection with anumber or another letter, indicates the type ofservice.AAstands for a minor service andBBfora major service.
You can obtain further information from anauthorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
The ASSYST PLUS service interval display doesnot take into account any periods of time dur-ing which the battery is disconnected.
Maintaining the time-dependent service sched-ule:
XNote down the service due date displayed inthe multifunction display before disconnect-ing the battery.
or
XAfter reconnecting the battery, subtract thebattery disconnection periods from the ser-vice date shown on the display.
Hiding a service message
XPress the vor 8button on the steer-ing wheel.
