Important safety notes
!
Make sure that there are no objects in the
footwell or behind the seats. There is a risk that the seats and/or the objects could be
damaged when PRE-SAFE ®
is activated.
Although your vehicle is equipped with a PRE-
SAFE ®
system, the possibility of injury in the
event of an accident cannot be ruled out.
Always adapt your driving style to suit the
prevailing road and weather conditions and
maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in
front. Drive carefully.
Function PRE-SAFE
®
intervenes:
R in emergency braking situations, e.g. when
BAS is activated
R in critical driving situations, e.g. when phys-
ical limits are exceeded and the vehicle
understeers or oversteers severely
R vehicles with the Driving Assistance pack-
age: when a driver assistance system inter-
venes powerfully or the radar sensor sys-
tem detects an imminent danger of colli-
sion in certain situations
PRE-SAFE ®
takes the following measures
depending on the hazardous situation detec-
ted:
R the front seat belts are pre-tensioned.
R if the vehicle skids, the side windows and
the panorama sliding sunroof are closed.
R vehicles with the memory function for the
front-passenger seat: the front-passenger
seat is adjusted if it is in an unfavourable
position.
If the hazardous situation passes without
resulting in an accident, PRE-SAFE ®
slackens
the belt pre-tensioning. All settings made by
PRE-SAFE ®
can then be reversed. If the seat belt pre-tensioning is not reduced:
X Move the seat backrest or seat back
slightly when the vehicle is stationary.
Seat belt pre-tensioning is reduced and the
locking mechanism is released.
The seat-belt adjustment is an integral part of
the PRE-SAFE ®
convenience function. Infor-
mation about the convenience function can
be found under "Belt adjustment"
(Y page 52). PRE-SAFE
®
PLUS (anticipatory occu-
pant protection PLUS)
Introduction PRE-SAFE
®
PLUS is only available in vehicles
with the Driving Assistance package.
Using the radar sensor system, PRE-SAFE ®
PLUS is able to detect that a head-on or rear- end collision is imminent. In certain hazard-
ous situations, PRE-SAFE ®
PLUS takes pre-
emptive measures to protect the vehicle
occupants.
Important safety notes The intervention of PRE-SAFE
®
PLUS cannot
prevent an imminent collision.
The driver is not warned before the interven-
tion of PRE-SAFE ®
PLUS.
PRE-SAFE ®
PLUS does not intervene:
R if the vehicle is reversing
R when the vehicle is towing a trailer and
there is a risk of a rear-end collision
When driving, or when parking or exiting a
parking space with assistance from Active
Parking Assist, PRE-SAFE ®
PLUS will not
apply the brakes.
Function PRE-SAFE
®
PLUS intervenes in certain situa-
tions if the radar sensor system detects an
imminent head-on or rear-end collision. 64

Important safety notes G
WARNING
When a load is transported on the roof, the
vehicle's centre of gravity rises and the han-
dling changes. If you exceed the maximum
roof load, the handling as well as steering and braking characteristics are severely affected.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always observe the maximum roof load and
adapt your driving style.
You will find information on the maximum roof
load in the "Technical data" section
(Y page 488).
! Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
only use roof carriers that have been tested
and approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
This helps to prevent damage to the vehi-
cle.
Position the load on the roof carrier in such
a way that the vehicle will not sustain dam-
age even when it is in motion. Depending on the vehicle equipment,
ensure that when the roof carrier is fitted
you can:
R raise the sliding sunroof/panorama slid-
ing sunroof fully
R open the tailgate fully
An incorrectly secured roof carrier or roof
load may become detached from the vehicle. You must therefore ensure that you observe
the roof carrier manufacturer's installation
instructions.
Vehicles with panorama sliding sunroof: if
a roof carrier is fitted, the panorama sliding
sunroof cannot be opened. In order to allow
ventilation of the vehicle interior, you can
raise the panorama sliding sunroof.
If a roof carrier approved by Mercedes-Benz
makes contact with the panorama sliding
sunroof, the sunroof will lower slightly but
remain raised in the rear.
Attaching the roof carrier X
Secure the roof carrier to the roof rails.
X Observe the manufacturer's installation
instructions. Features

Important safety notes G
WARNING
If objects in the passenger compartment are
stowed incorrectly, they can slide or be
thrown around and hit vehicle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
R Always stow objects so that they cannot be
thrown around in such situations.
R Always make sure that objects do not pro-
trude from stowage spaces, parcel nets or
stowage nets. 402

objects, for example
There is a risk of fire and injury.

Turn the key to position 1in the ignition
lock (Y page 187).
The sockets can be used for accessories with a maximum draw of 180 W(15 A). Accesso-
ries include such items as mobile phone
chargers.
If you use the sockets for long periods when
the engine is switched off, the battery may
discharge.
An emergency cut-off ensures that the on-
board voltage does not drop too low. If the on-
board voltage is too low, the power to the
sockets is automatically cut. This ensures Features

Problems with the 230 V power socket
Problem
Possible causes/consequences and
M
MSolutions The warning lamp on
the 230 V power socket
is not lit. The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak.
X Start the engine.
or
X Charge the battery (Y page 441).
If the indicator lamp still does not light up:
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. The temperature of the DC/AC converter is temporarily too high.
X Remove the electronic device connector from the 230 V socket.
X Let the DC/AC converter cool down.
If the indicator lamp still does not light up after the converter cools
down:
X Consult a qualified specialist workshop. You have connected an electronic device that has a constant
nominal power of less than 150 watts, but has a very high switch-
on current. This device will not work. If you connect such a device, the 230 V power socket will not supply it with power.
X Connect a suitable electronic device. Mercedes-Benz emergency call sys-
tem

found in the separate COMAND Online oper-
ating instructions. X
To open: press cover :briefly.
X To make an emergency call: press SOS

flashes until the emergency call is conclu-
ded.
X Wait for a voice connection to the
Mercedes-Benz emergency call centre.
X After the emergency call, close cover :.
You will see a message if:
R a connection to the Mercedes-Benz
emergency call centre cannot be made
R a call has not been automatically forwar-
ded to the public emergency call centre
In this case, dial the 112emergency num-
ber on your mobile phone.

General notes The towing eye is located in the left-sided
stowage well under the luggage compartment
floor.
Apart from some country-specific variants,
vehicles are not equipped with tyre-changing tools.
If your vehicle is equipped with a tyre-change
tool kit, it is located in the stowage well under the luggage compartment floor.
Some tools for changing a wheel are specific
to the vehicle. For more information on which tyre changing tools are required and
approved to perform a wheel change on your
vehicle, consult a qualified specialist work-
shop.
Necessary tyre-changing tools can include,
for example:
R Jack
R Wheel chock R
