The 112 emer gency call sy stem (EU eCall) in
yo ur vehicle meets the delegated regulation
EU 20 17/79. Proper and full functionality of
th e11 2 emergency call sy stem (EU eCall)
depends on circums tances be yond the influ‐
ence of Mercedes-Benz AG. This includes
mobile network co verage and thete ch nical
infrastructu reofthe public reception centres
in there spective countries.

ge nuine Mercedes-Benz batteries mu stbe
used which ha vebeen certified pursuant to
th e delegated regulation EU 20 17/79
(Appendix I). Other manu facturers are also
permitted pr ovided their batteries are certi‐
fi ed according tothe delegated regulation
EU 20 17/79.
The reisthe option of deactivating the
Mercedes-Benz emer gency call sy stem and
using only the11 2 emer gency call sy stem (EU

recommends the activation of
th e Mercedes-Benz emer gency call sy stem for
th efo llowing reasons:
R In emer gency situations when ab road, you
can also get support in a language you
speak.
R Several transmission tech nologies are used
to accelerate the transfer of the accident
data and impr overe liability of the transmis‐
sion.
R The Mercedes-Benz emer gency call sy stem is
permanently logged in tothe mobile phone
networ k,which ensures faster placement of
th e emer gency call and faster transfer of the
accident data.
Measures forre scue, reco very or towing
aw ay can then be initiated in quickl y.
R With a Mercedes-Benz emer gency call, the
accident data is on lytrans ferred tothe pub‐
lic coordination cent rewith the appr oval of
th e cus tomer.
In theeve nt of an au tomatical lytrig gered
emer gency call in which there is no voice
con tact, the accident data is transmit tedimmediately
tothe public emer gency call
centre.
R Should the Mercedes-Benz emer gency call
centre not be available, the11 2 emer gency
call is car ried out automaticall y.
Overview of emer gency call sy stems
Bo th th e Mercedes-Benz emer gency call sy stem
as well as the11 2 emer gency call sy stem (EU
eCall) can help toreduce the time between an
accident and the ar riva l of emer gency services
at the site of the accident. They help locate an
accident site in places that are dif ficult to
access.
Bo th emer gency call sy stems can initiate an
emer gency call au tomatically (/ page 469) or
manually .
Only make emergency calls if you or others are
in need of rescue. Do not make an emergency
call in theeve nt of a breakdown or a similar sit‐

eCall is not available. This does not necessa‐
ri ly indicate comple tefailure of the emer‐
ge ncy call sy stem. Emer gency calls call still
be transmitte d.
The display only refers to theve hicle and
does not take account of theav ailability of
mobile phone networ ksand the Mercedes-
Benz emer gency call centre.
The functional readiness of the emer gency
call sy stem on theve hicle can be seen when
th eSOS NOT READY display disappears once
th e ignition is switched on.
R 0053: The icon appears in the display during
an active emer gency call.
% Ifth ere is a malfunction in the emer gency
call sy stem (e.g. a fault with the speaker,
microphone, airbag, SOS button), a cor re‐
sponding message appears inthe multifunc‐
tion display of the instrument clus ter. Tr

as airbags or seat belt tensioners af ter an

The SOS button in theov erhead control panel
fl ashes until the emer gency call is finished. If no connection can be made
tothe public

diagnosis (Russia)
Yo ur car verifies the operability of the emer‐
ge ncy call sy stem each time the ignition is ON.
In case of sy stem failure, you will be informed
with text messa geon the instrument clus ter and
with red indicator SOS NOT READY onthe dis‐
pla y.
Please, make sure, that during 30 seconds af ter
switching ignition ON there d indicator SOS
NOT READY inthe upper right corner of display is switched OFF,
this means the emer gency call
sy stem passed diagnostics successfully.

te m ins tead of the Mercedes-Benz emer gency
call sy stem.

emer gency call sy stem (EU eCall)
All processing of personal data via the11 2 emer‐
ge ncy call sy stem (EU eCall) cor responds with
th e specifications in the EU Regulation
20 16 /679 "on the pr otection of individuals with
re ga rd tothe processing of personal data
(GDPR)" and is based particular lyon the neces‐
sity of upholding the vital interests of the af fec‐
te d person in accordance with Article 6, Clause
1, Letter d of the GDPR.
The processing of this type of data is strictly
limited tothe purpose of operating the emer‐
ge ncy calls tothest andard European emer gency
call number 112.
Data recipient
The recipients of da tathat is processed using
th e11 2 emergency call sy stem (EU eCall) are the
re leva nt eme rgency call inquiry term inals that
are specified tofirs tre cei veand handle emer‐
ge ncy calls tothest andard European emer gency

authorities in whose territory you are located. Ar
rangements for data processing
Bo th emer gency call sy stems are designed so
th at thefo llowing requ irements are fulfilled:
R The data con tained in the sy stem memory is
not accessible outside the sy stem prior to
th e initiation of an emer gency call.
R Both emer gency call sy stems cann otbe
traced and there is no continuous tracking in
normal operation.
R The data in the sy stem's internal memory is
automatically and continuously dele ted.
R The location data of theve hicle is continu‐
ously overwritten in the sy stem's internal
memor y,so that no more than the last three
cur rent locations requ ired forth e normal
function of the sy stem are available.
R The record of the activity data of bo themer‐
ge ncy call sy stems is only kept for as long as
is requ ired tofulfil the purpose of handling
th e emer gency call, and under no circum‐
st ances for more than 13 hours af terthe
time that an emer gency call is initia ted. Rights of persons af
fected bythe data pro‐
cessing
The person af fected bythe data processing (the
ve hicle owner) has theright toaccess the data
and if applicable can demand the cor rection,
del etion or bar ring of da tathat af fects him or
her and that the processing of which does not
cor respond with the GDPR regulations. Each cor‐
re ction, del etion or bar ring car ried out according
to this regulation must be shared with theth ird
party towhich the data has been transmit ted,
pr ov ided this does not pr oveto be infeasible and
does not incur disproportionate expenditure.
The person af fected bythe data processing has
th eright tocomplain tothe appropriate data
pr otection authority should they be of the opin‐
ion that their rights ha vebeen infringed bythe
processing of their personal data.
