You can movethe front passenger seat into afullyreclined position. Therear seat and frontpassenger seatthen provide a continuous sur‐face.
#Putthe seat cushion oftherear seat alltheway back inthefore-and-aft position(→page97).
#Movethe front passenger seat into positionforchauffeur mode (→page100).
#Removethe front passenger headrestraint(→page101).
#Movethe front passenger seat sothatthebackrest is in a fullyreclined position(→page93).

#Beforestartingthe engine: adjustthedriver's seat,the headrestraint,the
steering wheel orthe mirror andfastenyour seat belt.
&WARNINGRisk of injuryduetoheadrestraints which are not installed or areadjusted incorrectly
If headrestraints are not installed or areadjusted incorrectly,the headrestraints can‐not provide protection as intended.
There is an increasedrisk of injury inthehead and neck area, e.g. intheevent of anaccident or when braking.
#Always drive withthe headrestraintsinstalled.
#Before driving off, make sureforeveryvehicle occupantthatthe center oftheheadrestraint supportsthe back ofthehead at abouteye level.
Do not interchangethe headrestraints ofthefront andrear seats. Otherwise,you will not beabletoadjustthe height and angle ofthe headrestraints correctly.

#Toswitch off/reducethe level:press but‐ton1repeatedly untilthe desiredventila‐tion level is set.If all indicator lamps are off,the seatventila‐tion is switched off.

Thesteering wheel can be adjusted whenthepower supplyis switched off.

This is onlythe case if one ofthefollowing con‐ditions is also fulfilled:
RThe engine is switched off.
RThe seat belttongue is not inserted intheseat belt buckle ofthe driver's seat andthedriver's door is opened.
RThere is a system malfunction.
RThe power supply is insufficient.
RThevehicle isstationaryfor a lengthyperiod.
Whenthe electric parking brake is applied,theredI(USA) or$(Canada) indicator lampappears inthe instrument cluster.
The electric parking brake is not automaticallyapplied ifthe engine is switched offbythe ECOstart/stop function.
Electric parking brake function (releasingautomatically)
The electric parking brake isreleased whenthefollowing conditions are fulfilled:
RThe engine isrunning.
RThe seat belttongue is inserted intothe seatbelt buckle ofthe driver's seat.
RThe transmission is in position[or^andyou depressthe accelerator pedal oryou
shift from transmission position]to[or^.
RIfthe transmission is in position^,thetrunk lid mustbe closed.
Ifthe seat belttongue is not inserted intotheseat belt buckle ofthe driver's seat,thefollow‐ing conditions must be fulfilled:
RThe driver's door is closed.
RYou movethe transmission out of transmis‐sion position]oryou havepreviouslydrivenfasterthan 2mph (3 km/h).
RIfthe transmission is in position^,thetrunk lid mustbe closed.
Whenthe electric parking brake isreleased,theredI(USA) or$(Canada) indicator lampinthe instrument cluster goes out.

Information on HillStart Assist
HillStart Assist holdsthevehiclefor a shorttime when pullingawayon a hill underthefol‐lowing conditions:
RThe transmission is in position[or^.
RThe electric parking brake isreleased.
This givesyou enough timetomoveyourfootfromthe brake pedaltothe accelerator pedaland depress it beforethevehicle beginstoroll.
&WARNINGRisk of accident and injuryduetothevehiclerollingaway
After a short time, HillStart Assist no longerholdsthevehicle and it canrollaway.
#Therefore, swiftly moveyourfootfromthe brake pedaltothe acceleratorpedal. Never attempttoleavethevehi‐cle if it is being heldbyHillStart Assist.
HOLD function
HOLD functionThe HOLD function holdsthevehicle at astand‐still withoutrequiringyoutodepressthe brakepedal, e.g. whilewaiting in traffic.
System limitationsThe HOLD function is only intendedtoprovideassistance when driving and is not a sufficientmeans of safeguardingthevehicle againstrollingawaywhenstationary.
RThe incline must not be greaterthan 30%.
Activating/deactivating the HOLD function
&WARNINGRisk of an accident duetotheHOLD function being activated whenyouleavethevehicle
Ifyou leavethevehicle while onlythe HOLDfunction is brakingthevehicle,thevehiclecanrollawayinthefollowing situations:
RIfthere is a malfunction inthe system orinthe power supply.
RIfthe HOLD function is deactivatedbydepressingthe accelerator pedal or brakepedal, e.g.byavehicle occupant.
#Always deactivatethe HOLD functionand securethevehicle againstrollingawaybefore leavingthevehicle.

WhenActive Brake Assist,Active DistanceAssistDISTRONIC orthe HOLD function areactivated,thevehicle brakes autonomouslyin certain situations.
