coolant isamixt ureofwater andanti-
freeze/ corrosion inhibitor.Itis responsible for
the following:
R anti- corrosion protection
R antifr eezeprotec tion
R raising theboiling point
If the coolant hasantifr eezeprotec tiondown
to -35 ‡(-37 †),theboiling pointofthe cool-
ant during operation isapproximately 266‡
(130 †).
The antifr eeze/c orrosion inhibitorconcentra-
tion inthe engine cooling systemshould:
R be atleast 50%.Thiswillprotec tthe engine
cooling systemagainst freezingdown to
approximately -35‡(-37 †).
R not exceed 55%(antifreez eprotec tiondown
to -49 ‡[-45 †]). Otherwise, heatwillnot
be dissipated aseffect ively.
If the vehicle haslost coolant, addequal
amounts ofwater andantifr eeze/c orrosion
inhibitor.
