Important safety notes
GWARNING
Each tire, including the spare (if provided),
should be checked at least once a month
when cold and inflated to the pressure rec-
ommended by the vehicle manufacturer on
the Tire and Loading Information placard on
the driver's door B-pillar or the tire pressure
label on the inside of the fuel filler flap. If
your vehicle has tires of a different size than
the size indicated on the Tire and Loading
Information placard or the tire pressure
label, you should determine the proper tire
pressure for those tires.
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitor-
ing system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire
pressure telltale when one or more of your
tires are significantly underinflated. Accord-
ingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illu-
minates, you should stop and check your
tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to
the proper pressure. Driving on a signifi-
cantly underinflated tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-
inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire
tread life, and may affect the vehicle's han-
dling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substi-
tute for proper tire maintenance, and it is
the driver's responsibility to maintain cor-
rect tire pressure, even if underinflation has
not reached the level to trigger illumination
of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a
TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate if the
system is not operating properly. The TPMS
malfunction indicator is combined with the
low tire pressure telltale. When the system
detects a malfunction, the warning lamp will
flash for approximately a minute and then
remain continuously illuminated. This
sequence will be repeated every time the
vehicle is started as long as the malfunction
exists.
When the malfunction indicator is illumina-
ted, the system may not be able to detect or
signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a variety of rea-
sons, including the installation of incompati-
ble replacement or alternate tires or wheels
on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from
functioning properly. Always check the
TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing
one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle
to ensure that the replacement or alternate
tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue
to function properly.
It is the driver's responsibility to set the tirepressure to that recommended for cold tireswhich is suitable for the operating situation(Ypage 270). Note that the correct tire pres-sure for the current operating situation mustfirst be taught-in to the tire pressure monitor.If a substantial loss of pressure occurs, thewarning threshold for the warning message isaligned to the taught-in reference values.Restart the tire pressure monitor after adjust-ing the pressure of the cold tires(Ypage 277). The current pressures aresaved as new reference values. As a result, awarning message will appear if the tire pres-sure drops significantly.
The tire pressure monitor does not warn you ofan incorrectly set tire pressure. Observe thenotes on the recommended tire pressure(Ypage 270).
The tire pressure monitor is not able to warnyou of a sudden loss of pressure, e.g. if thetire is penetrated by a foreign object. In theevent of a sudden loss of pressure, bring the

If the wheel positions on the vehicle are rota-ted, the tire pressures may be displayed forthe wrong positions for a short time. This isrectified after a few minutes of driving, and thetire pressures are displayed for the correctpositions.
Restarting the tire pressure monitor
When you restart the tire pressure monitor, allexisting warning messages are deleted and thewarning lamps go out. The monitor uses thecurrently set tire pressures as the referencevalues for monitoring. In most cases, the tirepressure monitor will automatically detect thenew reference values after you have changedthe tire pressure. However, you can also setreference values manually as described here.The tire pressure monitor then monitors thenew tire pressure values.
XSet the tire pressure to the value recom-mended for the corresponding driving situa-tion on the Tire and Loading Informationplacard on the driver's side B-pillar(Ypage 270).
Additional tire pressure values for differentloads can also be found on the tire pressuretable on the inside of the fuel filler flap(Ypage 270).
XMake sure that the tire pressure is correcton all four wheels.

GWARNING
Overloaded tires can overheat, causing a
blowout. Overloaded tires can also impair
the steering and driving characteristics and
lead to brake failure. There is a risk of acci-
dent.
Observe the load rating of the tires. The load
rating must be at least half of the GAWR of
your vehicle. Never overload the tires by
exceeding the maximum load.
Two instruction labels on your vehicle showthe maximum possible load.
(1) The Tire and Loading Information placardis on the B-pillar on the driver's side. TheTire and Loading Information placardshows the maximum permissible numberof occupants and the maximum permissi-ble vehicle load. It also contains details ofthe tire sizes and corresponding pressuresfor tires mounted at the factory.
(2) The vehicle identification plate is on theB-pillar on the driver's side. The vehicleidentification plate informs you of thegross vehicle weight rating. It is made upof the vehicle weight, all vehicle occu-pants, the fuel and the cargo. You can alsofind information about the maximum grossaxle weight rating on the front and rearaxle.
The maximum gross axle weight rating isthe maximum weight that can be carriedby one axle (front or rear axle). Neverexceed the maximum load or the maxi-mum gross axle weight rating for the frontor rear axle.

iNot all tires with the M+S marking providethe driving characteristics of winter tires. Inaddition to the M+S marking, winter tiresalso have theMsnowflake symbol on thetire wall. Tires with this marking fulfill therequirements of the Rubber ManufacturersAssociation (RMA) and the Rubber Associa-tion of Canada (RAC) regarding the tire trac-tion on snow. They have been especiallydeveloped for driving on snow.
An electronic speed limiter prevents your vehi-cle from exceeding a speed of 130 mph(210 km/h).
The speed rating of tires mounted at the fac-tory may be higher than the maximum speedthat the electronic speed limiter permits.
Make sure that your tires have the requiredspeed rating, e.g. when buying new tires. Therequired speed rating for your vehicle can befound in the "tires" section (Ypage 292).
Further information about reading tire datacan be obtained from any qualified specialistworkshop.
Load index
In addition to the load-bearing index, loadindexCmay also be imprinted on the side-wall of the tire. You will find this after the let-ter that identifies the speed rating(Ypage 283).

Maximum load rating
Maximum tire loadCis the maximum permis-sible weight for which the tire is approved.
Do not overload the tires by exceeding thespecified load limit. The maximum permissibleload can be found on the vehicle's Tire andLoading Information placard on the B-pillar onthe driver's side (Ypage 279).
iThe actual values for tires are vehicle-spe-cific and may deviate from the values in theillustration.
DOT, Tire Identification Number (TIN)
US tire regulations stipulate that every tiremanufacturer or retreader must imprint a TINin or on the sidewall of each tire produced.
The TIN is a unique identification number. TheTIN enables the tire manufacturers or retread-ers to inform purchasers of recalls and othersafety-relevant matters. It makes it possiblefor the purchaser to easily identify the affectedtires.

Clean the contact surfaces of the wheel andthe brake disc thoroughly every time a wheelis rotated. Check the tire pressure and, if nec-essary, restart the tire pressure loss warningsystem or the tire pressure monitor.
Direction of rotation
Tires with a specified direction of rotation haveadditional benefits, e.g. if there is a risk ofhydroplaning. These advantages can only begained if the tires are installed correspondingto the direction of rotation.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicatesits correct direction of rotation.
Storing wheels
Store wheels that are not being used in a cool,dry and preferably dark place. Protect the tiresfrom oil, grease, gasoline and diesel.

XStop the vehicle on solid, non-slippery andlevel ground.
XApply the electric parking brake manually.
XBring the front wheels into the straight-ahead position.

tools are required to perform a wheelchange on your vehicle, consult an author-ized Mercedes-Benz Center.

These tires have been specially adapted foruse with the control systems, such as ABS
or ESP®, and are marked as follows:
RMO = Mercedes-Benz Original
RMOE = Mercedes-Benz Original Extended(tires featuring run-flat characteristics)
RMO1 = Mercedes-Benz Original (only cer-tain AMG tires)
Mercedes-Benz Original Extended tires mayonly be used on wheels that have been spe-cifically approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Only use tires, wheels or accessories testedand approved by Mercedes-Benz. Certaincharacteristics, e.g. handling, vehicle noiseemissions or fuel consumption, may other-wise be adversely affected. In addition,when driving with a load, tire dimension var-iations could cause the tires to come intocontact with the bodywork and axle compo-nents. This could result in damage to thetires or the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz accepts no liability for dam-age resulting from the use of tires, wheelsor accessories other than those tested andapproved.
Information on tires, wheels and approvedcombinations can be obtained from anyqualified specialist workshop.
!Retreaded tires are neither tested nor rec-ommended by Mercedes-Benz, since previ-ous damage cannot always be detected onretreaded tires. As a result, Mercedes-Benzcannot guarantee vehicle safety if retreadedtires are mounted. Do not mount used tiresif you have no information about their previ-ous usage.
The recommended pressures for various oper-ating conditions can be found:
Ron the Tire and Loading Information placardon the B-pillar on the driver's side
Rin the tire pressure table on the fuel fillerflap
Observe the notes on recommended tire pres-sures under various operating conditions(Ypage 270).
Check tire pressures regularly, and only whenthe tires are cold. Comply with the mainte-nance recommendations of the tire manufac-turer in the vehicle document wallet.
Notes on the vehicle equipment – alwaysequip the vehicle:
Rwith tires of the same size on a given axle(left and right)
Rwith the same type of tires at a given time(summer tires, winter tires, MOExtendedtires)
Exception: it is permissible to mount a dif-ferent type or make in the event of a flattire. Observe the "MOExtended tires (tireswith run-flat characteristics)" section(Ypage 253).
Vehicles equipped with MOExtended tires arenot equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory.It is therefore recommended that you addition-ally equip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if youmount tires that do not feature run-flat charac-teristics, e.g. winter tires. A TIREFIT kit may beobtained from a qualified specialist workshop.

The wheel or tire size as well as the tire type
of the spare wheel or emergency spare
wheel and the wheel to be replaced may dif-
fer. Mounting an emergency spare wheel
may severely impair the driving characteris-
tics. There is a risk of an accident.
To avoid hazardous situations:
Radapt your driving style accordingly and
drive carefully.
Rnever mount more than one spare wheel
or emergency spare wheel that differs in
size.
Ronly use a spare wheel or emergency
spare wheel of a different size briefly.
Rdo not switch ESP®off.
Rhave a spare wheel or emergency spare
wheel of a different size replaced at the
nearest qualified specialist workshop.
Observe that the wheel and tire dimen-
sions as well as the tire type must be cor-
rect.

When using an emergency spare wheel orspare wheel of a different size, you must notexceed the maximum speed of 50 mph(80 km/h).
Snow chains must not be mounted on emer-gency spare wheels.
General notes
You can ask for information regarding permit-ted emergency spare wheels at an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.
You should regularly check the pressure of theemergency spare wheel, particularly prior tolong trips, and correct the pressure as neces-sary (Ypage 270). The value on the wheel isvalid.
An emergency spare wheel may also be moun-ted against the direction of rotation. Observethe time restriction on use as well as thespeed limitation specified on the emergencyspare wheel.
Replace the tires after six years at the latest,regardless of wear. This also applies to theemergency spare wheel.
When you are driving with the collapsiblespare wheel mounted, the tire pressure losswarning system or the tire pressure monitorcannot function reliably. Only restart the tirepressure loss warning system or tire pressuremonitor when the defective wheel has beenreplaced with a new wheel.
Vehicles with tire pressure monitor:aftermounting an emergency spare wheel, the sys-tem may still display the tire pressure of theremoved wheel for a few minutes. The valuedisplayed for the mounted emergency sparewheel is not the same as the current tire pres-sure of the emergency spare wheel.

The collapsible spare wheel can be found inthe stowage well under the trunk floor(Ypage 227).

Stowing the emergency spare wheel
!Only place the collapsible spare wheel inthe vehicle when it is dry. Otherwise, mois-ture may get into the vehicle.
Take the following steps to stow a used col-lapsible spare wheel. Otherwise, the collapsi-ble spare wheel will not fit in the trunk in theintended manner. Mercedes-Benz recom-mends that you have this work carried out at aqualified specialist workshop.
XUnscrew the valve cap from the valve.
XIf possible, unscrew the valve insert fromthe valve and release the air.Fully deflating the tires can take a fewminutes.
XScrew the valve insert back into the valve.
XScrew the valve cap back on.
XPull the protective sheet provided with thespare wheel over the collapsible sparewheel.
XStow the collapsible spare wheel in theemergency spare wheel well under thetrunk.
XUse the retaining screw to pierce the pro-tective sheet and fasten the collapsiblespare wheel in place.

Do not mix such fuels with the fuel recom-mended for your vehicle.
!To ensure the longevity and full perform-ance of the engine, only premium-gradeunleaded gasoline must be used.
If standard unleaded gasoline is unavailableand you have to refuel with unleaded gaso-line of a lower grade, observe the followingprecautions:
ROnly fill the fuel tank to half full with regu-lar unleaded gasoline and fill the rest withpremium-grade unleaded gasoline as soonas possible.
RDo not drive at the maximum speed.
RAvoid sudden acceleration and enginespeeds over 3,000 rpm.
You will usually find information about the fuelgrade on the fuel pump. If you cannot find thelabel on the fuel pump, ask the gas stationstaff.
iFor further information, consult a qualifiedspecialist workshop or visithttp://www.mbusa.com (USA only).
As a temporary measure, if the recommendedfuel is not available, you may also use regularunleaded gasoline with an octane rating of87 AKI/91 RON. This may reduce engine per-formance and increase fuel consumption.Avoid driving at full throttle and sudden accel-eration. Never refuel using gasoline with alower AKI.
iThe fuels you can use in your vehicle maydiffer from the information in the Operator'sManual depending on the country. The fuelsthat have been approved for your vehiclecan be found on the instruction label on theinside of the fuel filler flap.

Additives in gasoline
!Operating the engine with fuel additivesadded later can lead to engine failure. Donot mix fuel additives with fuel. This doesnot include additives for the removal andprevention of residue buildup. gasoline mustonly be mixed with additives recommendedby Mercedes-Benz. Comply with the instruc-tions for use on the product label. Moreinformation about recommended additivescan be obtained from any authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you usebranded fuels that have additives.
The fuel quality available in some countriesmay not be sufficient. Residue could build upin the fuel injection system as a result. In suchcases, and in consultation with an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center, the fuel may be mixedwith the cleaning additive recommended byMercedes-Benz. You must observe the notesand mixing ratios specified on the container.
Engine oil
General notes
!Do not use engine oil or an oil filter withspecifications deviating from thoseexpressly required for the prescribed serviceintervals. Do not change the engine oil or oilfilter in order to set replacement intervalslonger than those prescribed. This couldotherwise cause damage to the engine orexhaust gas aftertreatment.
Follow the instructions on the service inter-val display for changing the engine oil. Thiscould otherwise cause damage to theengine or exhaust gas aftertreatment.
When handling engine oil, observe the impor-tant safety notes on service products(Ypage 298).
The engine oils are matched to the perform-ance of Mercedes-Benz engines and serviceintervals. You should therefore only use engineoils and oil filters that are approved for vehi-cles with maintenance systems.
