If you pull on the handl eofthe trunk lid, only
the trunk of the vehicle is unlocked. Changing the settings of the locking
system
You can change the settings of the locking
system. This means only the driver's door, the
lockable stowage compartments in the
vehicle interior and the fuel filler flap are
unlocked when the vehicle is unlocked. This
is useful if you frequently travel on your own.
X To change the setting: press and hold
down the 0010and000F buttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery check lamp
flashes twice (Y page 73).
i If the setting of the locking system is
changed within the signal range of the
vehicle, pressing the 000For0010 button:
R locks or
R unlocks the vehicle The SmartKey now functions as follows:
X
To unlock the driver's door: press the
0010 button once.
X To unlock centrally: press the0010
button twice.
X To lock centrally: press the000Fbutton.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as
follows:
X To unlock the driver's door: touch the
inner surface of the door handle on the
driver's door.
X To unlock centrally: touch the inner
surface of the front-passenger door handle.
X To lock centrally: touch the outer sensor
surface on one of the door handles.
X To restore the factory settings: press
and hold down the 0010and000F buttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery check lamp
flashes twice (Y page 73). Mechanical key
General notes If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the SmartKey, use the
mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door or the trunk lid, the
anti-theft alarm system will be triggered
(Y
page 67).
There are several ways to turn off the alarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the
SmartKey: press the0010or000F button
on the SmartKey.
or
X Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
or
X To deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-
GO: press the Start/Stop button in the
ignition lock. The SmartKey must be in the
vehicle. 72

X
Press mechanical key 0004into the opening
in the key in the direction of the arrow until
battery compartment cover 0003opens.
When doing so, do not hold battery
compartment cover 0003shut.
X Remove battery compartment cover 0003.X
Repeatedly tap the SmartKey against your
palm until battery 0024falls out.
X Inser tthe new battery with the positive
terminal facing upwards. Use a lint-free
cloth to do so.
X Make sure that the surface of the battery is
free from lint, grease and all other forms of
contamination.
X Insert the front tabs of battery
compartment cover 0003into the housing
and then press to close it.
X Insert mechanical key 0004into the
SmartKey.
X Check the function of all SmartKey buttons
on the vehicle. 74

X To disarm: press and hold button 0003for
about five seconds until a tone sounds.
X To arm: press and hold button 0004for about
five seconds until a tone sounds.
i If you press one of th etwo buttons and
do not hear a tone, the relevant setting has
already been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignitio nis switched on and the wheels are
turning.
You could therefore lock yourselfo ut if:
R the vehicle is being pushed.
R the vehicle is being towed.
R the vehicle is on a roller dynamometer.
You can also switch the automatic locking
function on and off using the on-board
computer (Y page 206). Unlocking the driver's door
(mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked with
the SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door, the anti-thef talarm
system will be triggered ( Ypage 67). X
Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 72).
X Insert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go. X
Turn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
to position 0006.
The door is unlocked.
X Turn the mechanical key back and remove
it.
X Insert the mechanical key into the
SmartKey. Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
SmartKey, use the mechanical key.
X Open the driver's door.
X Close the front-passenger door and the
trunk lid.
X Press the locking button (Y page 77).
X Check whether the locking knob on the
front-passenger door is still visible. If
necessary, press the locking knob down by
hand (Y page 77).
X Close the driver's door.
X Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 72).
X Insert the mechanical key into the lock of
the driver's door as far as it will go. 78
DoorsOpening/closing

Install or remove the wind screen only when
the vehicle is stationary. G
WARNING
If the wind screen is not correctly engaged, it
may break free and thus obstruct traffic
behind you or lead to an accident.
Each time before driving with the roof down,
check that the wind screen is properly
engaged.
! Install or remove the wind screen only
when the roof is open. You could otherwise
damage the wind screen or the vehicle
interior.
The wind screen offers protection from the
wind when driving with the roof down.
The wind screen can be installed or removed
from the driver's side or passenger side.
Perform operations involving the wind screen
preferably on the side facing away from
traffic, after you have stopped the vehicle,
paying attention to road and traffic
conditions.

X Hold wind screen 0003at an angle and slide
it with locked latch 0004in the direction of
arrow 0023into the bracket of the opposite
roll bar.
X Press wind screen 0003on the side of the
vehicle facing you downwards in the
directio nofarrow0021until it engages.
Make sure that studs 0022and latch 0024fit
into the respective brackets.
X Check whethe rwind screen 0003is fully
inserted into all four brackets and is sitting
securely.
X If this is not the case, remove wind
screen 0003again and repeat the steps

WARNING
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
when you activate the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT
feature. If there is a risk of someone becoming
trapped, stop the adjustmen
tprocedure. To
haltt he procedure:
R press the steering column adjustment
button.
R press one of the memory function position
buttons.
The steering column stops moving
immediately.
Do not keep the memory function position
button pressed as this will start the memory
function and set the steering wheel and seat
in motion.
Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle. They could open the driver's door and
thereby unintentionally activate the EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature and become trapped. G
WARNING
Let the system complete the adjustment
procedure before setting the vehicle in
motion. All steering wheel adjustment must
be completed before setting the vehicle in
motion. Driving off with the steering wheel
still adjusting could cause the driver to lose
control of the vehicle.
The EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature makes getting
in and out of your vehicle easier.
You can activate and deactivate the EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature in the on-board
computer (Y page 206).

Storing settings

WARNING
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary. You could
otherwise be distracted from the traffic
conditions by the seat moving of its own
accord, and as a result cause an accident. X
Adjust the seat electrically (Y page 96).
X On the driver's side, adjust the steering
wheel (Y page 99) and the exterior mirrors
(Y page 100).
X Press memory button Mand one of the
storage position buttons 1,2or 3within
three seconds.
The settings are stored in the selected
preset position .Atone sounds when the

automatic climate control
The following contains instructions and
recommendations to enable you to get the
most out of your automatic climate control.
R Activate climate control using the 0005and
0006 or0004 buttons. The indicator lamps
in the 0005and0006 or0004 buttons light
up.
R Set the temperature to 72 ‡ (22 †).
R Only use the "defrosting" function briefly
until the windshield is clear again. R
Only use "air-recirculation" mode briefly,
e.g. if there are unpleasant outside odors
or when in a tunnel. The windows could
otherwise fog up, since no fresh air is drawn
into the vehicle in air-recirculation mode.
R Use the ZONE function to adopt the
temperature settings on the driver's side
for the front-passenger side as well.T he
indicator lamp in the 0003button goes out.
R Use the residual heat function if you want
to heat or ventilate the vehicle interior
when the ignition is switched off. The
"residual heat" function can only be 124

Setting the air distribution
Air-conditioning system X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press one or more of the 001D,001C,
0007 buttons.
The corresponding indicator lamp lights up
briefly.
The following air distribution settings can be
selected:
0007 Directs air through the defroster vents
001C Directs the airflow through the
footwell air vents
001D Directs air through the center and side
air vents
i You can also activate several air
distribution settings simultaneously .To do
this, press multiple air distribution buttons.
The air is then directed through various
vents.
3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the 0019button repeatedly until the
desired symbol appears in the display.
The following air distribution settings can be
selected:
001D Directs air through the center and side
air vents
001C Directs the airflow through the
footwell air vents
001E Directs air through the center, side and
footwell vents
0007 Directs air through the defroster vents
0018 Directs the airflow through the
defroster, center and side air vents 20017
Directs air through the defroster and
footwell vents
0019 Directs the airflow through the
defroster, center and side air vents as
well as the footwell air vents
i Regardless of the air distribution setting,
airflow is always directed through the side
air vents. You can only close the side air
vents, by fully closing the adjuster on the

Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the

clockwise or counter-clockwise

3-zone automatic climate control X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X To increase/reduce: press the001Bor
001A button. Switching the ZONE function on/off
This function is only available with 3-zone
automatic climate control.
X To switch on: press the0003button.
The indicator lamp in the 0003button lights
up. The temperature setting for the driver's
side is not adopted for the front-passenger
side.
X To switch off: press button0003.
The indicator lamp in the 0003button goes
out. The temperature setting for the
driver's side is adopted for the front-
passenger side.
