Install these updates, or else the security of your
multimedia system cannot be ensured.
A system update consists of thre e steps:
R Downloading or copying of the data requ ired
fo r installation
R Installation of the downloaded system update
R Activating the downloaded system update by
re starting the system
% An Internet connection is requ ired for online
updates. For automatic online updates, your
ve hicle must ha vea permanently ins talled
communication module.
% You can start the soTware update manually via
th e system settings. If automatic soTware
updates are activated, the system updates will
be downloaded automatically . Settings for
automatic soTware updates can also be made
in the system settings.
The multimedia system pr ovides a cor responding
message when a system update is available.

When the download of a deep system update is

When objects are unsecured or inadequately
secured, they can slip, tip over or be thro wn

The driving characteristics, as well as steering
and braking, may be greatly impaired. Overloa-
ded tyres may overheat and burst as a conse-

The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the load distribution.

Make sure that the load is secure before every
journey and at regular inter vals during a long jour-

obtained from the manufacturers of the load

When securing loads, obser vethefo llowing:
R Fill spaces between the load and the load com-
partment walls or wheel wells. Forth is pur-
pose, use rigid load securing aids, such as
ch oc ks,wo oden /xings or padding.
R Attach secured and stabilised loads in all direc-
tions.
Use the lashing points or the tie-down eyes
and guide rails in there ar compartment.
Only use lashing materials, such as lashing
nets and lashing st raps, which ha vebeen tes-
te d in accordance with cur rent standa rds (e.g.
DIN EN). Alw ays use the lashing points closest
to the load and pad sharp edges.
% You can obtain lashing material tested in
acco rdance with cur rent standa rds (e.g.
DIN EN) from a specialist company or from a
qu ali/ed specialist workshop.

diverse operating conditions.

When doing so, make sure that the cap

If present, check the oil le vel using the oil dip-
stick (/ page 226). #
Inthe case of vehicles without an oil dipstic k,
ch eck the oil le vel with the on-board computer
aTer the next journey (/ page 225).
It is necessary torunth e engine for an extended
period aTer each oil top up tocor rectly de tect the
oil le vel.Fill le velch anges during oil top ups may
not be immediately visible. Depending on the driv-
ing pro/le, the new oil le vel can only be displa yed
aTer a driving time of up to60 minutes.

antifreeze
If antifreeze comes into contact with hot com-
ponent parts in the engine compartment, it
may ignite. #
Allow the engine tocool down before you
to p up the antifreeze. #
Make sure that no antif reeze spills out
next tothe /ller opening. #
Thoroughly clean the antifreeze from
component parts before starting the
ve hicle. &

ARNING Risk of scalding from hot cool-
ant
If yo u open the cap, you could be scalded. #
Letthe mo tor cool down before opening
th e cap. #
When opening the cap, wear pr otective
glo ves and saf ety glasses. #
Open the cap slo wlytorelease pressure. Check and
top up the coolant only when theve hi-
cle is stationary and in a horizontal position and
th e engine has cooled down. The coolant temp era-
ture must be below 50°C. &

nent parts in the engine compartment
Cer tain component parts in the engine com-
partment can be very hot, e.g. the engine, the
cooler and parts of theex haust system. #
Allow the engine tocool down and only
