cont ext of repair and maintenance workor for
re ading out vehicle data bya specialist workshop.
Diagnostic devices should therefore only be con‐

This integration allow sth e use of selected smart‐
phone apps, such as navigation or music pla yer
apps. There is no additional interaction between
th e smartphone and theve hicle, particularly
active access tovehicle data. The type of addi‐
tional data processing is de term ined bythe pro‐
vider of the app being used. Which settings you
can make, if an y,depends on the specific app
and the operating sy stem of your smartphone. Online services
Wire
less network connection
If yo ur vehicle has a wireless network connection,
data can be exchanged between your vehicle and
ot her sy stems. The wireless network connection
is made possible bytheve hicle's own transmitter
and receiver or bya mobile end device that you
ha ve brought into theve hicle, forex ample, a
smartphone. Online functions can be used via
th is wireless network connection. This includes
online services and applications/apps pr ovided
to yo uby the manufacturer or by other pr oviders.
Manu factu rer's own services
Re garding the manufacturer's online services, the
individual functions are described bythe manu‐
fa cturer in a sui table place, forex ample, in the
Operating Instructions or on the manufacturer's
we bsite, where there leva nt da taprotection infor‐
mation is also given. Personal identification data
may be used toprov ide online services. Data is
exc hanged via a secure connection, e.g. the man‐
ufacturer's designated IT sy stems. Any personal
data which are collected, processed and used,
ot her than forth e pr ovision of services, is done
so exc lusively on the basis of legal permission.
This is the case, forex ample, for a legally prescri‐
bed emergency call sy stem, a cont ractual agree‐
ment or when consent has been given.
Yo u can ha veservices and functions, some of
which are subject toafe e, activated or deactiva‐
te d. This excludes legally prescribed functions
and services, such as an emer gency call sy stem.
Services of third parties
If yo u use online services from other pr oviders
(third parties), these services are there sponsibil‐
ity of the pr ovider in question and subject tothat
pr ov ider's data pr otection conditions and terms
of use. As a general rule, the manufacturer has
no influence on the content exchanged. Fo
rth is reason, when services are pr ovided by

The restra int sy stem can help pr eventtheve hicle
occupants from coming into contact with parts of
th eve hicle interior in theeve nt of an accident. In
th eeve nt of an accident, there stra int sy stem can
also reduce thefo rc es towhich theve hicle occu‐
pants are subjected.
Only a seat belt which is worncor rectly can pro‐
vide the intended le vel of pr otection. Depending
on the de tected accident situation, seat belt ten‐
sioners and/or airbags supplement the pr otec‐
tion of fere dby a cor rectly wornseat belt. Seat
belt tensioners and/or airbags are not depl oyed
in eve ryaccident.
In order forth ere stra int sy stem toprov ide the
intended le vel of pr otection, each vehicle occu‐
pant must obser vethefo llowing information:
R Fasten seat belts cor rectl y.
R Sit in an almost up right seat position with
th eir back against the seat backrest.
R Sit with their feet resting on thefloor, if possi‐
ble.
R Always secure persons under 1.50 m ta ll in
an additional restra int sy stem suitable for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Ho wever,no sy stem available today can com‐
ple tely eliminate injuries and fata lities in every
accident situation. In particular, the seat belt and
airbag general lydo not pr otect against objects
penetrating theve hicle from the outside. It is also
not possible tocomple tely rule out therisk of
injury caused bythe airbag deploying. Limited pr

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you on lyuse
driving aids which ha vebeen appr oved specifi‐
cally foryo ur vehicle byMercedes-Benz. Re
stra int sy stem functionality When
the ignition is switched on, a self-test is
per form ed, during which the0075 restra int sys‐
te m wa rning lamp lights up. It goes out no later
th an a few seconds af terth eve hicle is star ted.
The components of there stra int sy stem are then
functional. Re
stra int sy stem malfunction A malfunction has occur
red in there stra int sys‐
te m in thefo llowing cases:
R The 0075 restra int sy stem warning lamp does
not light up when the ignition is switched on.
R The 0075 restra int sy stem warning lamp
lights up continuously or repeatedly during a
journe y. &

Components in there stra int sy stem may be
activated unintentionally or not deploy as
intended in an accident. #

Avoid wearing bulky clo thing, e.g. a winter
coat.
R Push the lap belt down as far as possible
across your hips and pull tight with the shoul‐
der section of the belt. Ne verro ute the lap
belt across your abdomen.
Pregnant women must also take particular
care with this.
R Neverro ute the seat belt across sharp, poin‐
te d, abrasive or fragile objects.
R Only one person should use each seat belt at
any one time. Infants and children must ne ver
tr ave l sitting on the lap of a vehicle occupant.
R Never secure objects with a seat belt if the
seat belt is being used byone of theve hicle's
occupants. Alw ays obser vethe instructions
fo r loading theve hicle when securing objects,
luggage or loads (/ page212).

are ever placed between a person and the
seat.

Always ensure that the seat backrest is
in an almost vertical position and that
th e shoulder section of your seat belt is
ro uted across the cent reofyour shoul‐

fo r persons with a smaller stature
Pe rsons under 1.50 m tall cannot wearthe
seat belt cor rectly wi thout a suitable addi‐
tional restra int sy stem. #

damaged or modified seat belts
Seat belts cann otprov ide pr otection in the
fo llowing situations:
R the seat belt is damaged, has been modi‐
fi ed, is extremely di rty, bleached or dyed
R the seat belt buckle is damaged or
ex treme lydirty
R modifications ha vebeen made tothe seat
belt tensioner, seat belt anchorage or seat
belt retractor
Seat belts may su stain non-visible damage in
an accident, e.g. due toglass splin ters.
Modified or damaged seat belts could tear or
fa il in theeve nt of an accident, forex ample.
Modified seat belt tensioners could acciden‐
ta lly trigger or failto function as intended. #
Never modify the seat belt sy stem, for
ex ample the seat belt, seat belt buckle,
seat belt tensioner, seat belt anchorage
and seat belt retractor. #
Makesure that the seat belts are
undamaged, not wornand clean. #
Always ha vethe seat belts checked
immediately af ter an accident at a quali‐

ers
Py rotech nic seat belt tensioners that ha ve
been deplo yed are no longer operational and
are unable toper form their intended pr otec‐
tive function. #

re placed at a qualified specialist work‐

the accident situation, an airbag
may supplement the pr otection of fere dby a cor‐
re ctly fastened seat belt. &
WARNING Risk of injury or death dueto
an incor rect seat position
If yo u deviate from the cor rect seat position,
th e airbag cann otper form its intended pro‐
te ctive function.
Each vehicle occupant must make sure of the
fo llowing:
R Fasten seat belts cor rectly. Pregnant
wo men must take particular care to
ensure that the lap belt ne ver lies across
th e abdomen.
R Adopt the cor rect seat position and keep
as faraw ay as possible from the airbags.
R Obser vethefo llowing information. #
Always make sure that there are no
objects between the airbag and vehicle
occupant. To
avo idtherisks resulting from the deployment
of an airbag, each vehicle occupant must obser ve
th efo llowing information in particular:
R Before starting your journe y,adjust your seat
cor rectl y;bo th th e driver's and co-driver seat
should be mo ved as far back as possible.
When doing so, alw ays obser vethe informa‐
tion on the cor rect driver's seat position
(/ page 69).
R Only hold thesteering wheel bythesteering
wheel rim. This allows the airbag tobe fully
deplo yed.
R Always lean against the seat backrest when
th eve hicle is in motion. Do not lean forw ards
or against the door or side windo w.You may
ot herwise be in the deployment area of the
airbags.
R Alwayske ep your feet on thefloor. Do not put
yo ur feet on the cockpit, forex ample. Your
fe et may otherwise be in the deployment area
of the airbag.
R Ifch ildren are tr avelling in theve hicle,
obser vethe additional no tes (/ page37).
R Alwaysstow and secure objects cor rectly. Objects in
theve hicle interior may pr event an air‐
bag from functioning cor rectl y.Each vehicle
occupant must alw ays make sure of thefo llowing
in particular:
R There are no people, animals or objects
between theve hicle occupants and an airbag.
R There are no objects between the seat, door
and door pillar (B-pillar).
R There are no hard objects, e.g. coat hangers,
hanging on the grab handles or coat hooks.
R There are no accessory parts, such as mobile
navigation devices, mobile phones or cup
holders, attached totheve hicle within the
deployment area of an airbag, e.g. on the
cockpit, on the door, on the side window or
on the side trim.
In addition, no connecting cables, tensioning
st ra ps or retaining stra ps must be routed or
attached totheve hicle within the deployment
area of an airbag. Alw ays comply with the
accesso rymanufacturer's ins tallation instruc‐
tions and, in particular, the no tes on suitable
places for ins tallation.
R There are no heavy, sharp-edged or fragile
objects in the poc kets of your clo thing. Store
such objects in a suitable place. Limited pr
otection pr ovided byairbags &
WARNING Risk of injury duetomodifica‐
tions tothe co ver of an airbag
If yo u modify the co ver of an airbag or af fix
objects such as sticke rs to it,the airbag may
no longer function cor rectl y. #
Never modify the co ver of an airbag and
do not af fix objects toit. An airbag's ins
tallation location is identified by
th e label AIRB AG (/page 31). &

th e use of unsuitable seat co vers
Due tounsuitable seat co vers,th e airbags
cann otprotect vehicle occupants as inten‐
ded.
In addition, the operation of the automatic
front passenger airbag shutoff could be

Af terfitting a rear wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem tothe co-d rive r seat: PASSENGER AIR
BA G OFF must be lit continuousl y.&
WARNING Risk of injury or death when
using a rear wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem while the front passenger airbag
is enabled
If yo u secure a child in a rear wa rd-facing child
re stra int sy stem on the front passenger seat
and thePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp is off, the front passenger airbag can
deploy in theeve nt of an accident.
The child could be stru ck bythe airbag. #
Always ensure that the front passenger
airbag is disabled. The PASSENGER AIR
BA G OFF indicator lamp must be lit. #
NEVER use a rear wa rd-facing child
re stra int sy stem on a seat with an ENA‐
BLED FRONT AIRB AG. This can result in
th e DEAT H of or SERIOUS INJURY tothe
CH ILD. When
fitting a child restra int sy stem tothe co-
driver seat, obser vetheve hicle-specific informa‐
tion (/ page 46).
Depending on thech ild restra int sy stem and the
st ature of thech ild, thePA SSENGER AIR BAG
OFF indicator lamp may be off. In this case, do
not fit th ere ar wa rd-facing child restra int sy stem
to the co-driver seat.
Ins tead, fit th ere ar wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem toa suitable rear seat.
Af terfitting a forw ard-facing child restra int
sy stem tothe co-d rive r seat: depending on the
ch ild restra int sy stem and thest ature of the
ch ild, PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF may be lit con‐
tinuously or be off. Alw ays obser vethefo llowing
information. &
WARNING Risk of injury or death dueto
incor rect positioning of thefo rw ard-
fa cing child restra int sy stem
If yo u secure a child in a forw ard-facing child
re stra int sy stem on the front passenger seat
th at is positioned too close tothe cockpit, in
th eev ent of an accident, thech ild could:
R come into con tact with th eve hicle interior
if th ePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp is lit, forex ample
R bestru ck bythe airbag if thePA SSENGER
AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp is off. #
Always mo vethe front passenger seat
as far back as possible and fully retract
th e seat cushion length adjustment.
While doing so, alw ays make sure that
th e shoulder belt stra p is cor rectly
ro uted from the seat belt outlet of the
ve hicle tothe shoulder belt guide on the
ch ild restra int sy stem. The shoulder belt
st ra p must be routed forw ards and
down wards fr omthe seat belt outlet. If
necessar y,adjust the seat belt outlet
and the front passenger seat accord‐
ingly. #
Always comply with thech ild restra int
sy stem manufacturer's ins tallation
instructions. When
fitting a child restra int sy stem tothe co-
driver seat, obser vetheve hicle-specific informa‐
tion (/ page 46).
If a person is sitting on the co-d rive r seat:
PA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF may be lit continuously
or be off, depending on the person's stature.
A person on the co-driver seat must alw ays
obser vethefo llowing information:
R Ifth e co-driver seat is occupied byan adult or
a person with a stature cor responding tothat
of an adult, thePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF
indicator lamp must be off. This indicates that
th e co-driver airbag is enabled.
If th ePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp is lit continuousl y,an adult or person
with a build cor responding tothat of an adult
should not use the co-driver seat.
Ins tead, they should use a rear seat.
R Ifth e co-driver seat is occupied bya person
of smaller stature (e.g. a teenager or small
adult), thePA SSENGER AIR BAG OFF indica‐
to r lamp either lights up continuously or Occupant saf

When securing a child with the integrated seat
belt of the ISOFIX child restra int sy stem, alw ays
comply wi th the permissible gross weight forthe
ch ild and child restra int sy stem (/ page 42).
Ad vantage of a rear wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem
It is preferable totranspo rta baby or a small
ch ild in a suitable rear wa rd-facing child restra int
sy stem. In this case, thech ild sits in the opposite
direction tothe direction of tra vel and faces
ba ckwa rds.

we ight of their head. The risk of injury tothe cer‐
