Operating hints
l To prevent the clutch from slipping (Ve-
hicle with a M/T only), do not rev the
engine more than is required when start- ing off.
l Be sure that the driving speed does not
exceed 100 km/h (62 mph) for trailer op-
eration. It is also recommended that you obey the local regulations in case driving
speed with a trailer is limited to less than
100 km/h (62 mph).
l To prevent shocks from the overrun
brake, depress the brake pedal lightly at first and then more strongly.
l To make full use of engine braking,
change to a lower shift point before de- scending a slope.
Additional precautions for vehi- cles equipped with an A/T orCVT
It is recommended the “D” position on slopes
or at low speed.
Use the sports mode in mountainous areas in order to make better use of engine braking
and to assist the brake system.
However, be sure that the speed does not ex-
ceed the maximum speed limit for the selec-ted shift position.

Overheating
This will normally occur as a result of some
mechanical failure. If your vehicle should overheat, stop and check for a loose or bro-ken water pump/alternator drive belt, a
blocked radiator air intake or a low coolant level. If these items are satisfactory the over-
heating could be caused by a number of me-
chanical causes that would have to be
checked at a competent service centre.
CAUTIONl If the engine overheats, please refer to the
“Engine overheating” section of “For emer-
gencies” prior to taking any corrective ac- tion.
l On vehicles equipped with
A/T, CVT, if the
warning display is showing, the tempera-
ture of the automatic transmission fluid,
CVT fluid is high.
Read the reference page and take the re- quired measures.
Refer to “When a malfunction occurs in the
A/T” on page 6-29, “When a malfunction
occurs in the CVT” on page 6-35.

CAUTIONl When using the mode selection dial between

NOTElWhile the engine coolant temperature is low,
the temperature of the air from the heaterwill be cool/cold until the engine warms up, even if you have selected warm air with the
dial.
l On vehicles with the automatic air condi-
tioning, when the temperature is set to the highest or the lowest setting under the AU-
TO operation, the air selection and the air
conditioning will be automatically changed as follows.
• Quick Heating (When the temperature is
set to the highest setting)
Outside air will be introduced and the air
conditioning will stop.
• Quick Cooling (When the temperature is
set to the lowest setting)
Inside air will be recirculated and the air
conditioning will operate.
The settings described above are the factory
settings. The air selection and air condition-
ing switches can be customized (function set-
ting changed), and the automatic switching of outside air and the air conditioning according
to operating conditions can be changed as de- sired.
For further information, we recommend you to consult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Au-
thorized Service Point.

Outside air is introduced into the passen-
ger compartment.

CAUTIONl Normally, use the outside position to keep
the windscreen and side windows clear and quickly remove fog or frost from the wind- screen.
If high cooling performance is desired, or if
the outside air is dusty or otherwise contami- nated use the recirculation position. Switch
to the outside position periodically to in- crease ventilation so that the windows do notbecome fogged up.
l Use of the recirculation position for exten-
ded time may cause the windows to fog up.NOTEl On vehicles with the heater and the manual
air conditioning, when the system operateswith the selection switch in the outside posi- tion, the system automatically determines
whether to continue using outside air or to
perform recirculation. If the outside air tem-
perature is high, the system selects recircula- tion and causes the indication lamp (A) in
the switch to illuminate (for vehicles with the manual air conditioning, the system se-
lects recirculation to achieve rapid cooling). Press the selection switch to return to out-
side air introduction.

NOTElOn vehicles with the automatic air condi-
tioning, when the mode selection dial or the
blower speed selection dial is set to the “AUTO” position again after manual opera-tion, the air selection dial will also be auto- matically controlled.
l On vehicles with the automatic air condi-
tioning, when the engine coolant tempera-
ture rises to a certain level, the air selection is automatically switched to the recirculation
position and the indication lamp (A) comes on. At this time, the system will not switch
to the outside position even if the air selec-
tion switch is pushed.Customizing the air selection

Functions can be changed as desired, as sta-
ted below.
l Enable automatic air control
• Heater/Manual air conditioning: When the system operates, the air se-
lection switch will be automatically controlled.
• Automatic air conditioning: When the mode selection dial or
blower speed selection dial is turned
to the “AUTO” position, the air selec-
tion switch is also controlled automat- ically.
l Disable automatic air control
• Heater/Manual air conditioning:
Even when the system operates, theair selection switch will not be auto-
matically controlled.
• Automatic air conditioning: Even when the mode selection dial orblower speed selection dial is turned
to the “AUTO” position, the air selec-
tion switch is not controlled automati- cally.
l Setting change method
Hold down the air selection switch for about 10 seconds or more.
When the setting is changed, a sound is
emitted and the indication lamp flashes. • When the setting is changed from ena-
ble to disable 3 sounds are emitted and
the indication lamp flashes 3 times.
• When the setting is changed from dis-
able to enable 2 sounds are emitted and the indication lamp flashes 3times.NOTEl The factory setting is “Enable automatic air
control.”
l When the mode selection dial is turned to
“
”, in order to prevent misting of the
windows the ventilator automatically switches to outside air even if “Disable auto-matic air control” is set.

Automatic mode (Automatic airconditioning)

In normal conditions, use the system in the
AUTO mode and follow these procedures: 1. Set the blower speed selection dial to the
“AUTO” position.
2. Set the temperature control dial to the
desired temperature.
3. Set the mode selection dial to the “AU-
TO” position.
The outlet position (except “
”), recircula-
tion/outside air select and blower speed, and ON/OFF of air conditioning will be control- led automatically.
To stop the system, turn the blower speed se- lection dial to the “OFF” position.
CAUTIONl When using the air conditioning, the idling

tioning compressor is switched on/off auto- matically. While the vehicle with an A/T or

function of automatic control. All other
functions remain under automatic control.

Blower speed and ventilator mode may be
controlled manually by setting the blower speed selection dial and the mode selection
dial to the desired positions. To return to au-
tomatic operation, set the dials to the “AU- TO” position.

the temperature control dial to the max. cool position. Cool air will blow against the win-
dow glasses and prevent demisting.
l For vehicles with the Auto Stop & Go
(AS&G) system, if the mode selection dial is
set to the demister position shown in the il- lustration, the Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) sys- tem will not operate and the engine will notstop automatically even if the vehicle is stopped. This is to ensure that good visibility
is maintained.

An air filter has been incorporated into the air conditioning so that pollen and dust are
cleaned from the air.
Replace the air filter periodically as its ability
to clean the air will be reduced as it collects pollen and dirt. For the maintenance interval,
refer to the “SERVICE BOOKLET”.NOTEl Operation in certain conditions such as driv-
ing on a dusty road and frequent use of the air conditioning can lead to reduction of
service life of the filter. When you feel that the air flow is lower than normal or when the windscreen or windows start to fog up
easily, replace the air filter.

The audio system can only be used when theignition switch or the operation mode is in
ON or ACC.
NOTEl To listen to the audio system while the en-
gine is not running, turn the ignition switch
to the “ACC” position or put the operation mode in ACC.
If the ignition switch or the operation mode is left in ACC, the accessory power will au-
tomatically turn off after a certain period of time and you will no longer be able to usethe audio system. The accessory power
comes on again if the ignition switch or the engine switch is operated with it in the“ACC” position. Refer to “ACC power auto-
cutout function” on pages 3-14 and 6-12.
l If a cellular phone is used inside the vehicle,
it may create noise from the audio equip-
ment. This does not mean that anything is wrong with your audio equipment. In such acase, use the cellular phone at a place as far
away as possible from the audio equipment.
l If foreign objects or water get into the audio
equipment, or if smoke or a strange odour comes from it, immediately turn off the au-
dio system. We recommend you to have it checked. Never try to repair it by yourself.
Avoid continuous usage without inspection

ognized, or playback starts.

while iPod/iPhone is connected.

l Depending on audio data in the iPod/iPhone,
track information may not be displayed cor-
rectly.
l Depending on the status of the vehicle and
device, the iPod/iPhone may not play back after starting the engine.
l Data containing copyright information may

l It is recommended that the iPod/iPhone
equaliser settings be set to flat.
l Operate the iPod/iPhone while connected to
this product.
l If the iPod/iPhone is connected via Blue-
tooth as a Bluetooth- capable audio device,
then do not connect the iPod/iPhone using
an iPod cable. Connection using both meth- ods will result in erroneous operation.
l If an iPod/iPhone does not operate correctly,
then remove the iPod/iPhone from the prod-
uct, reset, then reconnect.
Play iPod
Press the MEDIA key to set the iPod as the
source.

The selected source is indicated on the dis-
play.
Select the Track (File)
Press the key or key to select the
track.

This enables selection of the next or previous
track.
Fast Forward or Rewind
Hold down the 3 key or the 4 key.

Fast forward/rewind is possible.
Switch Playback Mode
Repeat playback and shuffle playback are
possible.
Repeat Playback (RPT)
Press the 1RPT key.

Repeat playback of the track currently being played.
NOTEl Pressing again will cancel.Shuffle Playback (RDM)
Press the 2RDM key.

Play tracks in the category currently being played in a random order.

Album Shuffle Playback
Hold down the 2RDM key.

Play back the album in a random order

Search categories or track names, and select a

devices such as USB memory to this product, you can play back audio files on these
through the product.
CAUTIONl Do not leave the USB device unattended in
the vehicle.
l Never hold these devices in your hand to op-
erate while driving, as this is dangerous.
l Do not use hard discs, card readers, or mem-
ory readers, as damage may occur to these or
to the data contained therein. If these are er- roneously connected, then turn the engine
ignition “OFF”, then remove.
l Because of the risk of data loss, it is recom-
mended that files be backed up.
l No guarantee is made as regards damage to
the USB device, nor regarding loss or dam- age to data contained therein.
l Depending on how the devices are handled,
audio files being damaged or lost, therefore it is recommended that data be backed up.NOTEl Regarding details such as types of USB de-
vices that can be connected, and USB input ports, refer to “Device types” on page 7-68.
l Regarding details of types of files that can
be played back in equipment by type (vehi-
cles with a Bluetooth ®
2.0 interface), refer to
