Petrol-powered vehicles Unleaded petrol octanenumber (EN228) 1600 models, 1800 mod-
els 95 RON or higher
2000 models 90 RON or higher
Diesel-powered vehicles Cetane number (EN590)51 or higherCAUTIONl For petrol-powered vehicles, the use of lea-
ded fuel can result in serious damage to the engine and catalytic converter. Do not use leaded fuel.
l Diesel-powered vehicles are designed to use
only diesel fuel that meets the EN590 stand-
ard.
Use of any other type of diesel fuel (bio die-
sel, methylester, etc.) would adversely affect the engine’s performance and durability.NOTEl Petrol-powered vehicles have the knock con-
trol system so that you can use unleaded pet-
rol 90 RON as an emergent measure in case unleaded petrol 95 RON or higher is notavailable on journey, etc.
In such a case, you don’t need to adjust the
engine specially. In case of using unleaded petrol 90 RON, the engine performance lev-
el is reduced.
l For diesel fuel, due to the separation of par-
affin, the fluidity of the fuel decreases con- siderably as the temperature falls.
Because of this fact there are two kinds of
fuel: “summer” and “winter”.
This must be considered in winter use.
Select either of the two kinds of fuel in ac- cordance with ambient temperature. Above -5 °C: “Summer” diesel
Below -5 °C: “Winter” diesel
When travelling abroad, find out in advance
about the fuels served in local service sta- tions.NOTEl Repeatedly driving short distances at low
speeds can cause deposits to form in the fuel system and engine, resulting in poor starting
and poor acceleration. If these problems oc-
cur, you are advised to add a detergent addi- tive to the gasoline when you refuel the ve- hicle. The additive will remove the deposits, thereby returning the engine to a normal
condition. Be sure to use a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS GENUINE FUEL SYSTEM
CLEANER. Using an unsuitable additive
could make the engine malfunction. For de- tails, please contact a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
l Poor quality petrol can cause problems such
as difficult starting, stalling, engine noise
and hesitation. If you experience these prob- lems, try another brand and/or grade of pet-
rol.
If the check engine warning lamp flashes,
have the system checked as soon as possible at a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized
Service Point.E10 type petrol

Turbocharger
The turbocharger increases engine power by
pushing large amounts of air into the engine’s
cylinders. The finned parts inside the turbo-
charger turn at extremely high speeds and are subjected to extremely high temperatures. They are lubricated and cooled by engine oil.
If the engine oil is not replaced at the speci-
fied intervals, the bearings may seize or emit abnormal noise.

Auto Stop & Go (AS&G)
system* E00627400035
The Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system auto- matically stops and restarts the engine with- out operating the ignition switch or the en-gine switch when the vehicle is stopped, such
as at a traffic light or in a traffic jam, to re- duce exhaust gases and increase fuel efficien- cy.CAUTIONl If the vehicle will be stopped for a long time
or if you will leave the vehicle unattended,
turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” posi-
tion and press the engine switch to stop the
engine.Automatically stopping the en-
gine
E00627501150
The Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system is auto- matically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the opera-
tion mode is put in ON.
You can deactivate the system by pressing the “Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) OFF” switch.
Refer to “To deactivate” on page 6-22. 1. Stop the vehicle. While depressing the brake pedal, fullydepress the clutch pedal and place the
gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) posi-
tion.Vehicles with 5M/T Vehicles with 6M/T
2. Release the clutch pedal. The “” dis-
play/indicator will turn on and the en- gine will stop automatically.

CAUTIONl Handle halogen lamp bulbs with care. The
gas inside halogen lamp bulbs is highly pres- surized, so dropping, knocking, or scratching
a halogen lamp bulb can cause it to shatter.
l Never hold the halogen lamp bulb with a
bare hand, dirty glove, etc.
The oil from your hand could cause the bulb to break the next time the headlamps are op-
erated.
If the glass surface is dirty, it must be cleaned with alcohol, paint thinner, etc., and
refit it after drying it thoroughly.Position lamps (type 1)*
