Operation of the Dead Lock
System*
With a vehicle that has a Dead Lock System, it is possible to set the Dead Lock System by
pressing the LOCK switch (1) two times.
Refer to “Dead Lock System*” on page 3-18 for details.
Operation of the outside rear-
view mirrors (Vehicles equip- ped with mirror retractor
switch)

To fold
Locking the doors using the LOCK switch
(1), the outside rear-view mirrors are folded
automatically.
To extend
Unlocking the doors using the UNLOCK
switch (2), the outside rear-view mirrors are
extended automatically.
NOTEl Functions can be modified as stated below.

Authorized Service Point.
• Automatically extend when the driver’s
door is closed, and then the following op- eration is performed.
[Except vehicles equipped with keyless operation system]
Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” or
“ACC” position.
[Vehicles equipped with keyless operation
system]
Put the operation mode in ON or ACC.
• Automatically retract when the ignition
switch is turned to the “LOCK” position
or the operation mode is put in OFF, and the driver’s door is then opened.
• Automatically extend when the vehicle
speed reaches 30 km/h. NOTE• Deactivate the automatic extension func-
tion.

The outside rear-view mirrors can be fol-
ded or extended by the following opera-
tions, even if changing to any of the above.
After pressing the “LOCK” switch to lock
the doors, if the “LOCK” switch is press- ed again twice in a row within about 30
seconds, the outside rear-view mirrors will retract.
After pressing the “UNLOCK” switch to
unlock the doors, if the “UNLOCK”
switch is pressed again twice in a row within about 30 seconds, the outside rear-
view mirrors will extend again.
l The keyless entry system does not operate in
the following conditions:
• The key is left in the ignition switch. (ex-
cept for vehicles with keyless operation system)
• The operation mode is not in OFF. (vehi-
cles with keyless operation system)
• The door is open.
l The key switch will operate within approxi-
mately 4 m from the vehicle. However, the operating range of the key switch may
change if the vehicle is located near a TV
transmitting tower, power station, or radio
broadcasting station.
l If either of the following problems occurs,
the battery may be exhausted.

Emergency key

The emergency key (A) can only be used to lock and unlock the door. To use the emer-
gency key, unlock the lock knob (B) and re- move it from the keyless operation key (C).
NOTEl Only use the emergency key for emergen-
cies. If the keyless operation key batterywears out, replace it as quickly as possible
so that you can use the keyless operation
key.
l The emergency key is built in the keyless
operation key.
l After using the emergency key, always re-
turn it into the original position.Locking and unlocking the door
Turning the emergency key in the forward di-
rection locks the door, and turning it in the rear direction unlocks the door. Also refer to
“Locking and unlocking: Doors” on page 3-15.

For vehicles equipped with the Dead Lock System, it is possible to set the Dead Lock
System using the driver’s or front passen- ger’s door lock/unlock switch.

WARNINGlIf any of the check results are not normal,
the red lamp illuminates (for approxi- mately 5 seconds) and the buzzer sounds 3times. In this case, there is a possible fail-
ure in the system. Have the system inspec- ted by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Au-
thorized Service Point immediately.
6. When the green lamp extinguishes, the
test mode is completed.
If the vehicle breaks down

If the vehicle breaks down on the road, moveit to the shoulder and use the hazard warning
flashers and/or the warning triangle etc.
Refer to “Hazard warning flasher switch” on page 5-21.
If the engine stops/fails
Vehicle operation and control are affected if
the engine stops. Before moving the vehicle to a safe area, be aware of the following:
l The brake booster becomes inoperative
and the pedal effort will increase. Press
down the brake pedal harder than usual.
l Since the power steering system is no
longer operative, the steering wheel feels heavy when turning it.

If the operation mode cannot be changed to OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P”
(PARK) position, and then change the operation mode to OFF. (For vehicles with A/T)
2. One of the other causes could be low
battery voltage. If this occurs, the key-
less entry system, keyless operation
function and steering lock will also not operate. Contact a MITSUBISHI

If the engine cannot be started because thebattery is weak or dead, the battery from an-other vehicle can be used with jumper cables to start the engine.
WARNINGl To start the engine using jumper cables
connected from another vehicle, perform
the correct procedures according to the instruction below. Incorrect procedures could result in a fire or explosion or dam-
age to the vehicles.
l Keep sparks, cigarettes and flames away
from the battery because the battery may produce an explosion.CAUTIONl Do not attempt to start the engine by pulling
or pushing the vehicle.
It could damage your vehicle.
l Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12-
volt battery.
If the other system isn’t 12-volt, shorting can
damage both vehicles.
l Use the proper cables suitable for the battery
size to prevent overheating of the cables.
l Check the jumper cables for damage and
corrosion before use.
l Always wear protective eye goggles when
working near the battery.
l Keep the battery out of the reach of children.

Get the vehicles close enough so the
jumper cables can reach, but be sure the vehicles aren’t touching each other.
2. Turn off all lamps, heater and other elec-
trical loads.

Chrome parts

In order to prevent spots and corrosion of
chrome parts, wash with water, dry thorough- ly, and apply a special protective coating.
This should be done more frequently in win- ter.
Aluminium wheels*

1. Remove dirt using a sponge while sprin-
kling water on the wheel.
2. Use neutral detergent on any dirt that
cannot be removed easily with water.
Rinse off the neutral detergent after
washing the wheel.
3. Dry the wheel thoroughly using a cha-
mois leather or a soft cloth.
CAUTIONl Do not use a brush or other hard implement
on the wheels.
Doing so could scratch the wheels.
l Do not use any cleaner that contains an abra-
sive substance or is acidic or alkaline. Doingso could cause the coating on the wheels topeel or become discoloured or stained.
l Do not directly apply hot water using a
steam cleaner or by any other means.
l Contact with seawater and road deicer can
cause corrosion. Rinse off such substances
as soon as possible.Window glass

The window glass can normally be cleaned
using only a sponge and water.
Glass cleaner can be used to remove oil, grease, dead insects, etc. After washing the
glass, wipe dry with a clean, dry, soft cloth. Never use a cloth that is used for cleaning a
painted surface to clean a window. Wax from
the painted surface could get on the glass and lower glass transparency and visibility.
NOTEl To clean the inside of the rear window, al-
ways use a soft cloth and wipe the window
glass along the demister heater element so as not to cause damage.Wiper blades

Use a soft cloth and glass cleaner to remove
grease, insect carcasses, etc., from the wiper blades. Replace the wiper blades when they
no longer wipe properly. (Refer to page 10-15.)
Engine compartment

Clean the engine compartment at the begin-
ning and end of winter. Pay particular atten- tion to flanges, crevices and peripheral parts where dust containing road chemicals and
other corrosive materials might collect.
If salt and other chemicals are used on the roads in your area, clean the engine compart- ment at least every three months.
Never spray or splash water on the electrical
components in the engine compartment, as
this may cause damage.
Do not bring the nearby parts, the plastic parts and so on into contact with sulphuric
acid (battery electrolyte) which may crack,
stain or discolour them.
If they are in contact, wipe off with soft cloth, chamois or the like and an aqueous sol-
ution of neutral detergent then immediately rinse the affected parts with plenty of water.
