The emergency key is built into the F.A.S.T.- key. When the F.A.S.T.-key cannot be used, such as when the battery of the F.A.S.T.-key or thevehicle has run down, the emergency key can be used to lock and unlock the driver’s door and to start the engine. To use the emergency key (1), unlock the lock knob (2) and remove it from the F.A.S.T.-key (3).

1. [For vehicles with manual transaxle] Push the emergency key in at the “ACC”position and keep it
depressed until it is
turned to the “LOCK” position, and remove.[For vehicles with Twin Clutch SST (sportronic shift transmission)] First, set the gearshift lever to the “P”(PARK) position, and then slowly turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position while pressing it.
2. Install the cover of the ignition switch. 3. Reinsert the emergency key into the F. A . S . T. - k e y.
Steering wheel lock
NOTE
 When the ignition switch cannot be turned from the “LOCK” position to the “ACC” position, turn the ignition switch while turn- ing the steering wheel in both directions.
To turn from “ACC” to “LOCK”
NOTE
 For vehicles with Twin Clutch SST, the emergency key cannot be removed unless the gearshift lever is set to the “P” (PARK) posi-tion.NOTE
 Always install the cover of the ignition switch when not using the emergency key. Not doing so could cause damage if foreign material such as dust gets into the keyhole ofthe ignition switch.
CAUTION Do not turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position while the vehicle is moving. This will cause the steering wheel to lock, making it impossible to operate the vehicle.  If the engine is stopped while driving, the power brake booster will stop functioning and greater effort for braking will berequired. Also, the power steering system will not function and it will require greater effort to manually steer the vehicle. Do not leave the ignition switch in the “ON” or “ACC” position for a long time when theengine is not running. The battery will run down. Do not turn the ignition switch to the “START” position when the engine is run- ning. It will damage the starter motor.

2. While pushing the lock release buttons (A), remove the cover of the ignition switch. 3. Insert the emergency key into the ignition switch. 4. Insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key.
5. Press and hold the brake pedal down with your right foot. 6. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the waydown (manual transaxle). 7. On vehicles with manual transaxle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position.On vehicles with SST, make sure the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position.
8. Turn the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key to the “ON” position andmake certain that all warning lights and warning displays are functioning properly before starting the engine.9. Turn the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key to the “START” position without pressing the accelerator pedal.Release the emergency key with the F.A.S.T.-key when the engine starts.
10. Remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emer-
gency key.
NOTE
 For models equipped with a manual trans- axle, the starter will not operate unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed (Clutch inter-lock). This is a safety feature.

 On vehicles with Twin Clutch SST, the starter will not operate unless the gearshift lever is in the “P” (P

After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rear window defogger, are turned off.
2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with Twin Clutch SST or the clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, press the accelera-tor pedal halfway and hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. The electronic immobilizer is designed to sig-nificantly reduce the possibility of vehicle theft. The purpose of the system is to immo- bilize the vehicle if an invalid start isattempted. A valid start attempt can only be achieved (subject to certain conditions) using a F.A.S.T.-Key “registered” to the immobi-lizer system.
WA R N I N G Make sure to remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emergency key after the engine is started. If not removed, the F.A.S.T.-key could fall to the floor, which could disturb the pedaloperation. Furthermore, the F.A.S.T.-key could prevent the driver’s knee airbag from inflating normally or could be pro-pelled to cause serious injury if the airbag inflates.NOTE
 If the emergency key is attached to a key ring, it may become impossible to insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key, and it may prevent the engine from being started.When using the emergency key to start the engine, first remove the key from the key ring.

 If the sunroof does not operate when the sun- roof switch is operated, release the switch and check whether something is trapped by the sunroof. If nothing is trapped, have the sunroof checked at an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer.  Be careful when tilting
up the sunroof if a ski
carrier or a roof carrier is installed. Depend- ing on the model of ski car
rier or roof carrier,
the sunroof may contact the carrier when thesunroof is tilted up.  Be sure to close the sunroof completely when washing the vehicle or when leaving the vehicle.  Do not put any wax on the weatherstrip (black rubber) around the sunroof opening. If it is waxed, the weatherstrip cannot maintaina weatherproof seal with the sunroof.  After washing the vehicle or after rain be sure to wipe off any water that is on the sun- roof before operating it.  Operating the sunroof repeatedly with the engine turned off will run down the battery. Operate the sunroof only while the engine isrunning.NOTE
Sunshade

CAUTION Do not attempt to close the sunshade when the sunroof is opened. Be careful that hands are not trapped when closing the sunshade.NOTE
 Be sure to tilt down the sunroof before clos- ing the sunshade.
Parking brake To apply 1- Pull the lever up without pushing the
button at the end of hand grip. When the parking brake is set and the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the brake warning light in the instru-ment cluster will come on. Before driving, be sure to release the parking brake.

When parking on a hill, apply the parking brake and turn the front wheels toward thecurb on a downhill grade, away from the curb on an uphill grade.

To adjust the steering wheel height, releasethe tilt lock lever while holding the steering wheel by hand, and raise or lower the steeringwheel to the desired height. After adjustment, securely lock the lever by pulling it upward.
To release 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Press and hold the button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warning light is off. If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning display will appear onthe information screen in the multi-informa- tion display. T. - k e y ] Your vehicle is equipped with an electroni- cally controlled fuel injection system, whichautomatically controls the release of fuel. There is usually no need to depress the accel- erator pedal when starting the engine.The starter should not be run for more than15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drain, wait a few seconds between attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened. 2. Insert the ignition key. 3. Observe the following cautions when using the clutch pedal. Not observing them couldresult in rapid clutch wear or in clutch dam- age.  Press the clutch pedal all the way down while shifting gears. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way down before starting the engine.  Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal.
 On hills and other gradients, do not hold the vehicle in position by slipping the clutch without using the brakes.  Make sure the space under the clutch pedal is free of objects that could obstruct the pedal.

CAUTION If the clutch is engaged suddenly while the engine revolution is high, an extremely large load will be applied instantaneously to the power train, possibly leading to the breakageof that component. Please ensure, therefore, that the clutch pedal is always applied in a slow yet firm manner.NOTE
 Your vehicle has a special feature to reduce the impact into the power train and to reduce the load of the clutch disk; the engine revolu-tion doesn’t rise more than around 5,500 rpm while the vehicle is stationary and the clutch pedal has been depressed.  If either of the following occurs, the clutch should be inspected by a Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice: • The pedal stroke until clutch disengage- ment suddenly increases. • The engine revs when the clutch is not dis- engaged.
