tem, traction control function and skid controlfunction to help maintain the vehicle’s control and traction. Please read
this section in con-

vibration is associ-
ated with checking th
e operations of the
ASC. At this time, you may feel a shockfrom under the body and the brake pedal if you depress it. These do
not indicate a mal-
function. • When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is putin ON. • When the vehicle is driven for a while after the engine is turned on.
 When the ASC is acti
vated, you may feel a
vibration in the vehicle body or hear a whin- ing sound from the engine compartment. This indicates that the system is operatingnormally. It does not i
ndicate a malfunction.
 When the anti-lock braking system warning light is illuminated, the ASC is not active.
Traction control function
CAUTION
CAUTION When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy road, be sure to install snow tires and drive the vehicle at moderate speeds.
Skid control function
NOTE
 The skid control function operates at speeds of about 9 mph (15 km/h) or higher.

When the ASC is deactivated, the indica- tor will turn on. To reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the “ASC OFF” switch; the indicator is turned off.

CAUTIONFor safety reasons, the “ASC OFF” switch should be operated when your vehicle isstopped.  Be sure to keep the ASC on while driving in normal circumstances.NOTE
 Using the “ASC OFF” switch turns off both the stability control function and the traction control function.
 When moving out of mud, sand or fresh snow, pressing the accelerator pedal may notallow the engine speed to increase. In suchsituations, temporarily turning off ASC with the “ASC OFF” switch will make it easier to move out your vehicle.  If you continue to press the “ASC OFF” switch after the ASC is turned off, the “mis-taken operation
protection function” will
activate and
the ASC will turn back on.

illuminates and goes
off a few seconds later. If one or more of the vehicle tires (except for the spare tire) is signi
ficantly under-inflated,
the warning light will remain illuminated while the ignition switch or the operationmode is in ON. Refer to “If the warning light illuminates while driving” on page 5-58 and take the nec-essary measures.

CAUTION If the tire pressure monitoring system warn- ing light does not illumi
nate when the igni-
tion switch is turned to the “ON” position orthe operation mode is put in ON, it means that the tire pressure monitoring system is not working properly. Have the systeminspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. In such situations, a malfunctioning of thesystem may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pressure. Avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and high-speed driving. If a malfunction is detected in the tire pres- sure monitoring system, the tire pressuremonitoring system warning light will blink for approximately 1 mi
nute and then remain
continuously illuminate
d. The warning light
will issue further warnings each time the engine is restarted as
long as the malfunction
exists.Check to see whether the warning light goes off after few minutes driving. If it then goes off during driving, there is noproblem. However, if the warning light does not go off, or if it blinks again when the engine isrestarted, have the
vehicle inspected by an

i Motors dealer.
In such situations, a malfunctioning of thesystem may be preventing the monitoring of the tire pressure. For safety reasons, when the warning light appears while driving,avoid sudden braking, sharp turning and high-speed driving.

Each tire, including the spare, should be checked monthly when cold and inflated tothe inflation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufac
turer on the vehicle placard
or tire inflation pressu

cle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle
placard or tire infla-
tion pressure label, yo
u should determine the
proper tire inflation pr
essure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when
one or more of your
tires is significant
ly under-inflated.
Accordingly, when the low tire pressure tell- tale illuminates, you should stop and checkyour tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a sig- nificantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead
to tire failure.
Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehi-cle’s handling and stopping ability. Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’sresponsibility to mainta
in correct tire pres-
sure, even if under-inf
lation has not
reached
the level to trigger illumination of the TPMSlow tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when
the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combinedwith the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one min-ute and then remain c
ontinuously illuminated.
This sequence will c
ontinue upon subsequent
vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunctionexists. When the malfunction indicator is illumi- nated, the system may not
be able to detect or
signal low tire pr
essure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions may
occur for a variety
of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from function-ing properly. Always
check the TPMS mal-
function telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure thatthe replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function prop- erly.

 When inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, do not apply excessive force to the valve stem to
avoid breakage.
 After inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, always reinstall the valve cap on thevalve stem. Without the valve cap, di
rt or moisture could
get into the valve, resulting in damage to thetire inflation pressure sensor.  Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal reaction,
resulting in corrosion
and damage of the tire
inflation pressure sen-
sors.  Once adjustments have
been made, the warn-
ing light will go off after a few minutes ofdriving.

2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light remain
s illuminated after
you have been driving for about 20 min- utes after you adjust the tire inflation pres- sure, one or more of the tires may have apuncture. Inspect the ti
re and if it has a
puncture, have it re
paired by an autho-
rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon aspossible.
The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in the following circum- stances:  A wireless facility
or device using the
same frequency is near the vehicle.  Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the wheels. The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.  Wheels other than Mitsubishi Genuine wheels are being used.  Wheels that are not fitted with tire infla- tion pressure sensors are being used. Wheels whose ID codes are not memo- rized by the vehicle are used.  Compact spare tire is fitted on a road wheel.  A window tint that af
fects the radio wave
signals is installed.

programmed into the tire pressure monitoring system. Have tire and

Ifthe warning light comes on, adjust the tire inflation pressure.
Whenever the tires and wheels are replaced with new ones

This indicator is a part of the onboard diag- nostic (OBD) system which monitors the emissions, engine cont
rol system or continu-
ously variable transmission (CVT) controlsystem. If a problem is detected in one of these systems, this indicator illuminates or flashes. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or
the operation mode is
put in ON, this indicator normally comes onand goes off after the engine has started. This indicator will come on if the fuel tank filler cap is not properly tightened. If this indicator comes on and stays on after refuel-ing, stop the engine and check that the cap is properly tightened. (Turn the cap clockwise until you hear clicking sounds.)If this indicator does not go off after several seconds or lights up while driving, have the system checked as soon as possible at anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
CAUTION If the brake warning light and the Anti-lock braking system warning
light are illuminated
at the same time, the braking force distribu-tion function will not
operate, the vehicle
may be destab
ilized during sudden braking
under the following conditions.• When the brake warning light does not goout even when the parking brake isreleased.• When the brake warning light stays onwhile driving.If the above occurs, avoid sudden brakingand high-speed driving.
Park the vehicle in a
safe place, and contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer
or a repair facility
of your choice as soon as possible. The vehicle should be brought to a halt in the following manner when
brake performance
is deteriorated.• Confirm that the vehicle slows down whenyou press down on the brake pedal harder than usual. In some cases, the brake pedalmay go all the way to the floor.• Should the brakes fail, use engine brakingto reduce your speed and slowly apply the parking brake. Depress the brake peda
l to illuminate the
stop lights and to alert the vehicles behind you.

This warning light does not show the amount of oil in the crankcase. This can only be determined by checking the oil level with the dipstick with the engine turned off.
