After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditio
ning blower and rear
window defogger, are turned off.2. While depressing the brake pedal, press the accelerator peda
l halfway and hold it
there, then crank th
e engine. Release the
accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline.While depressing the brake pedal, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then press the engineswitch to crank the engine. If the engine does not start after 5 to 6 seconds, push the engine switch
to stop cranking the
engine, and release th
e accelerator pedal.
Put the operation mode in OFF. Wait a few seconds, and then press the engine switch to crank the engine again while depressing the brake pedal, but do notpush the accelerator
pedal. If the engine
fails to start, repeat
these procedures. If
the engine still will
not start, contact your
local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choi
ce for assistance.
Startability of the engine with an ambient temperature of -22 °F (-30 °C) or lowerWhen the ambient temperature is -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower, it may not be possible to start from a standstill even with the selector leverin the “D” (DRIVE) or “R” (REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans-axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it does not indicate a problem.
If this occurs, place
the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) positionand let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.
The transaxle will wa
rm up, and you will be
able to start normally.Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation. The MIVEC engine automatically switches its intake-valve control between a low-speed mode and a high-speed mode in accordance with driving conditions for maximum engine performance.

Stopping the engine

(SHIFT DOWN) side to shift back to 1stgear.  When the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter is operated with the selector lever in the “L” (LOW) position, gear is not shifted because the selectable shift range is limited.

conditioning operating. Do not release the brake pedal until you are ready to drive away. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot at all times.Using the left foot c
ould cause driver move-
ment delay in case of an emergency.
 To prevent sudden acce
leration, never run
the engine at high rpms when shifting fromthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL). Operating the accelerator pedal while the other foot is resting
on the brake pedal will
affect braking efficiency and may cause pre- mature wear of brake pads. Use the selector lever in the correct shift position in accordance
with driving condi-
tions.Never coast downhill backward in the driv- ing shift position {“D” (DRIVE), “L” (LOW) position or sports mode} or coastforward in the “R” (REVERSE) position. Engine stopping and increased brake pedal and steering effort could
lead to an accident.

ward direction from 1st to 6th. To reverse orpark the vehicle, move
the selector lever to
the “R” or “P” position.  To maintain good running performance, the transmission may refuse to perform an upshift when the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter is moved to the “+(SHIFTUP)” position at cert
ain vehicle speeds.
Also, to prevent over-revving of the engine, the transmission may refuse to perform adownshift when the
sportronic steering
wheel paddle shifter is moved to the “
−
(SHIFT DOWN)” position
at certain vehicle
speeds. When this happens, a buzzer sounds to indicate that a dow
nshift is not going to
take place.  Downward shifts are made automatically when the vehicle slows down. Before thevehicle stops, 1st ge
ar is automatically
selected. Also, the vehicle will automatically return to“D” (DRIVE) operation if the vehicle is stopped.  When the selector lever is in the “L” (LOW) position, the sport mode
is not selected even
if you operate the spor
tronic steering wheel
paddle shifter.  The upward shift may be
made automatically
in sports mode when the engine speed rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone.

Because of the higher ground clear- ance, these vehicles have a higher center ofgravity, which makes them handle differently than ordinary vehicles when driving on pave- ment. They are not designed to maneuver orcorner at the same speed on pavement as con- ventional 2-wheel driv

slowly and smoothly.
 When parked for even a short period, do not idle the engine. Shut it off. Plan your trips to avoid unnecessary stops.
 Keep your tires inflated to the recom- mended pressures. When driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle on highways or dry improved roads, set the drive mode to “4WD ECO” or “4WDAUTO” (Electronically controlled 4WD), or “AWC ECO” or “NORMAL” (S- AW C ) . For freeway driving, maintain a speed of approximately 50 mph (80 km/h) when traffic, roadway and weather conditions safely permit.  Keep your air filter clean and your vehicle lubricated according
