When the ACC is canceled, the “SET” indi- cator goes off and the following distance indi- cator turns to the ‘standby’ display. The front vehicle indicato
r also turns to the ‘standby’
display when a front vehicle is detected.
In any of the situations listed below, the ACC control is automatically canceled, a buzzersounds and a message is
shown in the multi-
information display.  When your vehicle stops.  When the ASC is turned off.  While ABS, ASC or TCL is activated.  When the selector lever is in a position other than “D” (DRIVE) and “Ds” (DOWNSHIFT & SPORTY DRIVING). When the parking brake is applied.
When the ACC system determines that its performance has been degraded, a buzzer willsound and a message will
be displayed in the
multi information display. This can occur when  Foreign objects, such as
dirt, snow or ice,
adhere to the surface of the radar sensor.  In adverse weather
conditions, such as
rain, snow or sand storms, etc. A front vehicle or an oncoming vehicle is splashing water, snow or dirt.  Driving on a nonbusy road with a few vehicles and obstacles in front.  The brake system is overheating due to continuous brake control on long down-hill slope.
NOTE
 You can also cancel the ACC control by pressing the “ACC ON/OFF” switch. If thisswitch is pressed while the ACC is “ON”,the ACC will be turned off.

 If the following operation is performed with the combination headlights and dim- mer switch in the “ ” or “ ” position, the lights automatically turn off. [Except for vehicles equipped with the F. A . S . T. - k e y ]The ignition switch is turned to the “OFF” or “ACC” position or
the key is removed
from the ignition switch and the driver’sdoor is opened. [For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.- key] The operation mode is changed to OFF orACC and the driver’s door is opened.  If the following operation is performed with the combination headlights and dim- mer switch in the “ ” or “ ” position, the lights automatically turn off afterapproximately 3 minutes. For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always check for the following:  Before starting the vehicle, make certain that you and all passengers are seated andwearing their seat
belts properly (with
children in the rear seat, in appropriate restraints), and that all the doors and theliftgate are locked.
 Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while keeping good visibility,and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls. Check the instrument panel indicators and multi-information display
for any possible prob-
lem.  Similarly, the front
passenger seat should
also be moved as fa
r back as possible.
 Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance with all laws and
regulations.
Check these by selecting the defroster mode, and set the blower swit
ch on high. You should
be able to feel the air blowing against thewindshield. Refer to “Defrosti
ng or defogging (wind-
shield, door windows)” on page 7-13 Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns. Look for stones, nails,glass, or other objects
stuck in the tread. Look
for any tread cuts or
sidewall cracks. Check
the wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires(including spare tire) for proper pressure.
Replace your tires before they are heavily worn out.As your vehicle is equi
pped with a tire pres-
sure monitoring system, there is a risk of damage to the tire inflation pressure sensorswhen the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, onl
y, be performed by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Have someone watch wh
ile you turn all the
exterior lights on and off. Also check the turn signal indicators and hi
gh-beam indicators on
the instrument panel. Check the ground under the vehicle after parking overnight, for
fuel, water, oil, or

all the fluid levels are

fixed.

you know when your tires should be replaced. Many states have la
ws requiring that you
replace your tires at this point.These indicators are molded into the bottom of the tread grooves and will appear when the tire tread is worn down to 1/16 inch (1.6mm). When the bands appear next to one another in two or more places
, replace your tires.
Replacing tires and wheels
CAUTIONAvoid using different size tires from the one listed and the combined use of differenttypes of tires, as this can affect driving safety. Refer to “Tires and wheels” on page 11-7. On all-wheel drive vehi
cles, always use tires
of the same size, same
type, and same brand,
and which have no wear differences. Using tires that differ in si
ze, type, brand or the
degree of wear, will increase the differentialoil temperature, resulting in possible damage to the driving system. Further, the drive train will be subjected to ex
cessive loading, possi-
bly leading to oil leakage, component sei- zure, or other serious problems. Only Mitsubishi Motors Authorized wheels should be used, beca

equipped with a tire pr

tem. Use of another type of wheel risks air leaks and sensor damage, as it
will not be possible
to install the tire pressure sensor properly.
NOTE
 On vehicles with Elec
tric parking brake, 16
inches steel wheel cannot be used on yourvehicle because it interfe
res with brake parts.
Additionally, 16 inches aluminum wheel may not be used on
your vehicle depending
on its type, even if a Mitsubishi Motors Gen-uine wheels. Consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer before using
wheels that you have.

To check the brake pedal free play (A), turn off the engine and press the brake pedal sev- eral times with your foot. Then press thepedal down with your fingers until you first feel resistance. Brake pedal free play: .1 to .3 inch (3 to 8 mm) If the free play is not within these limits, take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice for adjustment.

Check the parking brake lever travel occa- sionally. To check this, pull the lever up slowly and count the number of clicks of theratchet. Parking br
