shifting actions as
evasive actions to
avoid collision.• When the rear of your vehicle is weigheddown with the weight of passengers andluggage.• Up to several seconds after starting driv-ing.• In adverse weather conditions, such asrain, snow, fog or sand-storm.• When the windshield of the sensor por-tion is covered with dirt, water droplets, snow and ice, etc.• When a vehicle ahea

• When using a windshield washer.• If windshield wipers are not MitsubishiMotors Genuine parts or equivalent. • When the sensor becomes extremely hotor cold.• If the battery becomes weak or runsdown.• When the sensor is affected by stronglight, such as direct
sunlight or the head-
lights of an oncoming vehicle.
The FCM may not detect a pedestrian incertain situations. Some of these include:• If the pedestrian is
shorter than approxi-
mately 3.2 feet (1 m) or taller thanapproximately 6.5 feet (2 m).WA R N I N G
• If the pedestrian is wearing loose-fittingclothes.• If part of a pedestrian’s body is hidden, such as when holding an umbrella, largebag, etc.• If a pedestrian bends forward, sits or lieson the road.• When a pedestrian is pushing/pullingsomething, such as a stroller, bicycle orwheelchair.• When pedestrians gather in a group.• When a pedestrian

be nearly the same color or brightness asits surroundings.• When a pedestrian is very close to anobject, such as a vehicle.• When a pedestrian is in a dark area, suchas at night or in a tunnel.• When a pedestrian is walking fast orrunning.• When a pedestrian suddenly rushes infront of the vehicle.• When the position of
a pedestrian is close
to the edge of the vehicle.
When the system recognizes driver’ssteering or accelerati

actions to avoid a collision, FCM controland alarm functions
may be canceled.
In certain situations, though there is littleor no risk of a collision, the FCM mayactivate. Examples include: • When overtaking a vehicle.WA R N I N G
• When driving on a curve.

If a problem occurs with the system, a visualwarning specific to the type of the problem isgiven together with an audible alarm. The alarm shown below is displayed if thesystem becomes temporarily unavailable dueto the high or low temperature of the sensor. After temperature of the sensor has been inrange, the system will automatically return tooperation. If the alarm continues s
howing, there is a pos-
sibility that the LDW
has a malfunction. Con-
tact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealerfor inspection of the system.
NOTE
The warnings will not continue for more than3 seconds, even if your vehicle continuesleaving the lane.If the lane markers are only on one side ofthe road, the LDW will operate only for theappropriate side where the lane marker isdrawn.WA R N I N GThe LDW will not function when no lanemarker exists, such as at an intersectionor near a toll booth. The LDW may not operat
e correctly in the
following situations and the LDW may notgive warnings or may
give false warnings:
• When lane markers are not clearly visi-ble due to rain, snow, fog, dark area, etc.• When the road surface is shiny.• When old lane markers remain on theroad surface.• When the lane markers are double linesor the shape of the lane markers arecomplicated.• When driving in an extremely narrowlane.• When the distance between your vehicleand a vehicle in

The washer fluid reservoir is located in theengine compartment.Check the fluid level re
gularly and refill if
necessary. (Refer to
“Washer fluid” on page
9-12.)
Precautions to observe when using wipers and washers
CAUTIONIf the washer is used
in cold weather, the
washer fluid sprayed onto the glass mightfreeze, blocking your vi
ew. Heat the glass
with the defroster befo
re using the washer.
NOTE
Do not use the wipers when the windshield isdry. This could scratch the glass and wear thewiper blades prematurely. Before using the wipe
rs in cold weather,
check to be sure that the wiper blades are notfrozen to the windshield or rear window.Using the wipers while the blades are frozencould cause the wiper motor to burn out.NOTE
If the moving wipers be
come blocked part-
way through a sweep by ic
e or other deposits
on the glass, the wipers may temporarily stopoperating to prevent the motor from over-heating. In this case, park the vehicle in asafe place, turn the ignition switch to the“OFF” position or put the operation mode inOFF, and then remove
the ice or other depos-
its.Because the wipers will start operating againafter the wiper motor cools down, check thatthe wipers operate
before using them.
Avoid using the washer for more than 20 sec-onds at a time. Do not operate the washerwhen the washer fluid reservoir is empty orthe pump may fail.During cold weather, add a recommendedwasher solution that will not freeze in thewasher fluid reservoir. Otherwise the washermay not work or may be damaged.Replace the wiper blades when they areworn. Use the proper size replacementblades. For further info
rmation, please con-
tact your authorized
