IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE PROPERLY SEATED. A driver or front passenger too close to the steeringwheel or instrument panel during airbag deploy- ment can be killed or seriously injured. Airbags inflate very fast
, and with great force.
If the driver and passengers are not properly seated and restrained, the airbags may not protect you properly, and could cause
serious or fatal injuries
when it inflates.

Do not sit on the edge of the seat, or lean head or chest close to the steering wheel or instrument panel.Do not put feet or legs on
or against the instrument
panel.
●
Place all infants and small
children in the rear seat
and properly restrained using an appropriate child restraint system. The rear seat is the safest
for infants and children.

To turn an airbag off, follow these steps: 1. Insert the key into the airbag ON-OFF switch, and turn it
to the “OFF” position.
2. Remove the key from the key opening of that airbag ON-
OFF switch.
3. Insert the key into the ignition switch, and turn the igni-
tion to the “ON” position. The front passenger’s airbagOFF indication lamp will stay on.
The front passenger’s airbag is
now deactivated and will not
deploy until switched on again.
Driver’s and passenger’s front airbag system

The driver’s airbag is located
under the padded cover in the
middle of the steering wheel. Th
e front passenger’s airbag is
contained in the instrument panel above the glove box. The driver’s airbag inflates at
two different rates according to
the severity of the impact. The front passenger’s airbag de
ploys at the same time as the
driver’s airbag, even if the passe
nger seat is not occupied, and
inflates at two different rates
according to the severity of the
impact.

The front airbags MAY DEPLOY when...The front airbags may deploy if the bottom of the vehicle suf- fers a moderate to severe impact (undercarriage damage). Examples of some typical cond

tion. Because the front airbags may de

pected impacts as shown in the
illustration, an

impacts can easily move you out of position, it is important to always properly wear your seat
belts. Your seat belts will help
you to keep a safe distance from
the steering wh
eel and instru-
ment panel during the initial stages of airbag deployment. The initial stage of airbag inflation
is the most for
ceful one and can
possibly cause serious or fatal injuries if you contact it at this stage.1- Collision with an elevated median/island or kerb 2- Vehicle travels over a deep hole/pothole 3- Vehicle drives down a steep slope and hits the ground

you start the vehicle. • The SRS warning lamp does not go out after sev-eral seconds. • The SRS warning lamp illuminates while driving.

Do not modify your steering wheel, seat belt retrac- tor or any other SRS co

wheel, or modifications
to the front bumper or body
structure can adversely
affect SRS performance and
lead to possible injury.

If your vehicle has received any damage, we recom- mend you to have the SRS in
spected to ensure it is in
proper working order.
●
On vehicles with the side
airbags, do not modify
your front seats, centre pillar and centre console. It can adversely affect SR
S performance and lead to
possible injury.If you found any tear scratch, crack or damage to the seat fabric near the side airbag, the portion of the front and rear pillars and roof side rail, youshould have the SRS in
spected by a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.

NOTE●
When the rear window demist
er switch is pushed, the
window glass becomes warm and the wipers become operable. Refer to “Wiper deicer switch” on page 3-77.
●
If your vehicle is equipped
with heated mirrors, when the
rear window demister switch is
pressed, the outside rear-
view mirrors are defogged or
defrosted. Refer to “Heated
mirror” on page 4-14.
●
The demister switch is not to melt snow but to clear mist. Remove snow before use of the demister switch.
●
To avoid unnecessary discharge
of the battery, do not use
the rear window demister duri
ng starting of the engine or
when the engine is not running. Turn the demister offimmediately after the window is clear.
●
When cleaning the inside of
the rear window, use a soft
cloth and wipe gently along the heater wires, being carefulnot to damage the wires.
●
Do not allow objects to touch
the inside of the rear win-
dow glass, damaged or broken wires may result.

If your vehicle is equipped with A/T, be sure to apply the parking brake before moving the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position. If you move
the selector lever to the “P”
(PARK) position before applying the parking brake, itmay be difficult to disengage the selector lever from the “P” (PARK) position when next you drive the vehicle, requiring application of a strong force to the selector leverto move from the “P” (PARK) position.
Parking with the engine runningNever leave the engine running while you take a short sleep/rest or while you open or cl
ose a gate or garage door, etc.
Also, never leave the engine running in a closed or poorly ven-tilated place. Leaving the engine
running risks injury or death
from accidentally moving the g
earshift lever (on M/T vehicles)
or the selector lever (on A/T
vehicles) or the accumulation of

1. Release the tilt lock lever
while holding the steering wheel
up.
2. Adjust the steering wheel
to the desired height.
3. Securely lock the steering wheel by pulling the tilt lock
lever fully upward.

To demist or defrost the outside rear-view mirrors, press the rear window demister switch. The indication lamp (C) will illuminate while the demister is on.The heater will be turned off automatically in about 20 minutes.
