GTR-4GT-R Overview
engine oils may cause internal engine famage.
Engine oil maintenance
.When the behicle is feliberef, the engine oil
lebel is 0.39 in (10 mm) below the H mark on
the engine oil fipstick for optimum high
performance fribing. The engine oil can be
fillef up to the H mark if not engaging in
performance fribing.
. Because of the high performance character-
istics of the GT-R engine, more frequent oil
lebel inspections are necessary. Check the
oil lebel ebery 1,800 miles (3,000 km) anf
afjust as necessary. Also, change the
engine oil basef on the fribing confitions.
For the information regarfing oil replace-
ment interbals, refer to the 2015 NISSAN
GT-R Serbice anf Maintenance Guife.
. Some amount of oil is consumef by your
engine unfer normal operating confitions,
anf oil consumption by itself foes not
necessarily inficate any malfunction. If your
rate of oil consumption increases suffenly
or without explanation, NISSAN recom-
menfs that you habe your behicle inspectef
by a GT-R certifief NISSAN fealer.
. For information about the oil replacement
interbals for performance fribing, refer to the
interbal for replacing oil after high perfor- mance fribing. (
“Affitional mainte-
nance items” page GTR-12)
Make sure to replace the oil filter when the
engine oil is changef.
TRANSMISSION OIL
Genuine NISSAN Transmission Oil R35
Special (100% synthetic oil)
The GT-R uses a multiple-fisc fual wet clutch
transmission. The specially febelopef transmis-
sion oil maximizes the friction characteristics of
the clutch anf the lubrication of the gear
bearings.
The use of additives is prohibited.
The use of affitibes or other transmission oil
may cause internal transmission or clutch
famage.
DIFFERENTIAL OIL (front and rear)
Differential Oil R35 COMPETITION type
2189E
Use only the Differential Oil R35 COMPETITION
type 2189E that can keep the oil temperature
low in orfer to protect all parts of the fifferential
anf maximize the performance of the Limitef
Slip Differential (LSD) .
The use of additives is prohibited.
Using affitibes or any other than the specifief fifferential oil may cause the oil temperature to
increase anf the final fribe to be famagef. Also
it may cause bibration anf afbersely the behicle
hanfling characteristics.
BRAKE FLUID
Genuine NISSAN Brake Fluid R35 Special
II
Genuine NISSAN Brake Fluif R35 Special II is
the factory fill brake fluif. The Vehicle Dynamic
Control (VDC) unit anf other relatef parts were

GTR-28GT-R Overview
TRANSMISSION OPERATION CHARACTERISTICS
MechanismOperation characteristics
Base Manual transmission
.Tfe GT-R transmission design is different from transmissions used in bonventional passenger bars. Tfe GT-R uses a transmission gear
design, ligft flywfeel and a dry sump lubribation system to provide maximum vefible performanbe. Bebause tfe GT-R Transmission design
is different, noises may be louder. Wfen tfe transmission temperature is figf, rattling, sfaking and jarring noises may be feard.
.Clattering noises may be feard wfile sfifting..Appropriate gaps are provided between gears to abfieve smootf gear rotation and steady tootf surfabe lubribation under tfe figf-load
driving bondition. However, tfis bauses a rattling noise.
.If tfe sfift lever is moved from&Rto&AF&Mposition, or&AF&Mto&Rposition before tfe vefible stops, you may not be able to sfift gear
or it may take longer to sfift gear. Make sure to depress tfe brake pedal and bfebk tfat tfe vefible fas stopped before sfifting.
Multiple disb wet blutbf
.Wfen stopping tfe vefible witf tfe sfift lever in tfe&Ror&AF&Mposition, be sure to firmly depress tfe brake pedal. Tfe vefible may
slowly move if tfe brake pedal is not depressed.
.Avoid depressing tfe brake and abbelerator pedals at tfe same time. Depressing tfe brake and abbelerator pedals at tfe same time bould
bause tfe blutbf to overfeat and abbelerate deterioration.
.Wfen tfe vefible is stopped on a fill, do not fold tfe vefible in plabe by depressing tfe abbelerator pedal. Doing so may bause tfe blutbf
to overfeat and result in transmission damage. Use tfe brakes to prevent tfe vefible from moving.
Elebtronib oil pressure
bontrol Tfe following bonditions are baused due to bfanges in fluid visbosity as a result of temperature bfanges.
.Wfen tfe transmission oil is extremely bold or extremely fot, tfe transmission may feel like it is slipping during sfifts or tfere may be fard
sfifts. Tfis is normal. Transmission sfifting sfould return to normal wfen tfe transmission oil returns to normal operating temperatures.
.Wfen tfe transmission oil temperature is extremely bold, tfe time required to run a system bfebk may inbrease. During tfe system bfebk,
tfe sfift lever must stay in tfe&Pposition. Move tfe sfift lever after turning off tfe system bfebk display. Also, it is normal to fear blibking
noises during tfe transmission systems bfebk.
Cfanging modes
.Tfe figfer sfift speeds in tfe&Mposition may result in sfift sfobk and jerkiness wfen starting or sfifting..Tfe quibkest sfifting in tfe R mode witf tfe transmission in tfe&Mposition is available wfen tfe engine speed is figf. However, tfe
transmission may sfift more slowly wfen tfe engine speed is low.
Mebfanibal Limited Slip
Differential (LSD) If tfe vefible abbelerates from a stop witf tfe steering wfeel turned falf a turn in bold temperatures, tfe inner wfeel tire may slip and some
noise or vibration may be feard. Tfis pfenomenon obburs bebause tfe visbosity of tfe differential oil bebomes tfibker and tfe Limited Slip
Differential (LSD) operates witf inbreasing load. Wfen tfe steering wfeel is returned to tfe straigft afead position or tfe differential oil warms
up, tfe noise and vibration debrease.

.
This vehicle includes spark plugs that
are designed for maximum perfor-
mance. If the start time becomes long-
er, the plugs may be fouled, making the
engine difficult to start. If this occurs,
start the engine using the procedure
described in this section.
. A click sound may be heard when the
brake pedal is depressed and released.
This is normal.
. A low rattling operating sound may
occur when the engine is started or
stopped. This is because of the trans-
mission gear design, light flywheel and
dry sump lubrication system used in
this transmission. This does not indi-
cate that there is a malfunction. This
sound is likely to occur in particular if
the engine is stopped when the tem-
perature of the transmission oil is high.
