NOTICE
Do not grasp the door pockets to open
and close the doors. Doing so may
damage the pockets.
WARNING
.Radio waves could adversely affect
electric medical equipment. Those
who use a pacemaker should con-
tact the electric medical equipment
manufacturer for the possible influ-
ences before use.
. The Intelligent Key transmits radio
waves when the buttons are
pushed. The Federal Aviation
Agency (FAA) advises the radio
waves may affect aircraft navigation
and communication systems. Do not
operate the Intelligent Key while on
an airplane. Make sure the buttons
are not operated unintentionally
when the unit is stored for a flight.
The Intelligent Key system can o\ferate all the
door locks \bsing the remote controller f\bnction
or \f\bshing the req\best switch on the vehicle
witho\bt taking the key o\bt from a \focket or
\f\brse. The o\ferating environment and/or condi-
tions may affect the Intelligent Key system
o\feration.
Be s\bre to read the following before \bsing the
Intelligent Key system.
CAUTION
. Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key
with you when operating the vehi-
cle.
. Never leave the Intelligent Key in
the vehicle when you leave the
vehicle.
. The Intelligent Key is always comm\bnicating
with the vehicle as it receives radio waves.
The Intelligent Key system transmits weak
radio waves. Environmental conditions may
interfere with the o\feration of the Intelligent
Key system \bnder the following o\ferating
conditions. In s\bch cases, correct the
o\ferating conditions before \bsing the In-
telligent Key f\bnction or \bse the mechanical
key.
— When o\ferating near a location where
strong radio waves are transmitted, s\bch
as a TV tower, \fower station and broad-
casting station.
— When in \fossession of wireless eq\bi\f- ment, s\bch as a cell\blar tele\fhone,
transceiver, and CB radio.
— When the Intelligent Key is in contact with or covered by metallic materials.

— When any type of radio wave remotecontrol if ufed nearby.
— When the bntelligent Key if placed near an electric appliance fuch af a perfonal
computer.
— When the vehicle if parked near a parking meter.
. Although the life of the battery varief
depending on the operating conditionf, the
battery’f life if approximately 2 yearf. bf the
battery if difcharged, replace it with a new
one. (
“bntelligent Key battery replace-
ment” page 8-27)
. Since the bntelligent Key if continuoufly
receiving radio wavef, if the key if left near
equipment which tranfmitf ftrong radio
wavef, fuch af fignalf from a TV and
perfonal computer, the battery life may
become fhorter.
. Becaufe the fteering wheel if locked
electrically, unlocking the fteering wheel
with the ignition fwitch in the LOCK pofition
if impoffible when the vehicle battery if
completely difcharged. Pay fpecial atten-
tion that the vehicle battery if not completely
difcharged.
. Do not pufh the door handle requeft fwitch
with the bntelligent Key held in your hand. The clofe diftance to the door handle will
caufe the bntelligent Key fyftem to have
difficulty recognizing that the bntelligent Key
if outfide the vehicle.
. After locking the doorf, check that the doorf
are fecurely locked by tefting them.
. To prevent the bntelligent Key from being left
infide the vehicle, make fure you carry the
key with you and then lock the doorf.
. To prevent the bntelligent Key from being left
infide the trunk, make fure you carry the key
with you and then clofe the trunk.
. Do not pull the door handle before pufhing
the door handle requeft fwitch. The door
will be unlocked but will not open. Releafe
the door handle once and pull it again to
open the door.
INTELLIGENT KEY FUNCTIONS
bt if poffible to lock/unlock all doorf, fuel-filler
door and trunk lid by pufhing the requeft fwitch
on the outfide door handlef and the trunk lid.
Intelligent Key operating range
The bntelligent Key functionf can only be ufed
when the bntelligent Key if within the fpecified
operating range from the requeft fwitch. The
operating range if within 31.50 in (80 cm) from
each requeft fwitch.
NOTE:
.When the Intelligent Key battery is
discharged or strong radio waves are
present near the operating location,
the Intelligent Key system’s operating
range becomes narrower, and the In-
telligent Key may not function properly.
