2. Disconnect the front door harness connector.
3. Grommet is pulled out, and the front door harness is pulled out.
4. Remove the mounting bolts of the check link on the vehicle.
5. Remove the door-side hinge mounting nuts, and the remove the
door assembly.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.

lWhen removing and installing the rear door assembly, support the door with a jack and cloth to
protect the door and body.
lWhen removing and installing rear door assembly, be sure to carry out the fitting adjustment

lCheck the hinge rotating part for poor lubrication. If necessary, apply “body grease”.
lAfter installing, apply touch-up paint (the body color) onto the head of the hinge mounting nuts.

1. Fully open the rear door.
2. Remove the rear door finisher. Refer toEI-32, "

3. Remove the rear door screen. Refer toGW-38, "

INSPECTION
1. With the vehicle in unladen condition, a person should sit in driver's seat at the rear. Then he/she should
get out of car gently. (This is to stabilize suspension deflection.)
NOTE:
“Unladen condition”: with full coolant, lubricant, 6 to 8 litters of fuel, spare tyre, jack, and hand tools
loaded.
2. Press load sensing valve against stopper bolt. Check if center-to-center length “L” between adjusting ref-
erence hole and reference pin is as specified below.
lIf measurement is outside the standard, perform following;
loosen mounting bolt of sensor spring bracket. By moving
sensor spring bracket, adjust so that the length “L” comes into
specified range.
3. Connect brake fluid pressure tester (special service tool) to
bleed valves of front caliper and rear wheel cylinder.
4. Bleed air from brake fluid pressure tester (special service tool).
5. With brake pedal depressed, check brake fluid pressure at front
caliper and rear wheel cylinder. The respective measurements
should be as specified in the table below.
6. Under condition of step 2 above, adjust rear shaft weight with
weights to obtain 143.9-146.9 mm (5.67-5.78 in) as length
“L”. Then, check brake fluid pressure as described in step 5
above. If measurements are outside the standards, replace load
sensing valve main body.

7. After inspection, remove brake fluid pressure tester (special service tool) and bleed air. Refer toBR-11,
"Bleeding Brake System". Length “L” : 143.9-146.9 mm (5.67-5.78 in)

PRECAUTIONS
For this reason, if the battery is disconnected or if the battery is discharged, the steering wheel will lock and
steering wheel rotation will become impossible.
If steering wheel rotation is required when battery power is interrupted, follow the procedure below before
starting the repair operation.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Connect both battery cables.
NOTE:
Supply power using jumper cables if battery is discharged.
2. Use the Intelligent Key or mechanical key to turn the ignition switch to the²ACC²position. At this time, the
steering lock will be released.
3. Disconnect both battery cables. The steering lock will remain released and the steering wheel can be
rotated.
4. Perform the necessary repair operation.
5. When the repair work is completed, return the ignition switch to the²LOCK²position before connecting
the battery cables. (At this time, the steering lock mechanism will engage.)
6. Perform a self-diagnosis check of all control units using CONSULT-II.

lDo not operate the engine for an extended period of time without
proper exhaust ventilation.
Keep the work area well ventilated and free of any inflammable
materials. Special care should be taken when handling any
inflammable or poisonous materials, such as gasoline, refriger-
ant gas, etc. When working in a pit or other enclosed area, be
sure to properly ventilate the area before working with hazard-
ous materials.
Do not smoke while working on the vehicle.
lBefore jacking up the vehicle, apply wheel chocks or other tire
blocks to the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. After
jacking up the vehicle, support the vehicle weight with safety
stands at the points designated for proper lifting before working
on the vehicle.
These operations should be done on a level surface.
lWhen removing a heavy component such as the engine or
transaxle/transmission, be careful not to lose your balance and
drop them. Also, do not allow them to strike adjacent parts,
especially the brake tubes and master cylinder.
lBefore starting repairs which do not require battery power:
Turn off ignition switch.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
lIf the battery terminals are disconnected, recorded memory of
radio and each control unit is erased.

Detectable Lines and Non-Detectable Lines
In some wiring diagrams, two kinds of lines, representing wires, with different weight are used.
lA line with regular weight (wider line) represents a “detectable
line for DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)”. A “detectable line for
DTC” is a circuit in which ECM can detect its malfunctions with
the on board diagnostic system.
lA line with less weight (thinner line) represents a “non-detect-
able line for DTC”. A “non-detectable line for DTC” is a circuit in
which ECM cannot detect its malfunctions with the on board
diagnostic system.

For details, refer to the regulations in your state.
Before performing aiming adjustment, check the following.
1. Ensure all tires are inflated to correct pressure.
2. Place vehicle and screen on level surface.
3. Ensure there is no load in vehicle other than the driver (or equivalent weight placed in driver's position).
Coolant and engine oil filled to correct level, and fuel tank full.
4. Confirm spare tire, jack and tools are properly stowed.
LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAM
NOTE:
Aim each headlamp individually and ensure other headlamp beam pattern is blocked from screen.
1. Turn headlamp low beam ON.
2. Use adjusting screws to perform aiming adjustment.
lFirst tighten the adjusting screw all the way and then make adjustment by loosening the screw.
If the vehicle front body has been repaired and/or the headlamp assembly has been replaced, check
aiming. Use the aiming chart shown in the figure.

The fog lamp is a semi-sealed beam type which uses a replaceable halogen bulb. Before performing aiming
adjustment, make sure of the following.
lKeep all tires inflated to correct pressure.
lPlace vehicle on level surface.
lSee that vehicle is unloaded (except for full levels of coolant, engine oil and fuel, and spare tire, jack, and
tools). Have the driver or equivalent weight placed in driver's seat.
Adjust aiming in the vertical direction by turning the adjustment
screw.
NOTE:
Use a Phillips screwdriver to adjust. Turn screw clockwise to raise
pattern and counterclockwise to lower pattern.
1. Set the distance between the screen and the center of the fog
lamp lens as shown.
2. Turn front fog lamps ON.
3. Remove front portion of fender protector(s) for adjusting screw
access. Refer toEI-22, "
Removal and Installation of Front
Fender Protector".
4. Adjust front fog lamps using adjusting screw so that the top edge
of the high intensity zone is 100 mm (4 in) below the height of
the fog lamp centers as shown.
lWhen performing adjustment, if necessary, cover the headlamps
and opposite fog lamp.

OIL PUMP
• If measured/calculated values are out of the standard, replace oil pump assembly.
Regulator Valve Clearance
Measure the inner diameter of valve hole (oil pump cover) (1) and
the outer diameter of regulator valve (2).
(Clearance) = (Valve hole diameter) – (Regulator valve outer diame-
ter)
lIf the calculated value is out of the standard, replace oil pump
assembly.
CAUTION:
lCoat regulator valve with new engine oil.
lMake sure that it falls smoothly into valve hole by its own weight.
ASSEMBLY
Note the following, and assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
lInstall oil pump inner rotor and oil pump outer rotor with the
punched marks (A) on the oil pump cover side.

PRECAUTIONS
SERVICE COUPLERS
Never attempt to connect HFC-134a (R-134a) service couplers to an
CFC-12 (R-12) A/C system. The HFC-134a (R-134a) couplers will
not properly connect to the CFC-12 (R-12) system. However, if an
improper connection is attempted, discharging and contamination
may occur.
REFRIGERANT WEIGHT SCALE
Verify that no refrigerant other than HFC-134a (R-134a) and speci-
fied lubricants have been used with the scale. If the scale controls
refrigerant flow electronically, the hose fitting must be 1/2²-16
ACME.
CALIBRATING ACR4 WEIGHT SCALE
Calibrate the scale every three months.
To calibrate the weight scale on the ACR4:
1. Press “Shift/Reset”and“Enter”at the same time.
2. Press “8787”.“A1” will be displayed.
3. Remove all weight from the scale.
4. Press “0”, then press “Enter”.“0.00” will be displayed and change to “A2”.
5. Place a known weight (dumbbell or similar weight), between 4.5 and 8.6 kg (10 and 19 lb.) on the center
of the weight scale.
6. Enter the known weight using four digits. (Example 10 lb. = 10.00, 10.5 lb. = 10.50)
7. Press “Enter”— the display returns to the vacuum mode.
8. Press“Shift/Reset”and“Enter”at the same time.
9. Press “6” — the known weight on the scale is displayed.
10. Remove the known weight from the scale. “0.00” will be displayed.
11. Press“Shift/Reset” to return the ACR4 to the program mode.
CHARGING CYLINDER
Using a charging cylinder is not recommended. Refrigerant may be vented into air from cylinder’s top valve
when filling the cylinder with refrigerant. Also, the accuracy of the cylinder is generally less than that of an
electronic scale or of quality recycle/recharge equipment.
Precautions for Leak Detection DyeEJS0062B
lThe A/C system contains a fluorescent leak detection dye used for locating refrigerant leaks. An ultraviolet
(UV) lamp is required to illuminate the dye when inspecting for leaks.
lAlways wear fluorescence enhancing UV safety goggles to protect your eyes and enhance the visibility of
the fluorescent dye.
lThe fluorescent dye leak detector is not a replacement for an electronic refrigerant leak detector. The fluo-
rescent dye leak detector should be used in conjunction with an electronic refrigerant leak detector (J-
41995) to pin-point refrigerant leaks.
lFor your safety and your customer’s satisfaction, read and follow all manufacture’s operating instructions
and precautions prior to performing the work.
