CAUTION:
Apply new engine oil to parts marked in illustration before installation.
NOTE:
The following procedures explain how to disassem ble the engine with the engine stand fastened to the bell
housing. Some steps may be different if using a different type of engine stand.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the engine and transaxle as an assembly from the vehicle, and separate the transaxle from the
engine. Refer to EM-84, "Removal and Installation"
.
2. Remove the drive plate. Hold the crankshaft using Tool (A) and use a suitable tool to remove the bolts.
3. Remove pilot converter using Tool.
4. Remove the rear oil seal. Refer to EM-72, "Removal and Installation of Rear Oil Seal"
.
5. Mount the engine on a suitable engine stand (A). CAUTION:
• Use an engine stand that has a load capacity large
enough for supporting the engine weight [approximately
135 kg (298 lb) or more].
• Before removing the hanging chains, check the engine
stand is stable and there is no risk of overturning.
NOTE:
The figure shows an example of widely used engine stand (A)
that can support mating surface of transaxle with drive plate
removed.
• Remove the following parts if the engine stand load capacity is not adequate, to reduce the potential risk of overturning stand:
- Intake manifold. Refer to EM-30, "Removal and Installation"
.
- Exhaust manifold. Refer to EM-33, "Removal and Installation"
.
- Rocker cover. Refer to EM-45, "Removal and Installation"
.
6. Drain any remaining engine oil and coolant from the engine.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold and three way catalyst assembly. Refer to EM-33, "Removal and Installa-
tion".
8. Remove the intake manifold and fuel tube assembly. Refer to EM-30, "Removal and Installation"
.

• Place removed parts such as bearings and bear ing caps in their proper order and direction.
• When installing the connecting ro d nuts, and main bearing cap bolts, apply new engine oil to the
threads and mating surfaces
• Do not allow any magnetic materials to contact the signal plate teeth on the drive plate.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the engine assembly. Refer to EM-220, "Removal and Installation".
2. Remove drive plate. • Loosen bolts in diagonal order.
CAUTION:
• Do not disassemble drive plate.
• Place the drive plate with signal plate surface facing
upward.
• Be careful not to damage or scratch drive plate. Espe- cially avoiding deforming and damaging of signal plate
teeth.
• Keep magnetic materials away from signal plate.
3. Remove pilot converter using Tool.
4. Install the engine on the engine stand. CAUTION:
• Use an engine stand that has a load capacity [approximately 240kg (529) or more] large enough
for supporting the engine weight.
• Before removing the hanging chains, make sure th e engine stand is stable and there is no risk of
overturning.

ENGINE OIL
• When engine oil temperature is low, engine oil pressure becomes high.
• If difference is extreme, check oil passage and oil pump for oil leaks.
6. After the inspections, install oil pressure switch as follows:
a. Remove old liquid gasket adhering to oil pressure switch.
b. Apply liquid gasket and tighten oil pressure switch to the specification. Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent.
c. After warming up engine, make sure there are no engine oil leaks.
7. Install fender protector side cover (RH). Refer to EXT-26, "FENDER PROTECTOR : Exploded View"
.
Changing Engine OilINFOID:0000000009461029
WARNING:
• Be careful not to burn yourself, as the engine oil may be hot.
• Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer: try to avoid direct skin
contact with used oil. If skin contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or hand cleaner as soon as
possible.
1. Position the vehicle so it is level on the hoist.
2. Warm up the engine and check for oil leaks from the engine.
3. Stop engine and wait for 10 minutes.
4. Remove the oil pan drain plug (1) and oil filler cap.
5. Drain the engine oil.
6. Install the oil pan drain plug with a new washer and refill the engine with new engine oil.
CAUTION:
• Be sure to clean the oil pan drain plug and install using a new washer.
• The refill capacity depends on the oil temper ature and drain time. Use these specifications for
reference only. Always use the oil level gauge to determine when the proper amount of oil is in
the engine.
7. Warm up the engine and check around the drain plug and oil filter for oil leaks.
8. Stop the engine and wait for 10 minutes.
9. Check the oil level using the oil level gauge. CAUTION:
Do not overfill the engine with engine oil. Engine oil pressure : Refer to

FOR USA AND CANADA :
Fluids and LubricantsINFOID:0000000009464536
*1: For additional information, see “Engine Oil Recommendation”.
*2: As an alternative to this recommended oil, SAE 5W-30 conventional petroleum based oil may be used and meet all specificatio ns
and requirements necessary to maintain the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
*3: NISSAN recommen ds Genuine NISSAN Ester Oil av ailable at a NISSAN dealer.
*4: Use only Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS -3, using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-3
will damage the CVT, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.
*5: Use of a power steering fluid other than Genuine NISSAN E-PSF will prevent the power steering system from operating properly.
*6: Available in mainland U. S.A. through a NISSAN dealer.
*7: For additional information, see "Air conditioner specification label".
FOR USA AND CANADA : En gine Oil RecommendationINFOID:0000000009464537
NISSAN recommends the use of an energy conserving o il in order to improve fuel economy. Select only
engine oils that meet the American Petroleum Institut e (API) certification and International Lubricant Standard-
ization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) certificati on and SAE viscosity standard. These oils have the API
certification mark on the front of the container. Oils which do not have the specified quality label should not be
used as they could cause engine damage.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE (QR25DE)
