MOVING OBJECTDETECTION (MOD)

The Moving ObjectDetection (MOD)system can
inform thedriver ofmoving objects whendriving outof
garages, maneuvering intoparking lotsand inother
such instances.
The MOD system detects movingobjects byusing
image processing technologyonthe image shown on
the display .The rear view camera isequipped withthe
automatic washerfunction usingwindow washerfluid.
The MOD system operates inthe following conditions
when thecamera viewisdisplayed:
. When theshift lever isin the ªPº (Park) orªNº
(Neutral) position(CVTmodel) orthe shift lever is
out ofthe ªRº (Reverse) position(MTmodel) and
the vehicle isstopped, theMOD system detects
the moving objects inthe bird's-eye view.The MOD
system willnotoperate ifthe outside mirror
is moving inor out orifeither doorisopened.
. When theshift lever isin the ªDº (Drive) position
(CVT model) orthe shift lever isout ofthe ªRº
(Reverse) position(MTmodel) ,and thevehicle
speed isbelow approximately 8km/h (5MPH) ,
the MOD system detects movingobjects inthe
front view.

moving objects inthe rear view.The MOD system
will notoperate ifthe back doorisopen.
The MOD system doesnotdetect moving objects in
the front-side view.The MOD iconisnot displayed on
the screen wheninthis view .
WARNING:
. The MOD system isnot asubstitute for
proper vehicle operation anddoes notpre-
vent contact withtheobjects surrounding
the vehicle. Whenmaneuvering, alwaysuse
the outside mirrorandinside rearview mirror
and turn andlook tocheck thesurroundings
to make sureitis safe tomaneuver.
. The system isdeactivated atspeeds above
10 km/h (6MPH) .It is reactivated atlower
speeds.
. The system isnot designed toprevent

roads, activate thehilldescent controlsystem by
pushing thehilldescent controlswitchon.
When thehilldescent controlsystem isactivated, the
hill descent controlsystem onindicator light

indicator lightº(P.2-18) .)Also, thestop/tail lights
illuminate whilethehilldescent controlsystem is
applying thebrakes tocontrol thevehicle speed.
T o activate thehilldescent controlsystem, satisfyallof
the following conditions:
. Shift thetransmission tothe forward orreverse
gear.
. Turn the4WD mode switch tothe LOCK mode
and drive thevehicle ataspeed under25km/h
(15 MPH) . .
Push thehilldescent controlswitchtothe ªONº
position.
If the accelerator orbrake pedal isdepressed whilethe
hill descent controlsystem ison, the system willstop
operating temporarily .As soon asthe accelerator or
brake pedal isreleased, thehilldescent controlsystem
begins tofunction againifthe hilldescent control
operating conditions arefulfilled.
The hilldescent controlsystem onindicator lightblinks
if the hilldescent controlswitchison and allconditions
for system activation arenot met, orifthe system
becomes disengaged forany reason.
When thevehicle speedexceeds 40km/h (25MPH) ,
the 4WD mode indicator lightchanges fromLOCK to
AUT O.Once thespeed decreases to25 km/h (15
MPH) ,turn the4WD mode switch toLOCK again to
turn onthe hilldescent controlsystem.
T o turn offthe hilldescent controlsystem, pushthehill
descent controlswitchtothe OFF position.

BSW indicator (inthe Vehicle information display)
The BSW system operates aboveapproximately 32
km/h (20MPH) .
The BSW lightisshown inthe vehicle information
display ifthe Blind SpotWarning system isactive. To
switch thesystem onoroff, see thedescription laterin
this section.
When thecamera unitdetects vehicles inthe detection
zone, theBlind SpotIndicator lightlocated insidethe
outside mirrorswillilluminate. Ifthe turn signal isthen
activated, thesystem chimes (twice)andtheBlind
Spot Indicator lightflashes toalert thedriver.
The Blind SpotIndicator lightcontinues toflash until
the detected vehicle(s) leavethedetection zone.

The camera unitcan detect vehicles oneither sideof
your vehicle whenpartofanother vehicleiswithin the
detection zoneshown asillustrated.
This detection zonetypically startsfromtheoutside
mirror ofyour vehicle andextends approximately 3m
(10 ft)behind therear bumper, andapproximately 3m
(10 ft)sideways.
The brightness ofthe Blind SpotIndicator lightsis
adjusted automatically dependingonthe brightness of
the ambient light.
A chime sounds ifthe camera unithasalready
detected vehicleswhenthedriver activates theturn
signal. Ifa vehicle comesintothedetection zoneafter
the driver activates theturn signal, thenonlytheBlind
Spot Indicator lightflashes andnochime sounds. (See

menu inthe vehicle information display.

Perform thefollowing stepstoenable ordisable the
BSW system.
1. Use the
button untilªSettingsº displaysinthe
vehicle information display.Use the
to select
ªDriver Assistanceº .Then press theENTER
button.
2. Select ªDriving Aidsº,and press theENTER
button.
3. To set the BSW system toon oroff, use the
buttons tonavigate inthe menu andusethe
ENTER buttontoselect ªBlind Spotºandpress
the ENTER button.
WARNING:
. The camera unitmay notbeable todetect
when certain objects arepresent suchas:
Ð Pedestrians, bicycles,animals
Ð Some typesofsmall vehicles suchas
motorcycles andvery short length vehi-
cles
Ð Oncoming vehicles
Ð Avehicle approaching rapidlyfrombe-

. The camera unitmay notbeable todetect
properly whenyourvehicle travelsbeside
the middle section ofavehicle withlong
wheelbase (forexample, trailertruck,semi-
trailer, tractor) .
. The camera detection zoneisdesigned
based onastandard lanewidth. When
driving inawider lane,thecamera unit
may notdetect vehicles inan adjacent lane.
When driving inanarrow lane,thecamera
unit may detect vehicles drivingtwolanes
away.
. The camera unitisdesigned toignore most
stationary objects,however objectssuchas
guardrails, walls,foliage andparked vehi-
cles may occasionally bedetected. Thisisa
normal operating condition.
. The camera unitmay detect thereflected
image ofvehicles orroadside objectsthat
are not actually inthe detection zone,
especially whentheroad iswet.

The Blind SpotIndicator lightilluminates ifa vehicle
enters thedetection zonefrombehind inan adjacent
lane.
However, ifthe overtaking vehicleistraveling much
faster thanyourvehicle, theindicator lightmaynot
illuminate beforethedetected vehicleisbeside your
vehicle. Alwaysusetheside andrear mirrors andturn
and look inthe direction yourvehicle willmove to
ensure itis safe tochange lanes.

If the driver activates theturn signal, thentheBlind Spot
Indicator lightflashes andachime willsound
twice.
NO TE:
If the driver activates theturn signal before a
vehicle entersthedetection zone,theBlind Spot
Indicator lightwillflash butnochime willsound
when theother vehicle isdetected.
