Vehicle care165With engine switched off, turn ignition
key to ON, wait approx. 5 seconds,
and turn key to LOCK to perform
priming operation. Perform this
operation 3 times or more while the
engine is switched off, to avoid air
entering the fuel line.
Check diesel fuel filter at shorter
intervals if the vehicle is subjected to
extreme operating conditions.
If there is water in the diesel fuel filter, control indicator U illuminates in the
instrument cluster 3 90. Drain the
water immediately.
Diesel fuel system bleeding
If the fuel tank has been run dry, the
diesel fuel system must be bled.
Switch on the ignition three times for
15 seconds at a time. Then crank the
engine for a maximum of
40 seconds. If the engine will not start, wait at least 10 seconds before trying
again. If the engine fails to start, seek the assistance of a workshop.Wiper blade replacement
Wiper blades on the windscreen
Lift wiper arm, press and hold
retaining clip and detach wiper blade.
Attach the wiper blade slightly angled
to the wiper arm and push until it
engages.
Lower wiper arm carefully.
Bulb replacement
Switch off the ignition and turn off the
relevant switch or close the doors.
Only hold a new bulb at the base! Do not touch the bulb glass with bare
hands.
Use only the same bulb type for
replacement.
Replace headlight bulbs from within
the engine compartment.
Bulb check
After a bulb replacement switch on
the ignition, operate and check the
lights.
Headlights Headlamp removal
For bulb replacement, it is necessary
to first remove the headlamp
assembly.

protective film, making waxing
unnecessary.
Plastic body parts must not be treated
with wax or polishing agents.
Windows and windscreen wiper
blades
Use a soft lint-free cloth or chamois
leather together with window cleaner
and insect remover.
When cleaning the rear window,
make sure the heating element inside
is not damaged.
For mechanical removal of ice, use a
sharp-edged ice scraper. Press the
scraper firmly against the glass so
that no dirt can get under it and
scratch the glass.
Clean smearing wiper blades with a
soft cloth and window cleaner.Sunroof
Never clean with solvents or abrasive
agents, fuels, aggressive media (e.g.
paint cleaner, acetone-containing solutions etc.), acidic or highly
alkaline media or abrasive pads. Do
not apply wax or polishing agents to
the sunroof.
Wheels and tyres Do not use high-pressure jet
cleaners.
Clean rims with a pH-neutral wheel
cleaner.
Rims are painted and can be treated
with the same agents as the body.
Paintwork damage Rectify minor paintwork damage witha touch-up pen before rust forms.
Have more extensive damage or rust areas repaired by a workshop.
Underbody
Some areas of the vehicle underbody
have a PVC undercoating while other
critical areas have a durable
protective wax coating.After the underbody is washed, check the underbody and have it waxed if
necessary.
Bitumen/rubber materials could
damage the PVC coating. Have
underbody work carried out by a
workshop.
Before and after winter, wash the
underbody and have the protective
wax coating checked.
Towing equipment
Do not clean the coupling ball bar with a steam-jet or high-pressure jet
cleaner.
Rear carrier system Clean the rear carrier system with a
steam-jet or high-pressure jet cleaner
at least once a year.
Operate the rear carrier system once
in a while if not in regular use, in
particular during winter.
