Take care when operating the
electric foldable rear seats. The seat backrest is folded with
considerable power. Risk of injury, particularly to children.
Ensure that nothing is attached to
the rear seats or located on the
seat cushion.
● Remove big wind deflector if installed 3 43.
● Press the catches and push down the head restraints 3 47.
● Pull the release switch p on one
or both sides of the load
compartment, to fold down the
backrests onto the seat cushion.
● To fold up, raise the backrest and
guide it into an upright position
until it engages audibly.Caution
When loading the vehicle from the passenger compartment, fold in
the load compartment partition.
Otherwise the load compartment
partition may be damaged.
9 Warning
When folding up, ensure that
backrests are securely locked in
position before driving. Failure to
do so may result in personal injury or damage to the load or vehicle in the event of hard braking or a
collision.
Pass-through flap behind rear seats
For transporting long objects in the
load compartment, a pass-through
flap between load compartment and
vehicle interior can be opened:
● Remove the installed big wind deflector or the bag with the
stowed wind deflectors behind
the rear seats 3 43.
● Close soft top 3 36.
● Push the load compartment partition at the loop area upwards
to the inside 3 73.

Storage77Loading information● Heavy objects in the load compartment should be placed
as far forward as possible.
Ensure that the backrests are
securely engaged. If objects can
be stacked, heavier objects
should be placed at the bottom.
● Prevent sliding of loose objects by securing them with straps
attached to the lashing eyes
3 76.
● Use the hooks in the load compartment for hanging up
carrier bags 3 75. Maximum
load: 5 kg per hook.
● When transporting objects in the load compartment, the backrestsof the rear seats must not be
angled forward.
● Do not place any objects on the instrument panel, and do not
cover the sensor on top of the
instrument panel.
● The load must not obstruct the operation of the pedals, parking
brake and gear selector lever, orhinder the freedom of movement of the driver. Do not place any
unsecured objects in the interior.
● Do not place any objects on the covers of the roll bars behind the
head restraints.
● Do not drive with an open load compartment.9Warning
Always ensure that the load in the
vehicle is securely stowed.
Otherwise objects can be thrown
around inside the vehicle and
cause personal injury or damage
to the load or vehicle.
● The payload is the difference between the permitted grossvehicle weight (see identification
plate 3 233) and the EC kerb
weight.
To calculate the payload, enter the data for your vehicle in the
weights table at the front of this
manual.
The EC kerb weight includes
weights for the driver (68 kg),
luggage (7 kg) and all fluids (fuel
tank 90% full).
Optional equipment and
accessories increase the kerb
weight.

Seat belt reminder
Seat belt reminder on front seats
X for driver's seat illuminates or
flashes red.
k for front passenger seat illuminates
or flashes red, when seat is occupied.
Illuminates
After the ignition has been switched
on until the seat belt has been
fastened.
Flashes
After having started the engine for a
maximum of 100 seconds until the
seat belt has been fastened.
Airbag, belt tensioners and roll bars
v illuminates red.When the ignition is switched on, the
control indicator illuminates for
approx. 4 seconds. If it does not
illuminate, does not extinguish after
4 seconds or illuminates whilst
driving, there is a fault in the airbag
system, in the belt tensioner or the deployable roll bars. The airbags, belt
pretensioners and roll bars may fail to trigger in the event of an accident.
Deployment of the belt tensioners,
airbags or deployable roll bars is
indicated by continuous illumination
of v.9 Warning

the high beam is on, the high beam assist will be deactivated.
If a headlight flash is activated when the high beam is off, the high beam
assist will remain activated.
The latest setting of the high beam
assist will remain after the ignition is
switched on again.

Headlights when driving
abroad
The asymmetrical headlight beam
extends visibility at the edge of the
road at the passenger side.
However, when driving in countries
where traffic drives on the opposite
side of the road, adjust the headlights to prevent dazzling of oncoming
traffic.
Vehicles with halogen headlight
system
The headlights do not have to be adjusted.

immediately if the turn signal lever is
pulled while the driver's door is open.
Activation, deactivation and duration of this function can be changed in the Info-Display. Vehicle personalisation

The settings can be saved for the key

Battery discharge protection Vehicle battery state of charge
function
The function guarantees longest
vehicle battery life via a generator
with controllable power output and
optimised power distribution.
To prevent discharge of the vehicle
battery when driving, the following
systems are reduced automatically in two stages and finally switched off:
● auxiliary heater
● heated rear window and mirrors
● heated seats
● fanIn the second stage, a message
which confirms activation of the
vehicle battery discharge protection will be displayed in the Driver
Information Centre.
Switching off electric lights To prevent discharge of the vehicle
battery when the ignition is switched
off, some interior lights are switched
off automatically after some time.

Air conditioning system
In addition to the heating and
ventilation system, the air
conditioning system has controls for:

Cooling n
Press n to switch on cooling. The
LED in the button illuminates to
indicate activation. Cooling is only
functional when the engine is running and climate control fan is switched on.
Press n again to switch off cooling.
The air conditioning system cools and
dehumidifies (dries) as soon as the
outside temperature is slightly above
the freezing point. Therefore
condensation may form and drip from under the vehicle.

in an Autostop, the engine will restart automatically.
If s is pressed with the fan switched
on while the engine is in an
Autostop, the engine will restart
automatically.

Electronic climate control system
The dual zone climate control allows
different climatisation temperatures
for driver side and front passenger
side.
In automatic mode, temperature, fan
speed and air distribution are
regulated automatically.
