Car Pass 3
The Ca r Pass contains a ll of the vehicle’s
da t a a n d s h o ul d t h er ef o r e n ot be k ep t i n

The system checks whether the vehicle is
allowe d to be s ta rte d us ing the ke y that
h a s be en i n se r t ed. If t h e key i s re co g n i se d
as "authorised" , the vehicle c an be started.

Cont rol indica tor for im mobili se r oIlluminates brie fly when the ignition is
switched on.
If the control indicator s tays illuminated
after the ignition is s witched on, the re is a
fault in the system; the e ngine cannot be
starte d. S witch off the ig nition, rem ove the
ke y and re pe at the s tart attem pt.
If the control indicator fails to ex tinguish,
try to start the engine using the spare ke y
and cons ult a works hop.
Note
The im mobilise r does not lock the doors.
There fore , after le aving the ve hicle alwa ys
lock it. See pa ge 24.Remote co ntro l
Used to operate:

The rem ote control has a range of
approx. 3 m etres . This range can be
a f fe ct ed by o u t s i de i n f l u en ce s.
Handle the rem ote control with care,

op er a t i o n .

Fault
If the remote control d oe s not op erate
correctly , it may be due to the follow ing:
zThe range of the rem ote control has
been exceeded.
zRemote control b attery v olta ge is too
lo w . Se e " R em ot e co n t r ol ba t t er y
re place ment".
zFrequent, rep eated opera tion of the
re mote control outside the rece ption
ra nge of the vehicle (e .g. too far from the
vehicle, rem ote control is then no longer
recognised). See "Radio remote control
synchronisation".
zOve rloa ding the ce ntra l locking s yste m
by ope rating at freque nt inte rvals . The
power s upply m ay be interrupted for a
short time. The system is p rote cted by a
fus e in the fuse box – s ee page 1 41 .
zInt e r f er en ce f r o m h i g h er - p o w e r r a di o
waves from other sources.
To eliminate the cause of the fault, consult
a w orks hop.

Replace the battery in a ccord ance with the
cha pter " Servic e, M ainte nance" on
page 16 5 or w he n the range of the re mote
control be gins to decre ase .
Ope n rem ote c ontrol by ins erting a suitable
scre wdrive r into the notc h below
buttonU and prise apart the two halve s
of the rem ote control.Re move used b attery, tak ing ca re to avoid
touching any of the circ uitry.
Re place battery - batte ry type , se e
pag e 181 - ensuring the new b attery is
insta lled correctly with positive (+) side
facing up.
Close remote control.
Mak e sure that you dispose of old batteries
in accordance with e nv ironme ntal
protec tion regulations.
Ra dio remote control sy nchronisation
After c hanging the battery , unlock the
door with the key in the lock. Inse rting the
key in the ignition switch synchronises the
re mote control.

For doors only.
To unlock:
Press button c on remote control.
zDriv er’s door is unlocke d.
Press button c on remote control twice

zPassenger’ s door is unlocked.
When enab led through the driver
inform ation c entre pe rsonalis ation mode:
zHazard w arning lam ps fla sh twice .
zHorn a ctivates twice .
If button c is pres se d again after the doors
are unlocked, the hazard w arning la mps
may flash tw ic e to indicate the d oors are
alrea dy unlocked .To l o c k :
Close doors and windows before locking.
Pre ss button e on re mote control.
zBoth doors are locke d.
When enabled through the driver
information ce ntre pe rs onalisation mode :
zHaz ard warning lamps flash onc e.
zHorn activate s once .
If b utton e is pre ss e d again afte r the doors
are loc ked, the horn activate s once and the
ha zard warning lamp s m ay flash onc e to
indica te the doors are alre ady locke d. D e lay ed locki ng :

locking of the doors is de laye d until
5 seconds after the last door is c losed ,
whe n button e is p re sse d on the re mote
control.

the doors are locke d after the de lay.

Move switch in driv er’s door or pas se ng er’s
door to position e: doors are locked.
Move switch in driv er’s door or pas se ng er’s
door to position c: doors are unlocked .Note
zIf the ce ntra l locking s ys tem is locke d, the
doors c annot be unlocke d by p ulling the
interior handle.

automatically when an acc id ent of
a c ertain seve rity occurs (for outsid e
as sis tance), and the haz ard warning
lamp s com e on. The ke y mus t als o be
in the ig nition.Autom atic locking
The central locking s ys tem autom atically
locks the doors as s oon as a sp ee d of
app rox . 8 km/ h (5 mph) is reache d.
Fault
In the ev ent of a fault, e .g. autom atic
locking d oe sn’t take place, ens ure all the
doors have been properly closed.
If the automatic locking function still fa ils to
ope rate, we re comme nd that you cons ult a
workshop.
Autom atic unl ocking

unlocks either the drive r’s door or both
doors when the key is turne d to ignition
switch position J.

To unlock:
Turn ke y in drive r’ s door lock towards front
of vehicle as far as it will go. Turn ke y back
to a v ertical pos ition and remov e.
Both doors w ill be unlocke d.To l o c k :
Turn ke y in d riv er’s door lock toward s re ar
of ve hicle as far as it will go. Turn key back
to a ve rtic al position and re move .
Both d oors will be locke d.

To close
To clos e the lug gage compartme nt lid ,
stand behind the ve hicle and, with two
hands laid flat on the s urface of the lid,
close the lid with a swift, firm m otion.If the luggage comp artm ent lid is ope n or
i s n o t cl o s ed p r op er l y, "TRUNK AJAR" will
appea r in the drive r inform ation ce ntre
when the ig nition is on. Control indicator
s also illuminate s in the instrument
panel. Close luggage compartm ent lid.

The re mote control has both a v ehicle
locator and a panic alarm fe ature,
activa ted v ia button U.
To aid location of the vehicle, e.g. when the
ve hicle is park ed in a car park, pres s and
re le ase b utton U; the horn will sound
three times and the hazard warning lamps
and c ourte sy lamps will flas h thre e tim es .
To activa te the panic alarm, pres s and
hold the button for 3 se conds; the horn will
s ound and the hazard w arning lam ps and
courtes y lam ps will flash for 3 0 se conds.
Press button U a gain to sw itc h off the
panic alarm, or turn ke y in ignition s witch to
pos ition ACC or I.
The vehicle locator and panic a la rm
fe ature s are ope rational only with the
ignition off.9 Wa r ning
Ensure the soft top is properly stowe d
(s ee pag e 3 1 ) and e ns ure no obje cts a re
placed in the are a within the luggage
com partment in w hich the soft top is
st o r ed .

Do not drive with the luggag e
compa rtm ent ope n or ajar, e .g. whe n
transp orting bulky objects, to a void
causing damage to the vehicle.

Exterio r mirrors
Adjust us ing the switches in the driver’s
door. S elec t rele vant ex terior mirror and
adjus t.For the safe ty of pe destrians, the e xterior
mirrors will s wing out of their normal
mounting position if the y are bumped w ith
sufficient force. Reposition the mirror by
applying s light pres s ure to the m irror
ho u s i ng .
Interio r mirror
To adjust, swive l the mirror housing.
S wivel lever on underside of m irror housing
to re duce d azzle at night.
Take care when driving with interior mirror
adjus ted for night vision. Re ar v iew may be
s lightly dis torte d in this position.

The function standby after s witching off
the ig nition is cancelle d whe n the drive r’s
door is opened.The drive r’s and pas se nger’s window are
op erated via the switches located in the
driver’s door handle.
For increm ental ope ra tion, briefly pull or
pres s the s witch. To ope n or close fully , pull
or press the switch for longer.
For automatic ope ning , pre ss the switch
down fully . Pull the s witch to s top the
movem ent.
In the e vent of difficulty due to frost or
the like , pre ss the re lev ant wind ow sw itc h
several tim es until the window is closed.The pass e nge r’s window is operate d via a
switch in the door handle.
F or inc re me nta l operation, brie fly pull or
press the switch. To open or close fully, pull
or pre ss the switch for longer.

childre n.
Vehicle passengers should be informed
according ly .
Keep a close wa tch on the w indows when
closing them . Ensure that nothing
