● Ignition switch: turn key toposition 2.
Power button: press
Engine Start/Stop for a few
seconds until green LED
illuminates.
● Move the steering wheel slightly to release the steering wheel
lock.
● Manual transmission: operate clutch and brake pedal.
● Automatic transmission: operate brake pedal and move selector
lever to P or N.
● Do not operate accelerator pedal.
● Diesel engines: wait until control indicator ! for preheating
extinguishes.
● Ignition switch: turn key to position 3 and release.

Engine Start/Stop and release.
Starting the engine 3 137.Stop-start system
If the vehicle is at a low speed or at a
standstill and certain conditions are
fulfilled, activate an Autostop as
follows:
● Depress the clutch pedal.
● Shift the selector lever to N.
● Release the clutch pedal.
An Autostop is indicated by the
needle at the AUTOSTOP position in
the tachometer.
To restart the engine, depress the
clutch pedal again.

Adjust lumbar support using the four-way switch to suit personal
requirements.
Moving support up and down: push switch up or down.
Increasing and decreasing support:
push switch forwards or backwards.
Adjustable thigh support
Pull the lever and slide the thigh
support.
Heating
Adjust heating to the desired setting
by pressing ß for the respective seat
one or more times. The LED in the
button indicates the setting.
Prolonged use of the highest setting
for people with sensitive skin is not
recommended.
Seat heating is operational when
engine is running and during an
Autostop.

In addition to the heating and
ventilation system, the air
conditioning system has controls for:
n:cooling4:air recirculation
Cooling n
Press n to switch on cooling. The
LED in the button illuminates to
indicate activation. Cooling is only
functional when the engine is running and climate control fan is switched on.
Press n again to switch off cooling.
The air conditioning system cools and
dehumidifies (dries) as soon as the
outside temperature is above a
specific level. Therefore
condensation may form and drip from under the vehicle.
If no cooling or drying is required,
switch off the cooling system for fuel
saving reasons. Activated cooling
may inhibit Autostops.
Stop-start system 3 138.
Air recirculation system 4
Press 4 to activate air recirculation
mode. The LED in the button illuminates to indicate activation.
Press 4 again to deactivate air
recirculation mode.9 Warning
The exchange of fresh air is
reduced in air recirculation mode.
In operation without cooling the air humidity increases, so the
windows may mist up from inside.
The quality of the passenger
compartment air deteriorates,
which may cause the vehicle
occupants to feel drowsy.
In warm and very humid ambient air conditions, the windscreen may mist
up from outside when cold air is
directed towards it. If windscreen
mists up from outside, activate
windscreen wiper and deactivate l.
Maximum cooling
Briefly open the windows so that hot
air can disperse quickly.
● Switch on cooling n.
● Air recirculation system 4 on.
● Press air distribution switch M.
● Set temperature control to coldest level.
● Set fan speed to highest level.
● Open all vents.

● Press n to switch on cooling.
● Set the desired temperature.
Temperature preselection
Temperatures can be set to the
desired value.
If the minimum temperature is set, the climate control system runs at
maximum cooling.
If the maximum temperature is set,
the climate control system runs at
maximum heating.
Note
If the temperature is to be reduced for climate comfort reasons, an
Autostop may be inhibited or the
engine will restart automatically
when cooling is switched on.
Stop-start system 3 138.The temperature can be adjusted
separately for driver and front
passenger side.
Demisting and defrosting the
windows V
● Press V.
● Temperature and air distribution are set automatically and the fan
runs at high speed.
● Switch on heated rear window Ü.
● To return to previous mode: press V, to return to automatic
mode: press AUTO.
Note
If V is pressed while the engine is
running, an Autostop will be inhibited
until V is pressed again.
If l is pressed with the fan switched
on and the engine running, an
Autostop will be inhibited until l is
pressed again or until the fan is
switched off.If V is pressed while the engine is
in an Autostop, the engine will restart automatically.
If l is pressed with the fan switched
on while the engine is in an
Autostop, the engine will restart
automatically.

Manual settings
Climate control system settings can be changed by activating the buttons
and rotary knobs as follows.
Changing a setting will deactivate the automatic mode.
Fan speed Z
The selected fan speed is indicated
with x and a number in the display. If
the fan is switched off, the air
conditioning is also deactivated.
To return to automatic mode: Press AUTO .
Air distribution l, M , K
Press appropriate button for desired
adjustment. The LED in the button
illuminates to indicate activation.

Deactivate corresponding setting or

Press n again to switch off cooling.

or cooling in the system can be used for climate control in passenger
compartment.
Auxiliary heater
Air heater Quickheat is an electric auxiliary air
heater which automatically warms up
the passenger compartment more
quickly.

Steering wheel lock The steering wheel lock activates
automatically when:
● The vehicle is stationary.
● The ignition has been switched off.
● The driver's door is opened.
To release steering wheel lock, open
and close driver's door and switch on accessory mode or start the engine
directly.9 Warning
If the vehicle battery is discharged,
the vehicle must not be towed,
tow-started or jump-started as the
steering wheel lock cannot be
disengaged.
Operation on vehicles with
electronic key system in case of
failure
If either the electronic key fails or the
battery of the electronic key is weak,
the Driver Information Centre may
display No Remote Detected or
Replace Battery in Remote Key when
you try to start the vehicle.
1. Place the electronic key in the front cupholder of the centreconsole. Place the electronic key
solely centred in the transmitter
area in longitudinal direction flat
with buttons upside as shown in
the illustration.
2. With the vehicle in P (Park) or N
(Neutral), depress the brake
pedal and press
Engine Start/Stop .
Replace the transmitter battery as
soon as possible.
Retained power off The following electronic systems can
work up to ten minutes after the
engine is turned off
● Power windows
● Sunroof
● Audio system
The power windows and sunroof will
continue to work for up to ten minutes or until any door is opened. The radio
will work in ignition on power mode
and accessory power mode. Once
the ignition is turned off, the radio will
continue to work for ten minutes, or
until the driver's door is opened.

Vehicles with ignition switch
Turn key to position 1 to release the
steering wheel lock.
Manual transmission: depress clutch and brake pedal.
Automatic transmission: depress
brake pedal and move the selector
lever to P or N.
Do not depress the accelerator pedal.
Diesel engine: turn the key to position2 for preheating and wait until control
indicator ! extinguishes.
Turn the key briefly to position 3 and
release: an automatic procedure operates the starter with a short delay
as long as the engine is running, see
'Automatic Starter Control'.
Manual transmission: during an
Autostop, the engine can be restarted
by depressing the clutch pedal
3 138.
Automatic transmission: during an
Autostop, the engine can be restarted
by releasing the brake pedal 3 138.
Vehicles with power button
Manual transmission: depress clutch
and brake pedal.
Automatic transmission: depress
brake pedal and move selector lever
to P or N.
Do not depress accelerator pedal.
Press and release Engine Start/Stop:
an automatic procedure operates the starter with a short delay until the engine is running, see 'Automatic
