Climate control
Air conditioning regular
operation
In order to ensure continuously
efficient performance, cooling must
be operated for a few minutes once
a month, irrespective of the weather
and time of year. Operation with
cooling is not possible when outside
temperature is low.
Service
For
optimal cooling performance, it is
recommended that the climate control
system be checked annually, starting
three years after initial vehicle
registration.

■ Cleaning of condenser and evaporator drainage

The specification of CO 2 emission is
also a constituent of the directive.
The figures given must not be taken
as a guarantee for the actual fuel
consumption of a particular vehicle.
Furthermore, fuel consumption is
dependent on personal driving style
as
well as road and traffic conditions.
All values are based on the EU base
model with standard equipment.
The calculation of fuel consumption
takes account of the vehicle’s kerb
weight, ascertained in accordance
with the regulations. Options may
result in slightly higher fuel
consumption and CO 2 emission
levels and a lower top speed.

3 213. Natural gas
The fuel consumption information
was obtained using reference fuel
G20 (methane proportion 99 - 100
mol%) under prescribed driving
conditions. When using natural gas
with a lower proportion of methane,
the fuel consumption can differ from
the specified values.
Towing
General information
Only use towing equipment that has
been approved for your vehicle.
Entrust retrofitting of towing
equipment to a workshop. It may be
necessary to make changes that
affect the cooling system, heat
shields or other equipment.

Driving characteristics and
towing tips
Before attaching a trailer, lubricate
the
coupling ball. However, do not do
so if a stabiliser, which acts on the
coupling ball, is being used to reduce
snaking movements.
For trailers with low driving stability
and trailers with a permitted gross
vehicle weight of more than 1300 kg
a speed of 80 km/h must not be
exceeded; the use of a stabiliser is
recommended.

headlamps use extremely high
voltage. Do not touch.
The caps for topping up the engine oil,
the

coolant, the washing fluid and the
oil dipstick handle are yellow for ease
of identification.

157When the engine oil level has
dropped to the
MIN mark, top up
engine oil. We recommend to use the same
engine oil that is filled in.
The engine oil level must not exceed
the MAX mark on the dipstick.
Caution
Overfilled engine oil must be
drained or suctioned out.
Capacities

Fit the cap on straight and tighten it.
Engine coolant
The coolant provides freeze
protection down to approx. -28 °C. Caution
Only use approved anti-freeze.
Coolant level
Caution
Too low a coolant level can cause
engine damage. If the cooling system is cold, the
coolant level should be above the
KALT/COLD
mark. Top up if the level
is low. 9
Warning Allow the engine to cool before
opening the cap. Carefully open
the cap, relieving the pressure
slowly.
Top up with anti-freeze. If no anti-
freeze is available, use clean tap
water

or distilled water. Install the cap
tightly. Have the anti-freeze

If there is more wear at the front than
the rear, swap round front wheels and
rear wheels.
Tyres age, even if they are not used.
We recommend tyre replacement
every 6 years.
Changing tyre and wheel
size
If tyres of a different size than those
fitted at the factory are used, it may be
necessary to reprogram the
speedometer and make other vehicle
modifications.
After converting to a different tyre
size, have the label with tyre
pressures replaced. 9
Warning Use of unsuitable tyres or wheels
may lead to accidents and will
invalidate the vehicle type
approval. Wheel covers
Wheel covers and tyres that are
factory approved for the respective
vehicle and comply with all of the
relevant wheel and tyre combination
requirements must be used.
If
the wheel covers and tyres used are
not factory approved, the tyres must
not have a beaded edge.
Wheel covers must not impair brake
cooling.
Remove the wheel covers if tyre
chains are to be installed. 9
Warning Use of unsuitable tyres or wheel
covers could lead to sudden
pressure loss and thereby
accidents. Tyre chains
Tyre chains are only permitted on the
front wheels.
Always

use fine mesh chains that add
no more than 10 mm to the tyre tread
and the inboard sides (including chain
lock). 9
Warning Damage may lead to tyre blowout.
Tyre chains are not permitted on tyres
of size 225/40 R 18, 225/40 ZR 18
and 235/35 R 19.
