SIDE AIR BAGS AND
CURTAIN AIR BAGS
The side air bags are incorporated
into the front seat backs on the door
side.
The triggering of these air bags re-
quires a serious side impact applied
in the side impact zone B, perpen-
dicular to the longitudinal centreline
of the vehicle, on a horizontal plane
and from the outside of the vehicle
towards the inside. The side air bag
i n l a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t o c c u p a n t
of the vehicle and the door trim pad.
It therefore limits the risk of injury to
the chest.
The rear side air bags afford the rear
passengers the same protection
which the front side air bags offer the
front passengers. If the passenger air bag is
disarmed, the warning light
on the instrument panel re-
mains on until the passenger
air bag is reactivated.
If this warning light comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multifunction display,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the
event of a serious impact.
D i s a r m i n g ( c h e c k )
The curtain air bags are incorporated
in the headlining.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n l a t e s b e t w e e n
the front or rear occupant and the
windows. It therefore limits the risk of
head injuries. In the event of a minor
impact or bump on the side of the ve-
hicle or if the vehicle rolls over, the
air bag may not be triggered. The air
bag is not triggered in the event of a
front or rear collision.

F W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h e d o f f ,
insert the key into the passenger
air bag disarming switch 1, turn
it to the "OFF" position, then
remove the key keeping the
switch in this position.
In the "OFF" position, the passen-
ger air bag will not be triggered in the
event of an impact.
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the air bag switch to the "ON"
position to re-activate the air bag and
thus ensure the safety of your pas-

The warning light comes
on each time the ignition is
switched on.
It remains on until the driver fastens
his seat belt.
Above 12 mph (20 km/h), the warning
l i g h t l a s h e s f o r t w o m i n u t e s a c c o m p a -
nied by an increasingly audible signal
and a message on the multifunction
display. Once these two minutes have
elapsed, the warning light remains lit
until the driver's seat belt is fastened.

pre-tensioner and force
limiter
Safety in the event of front impacts
has been improved by the introduc-
tion of seat belts with pre-tensioner
and force limiter for the front seats.
Depending on the seriousness of the
impact, the pre-tensioning system
instantly tightens the seat belts and
pulls them against the bodies of the
occupants. The pre-tensioning seat belts are ac-
tive when the ignition is on.
The force limiter eases the pressure
of the seat belt on the body of the oc-
cupant in the event of an accident.
Rear seat belts

The driver must ensure
that the passengers use
the seat belts correctly and
that they are all properly re-
strained before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles
a s t h e y w i l l n o t f u l i l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
If the seats have armrests*, the lap
part of the seat belt must always
pass under the armrest.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n i n -
ertia reel permitting automatic ad-
justment of the length of the strap
to your size. The seat belt is stored
automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that
the seat belt is rolled up correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on
the pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned
in the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n
automatic locking device which
comes into operation in the event of
a collision, on emergency braking
or if the vehicle rolls over. You can
release the device by pulling rapidly
on the strap and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one adult only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement,
checking that it does not twist,
- must not be transformed or m o d i i e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s
performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and rolled up correctly. Recommendations for
c h i l d r e n :
- use a suitable child seat if the
passenger is less than 12 years
old or shorter than one metre
i f t y ,
- do not use the strap-guide* when a child seat is installed.
- never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap.
D e p e n d i n g o n t h e n a t u r e a n d s e -
r i o u s n e s s o f t h e i m p a c t s , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the
air bags. Triggering of the pre-ten-
sioners is accompanied by a slight
emission of harmless smoke and a
noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system.
In all cases, the air bag warning
light comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if nec-
essary replaced, by a PEUGEOT
dealer.

TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT, ETC.
We recommend the use of original
PEUGEOT towbars and their har-
nesses that have been tested and
approved from the design stage of
y o u r v e h i c l e a n d t h a t t h e i t t i n g o f t h e
towbar is entrusted to a PEUGEOT
dealer.
I f t h e t o w b a r i s n o t i t t e d b y a P E U G E O T
d e a l e r , i t i s i m p e r a t i v e t h a t i t i s i t t e d u s -
ing the electrical pre-equipment installed
at the rear of the vehicle, in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions.
Your vehicle is primarily designed
for transporting people and luggage
but it may also be used for towing a
trailer.
Driving with a trailer subjects the tow-
i n g v e h i c l e t o m o r e s i g n i i c a n t s t r e s s
and its driver must be particularly
careful.
Air density decreases with altitude,
thus reducing engine performance.

Distribution of loads:
Distribute the
load in the trailer so that the heaviest
items are as close as possible to the
axle and the nose weight approach-
es the maximum permitted without
exceeding it.
Cooling: Towing a trailer on a slope
increases the temperature of the
coolant.
As the fan is electrically controlled,
its cooling capacity is not dependent
on the engine speed.
On the contrary, use a high gear to
lower the engine speed and reduce
your speed.
The maximum towing load on a long
slope depends on the gradient and
the outside temperature. In all cases, pay attention to the cool-
ant temperature.
In certain cases of particularly ardu-
o u s u s e ( t o w i n g t h e m a x i m u m l o a d
on a steep gradient in high tempera-
tures), switching off the air condition-
ing permits the recovery of engine
power and therefore an increase in
the towing capacity.
If the warning light comes on, stop
the vehicle and switch off the engine
as soon as possible.
Tyres :
Check the tyre pressures of
the towing vehicle and of the trailer,
observing the recommended pres-
sures.
Braking : Towing increases the brak-
ing distance.
Lights : Check the electrical signal-
ling on the trailer.
Side wind : Take into account the in-
creased sensitivity to side wind.

The GTW and towing load values indicated are valid for a maximum altitude of 1000 metres; the towing load men-
tioned must be reduced by 10 % for every additional 1000 metre s.
In the case of a towing vehicle, the speed must not exceed 6 0 mph (100 km/h) (comply with the legislation in force in your
country).
High exterior temperatures may result in a reduction in the perfo rmance of the vehicle to protect the engine; when the
exterior temperature is higher than 37 °C, limit the towed l oad.
* The weight of the braked trailer may be increased, within the GTW limit, on condition that the GVW of the towing
vehicle is reduced by the same amount; warning, towing with a lightly loaded towing vehicle may have an adverse
effect on its road holding ability.
