ANTI-LOCK BRAKING
SYSTEM (ABS) AND
ELECTRONIC BRAKE
FORCE DISTRIBUTION
(EBFD)
The ABS, in conjunction with the
electronic brake force distribution,
increases the stability and manoeu-
vrability of your vehicle on braking,
in particular on poor or slippery road
surfaces.
When changing wheels (tyres and
rims), make sure that these are ap-
proved.
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
there is a risk of wheel lock.
EMERGENCY BRAKING
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system ena-
bles the optimum braking pressure to
be reached more quickly, thus reduc-
ing the stopping distance.
It is triggered by the speed at which
the brake pedal is activated. The ef-
fect of this is a reduction in the resist-
ance of the pedal and an increase in
b r a k i n g e f i c i e n c y .
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s i r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.
Depending on the force of the decel-
eration, the hazard warning lights are
switched on automatically. They are
switched off automatically on accel-
eration.
When this warning light
comes on, accompanied by
a buzzer and a message, it
indicates that there is a mal-
function of the ABS, which can cause
a loss of control of the vehicle when
braking. When this warning light
comes on, connected to the
STOP
warning light, accom-
panied by a buzzer and a
message, it indicates that there is a
malfunction of the electronic brake
force distribution, which can cause
a loss of control of the vehicle when
braking.
Stop immediately.
In both cases, consult a PEUGEOT
dealer.
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibrations
of the brake pedal.
In emergency braking, press
v e r y i r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e

The driver must ensure
that the passengers use
the seat belts correctly and
that they are all properly re-
strained before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles
a s t h e y w i l l n o t f u l i l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
If the seats have armrests*, the lap
part of the seat belt must always
pass under the armrest.
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n i n -
ertia reel permitting automatic ad-
justment of the length of the strap
to your size. The seat belt is stored
automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that
the seat belt is rolled up correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on
the pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned
in the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n
automatic locking device which
comes into operation in the event of
a collision, on emergency braking
or if the vehicle rolls over. You can
release the device by pulling rapidly
on the strap and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one adult only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement,
checking that it does not twist,
- must not be transformed or m o d i i e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s
performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and rolled up correctly. Recommendations for
c h i l d r e n :
- use a suitable child seat if the
passenger is less than 12 years
old or shorter than one metre
i f t y ,
- do not use the strap-guide* when a child seat is installed.
- never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap.
D e p e n d i n g o n t h e n a t u r e a n d s e -
r i o u s n e s s o f t h e i m p a c t s , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the
air bags. Triggering of the pre-ten-
sioners is accompanied by a slight
emission of harmless smoke and a
noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system.
In all cases, the air bag warning
light comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if nec-
essary replaced, by a PEUGEOT
dealer.

Fitting / removing the
mat
When removing the mat on the driv-
er's side, push the seat as far back
a s p o s s i b l e a n d r e m o v e t h e i x i n g s .
W h e n r e i t t i n g , p o s i t i o n t h e m a t c o r -
r e c t l y o n t h e p i n a n d c l i p t h e i x i n g s .
Check that the mat is secured cor-
rectly.
To prevent the mat from becoming
caught under the pedals:
- only use mats suited to the i x i n g s a l r e a d y p r e s e n t i n t h e
vehicle. It is imperative that
t h e s e i x i n g s a r e u s e d .
- n e v e r i t o n e m a t o n t o p o f another. - Clean off bird
droppings, resinous
deposits, tar stains and
grease marks as soon
a s p o s s i b l e ; ( t h e s e a l l c o n t a i n substances which can cause
serious damage to the
paintwork).
- Do not use a dry or abrasive cloth or detergent or solvent
products to clean the double
lens, complex surface
h e a d l a m p s a s t h e y a r e i t t e d
with polycarbonate glass
covered in a protective
i n i s h .
- Do not use petrol, oil or cloth stain removers to clean the
bodywork and plastic parts of
your vehicle.
- To prevent the development of bodywork corrosion as a
result of accidental damage
( s t o n e c h i p s , s c r a t c h e s , e t c . )
have them repaired swiftly.
BODYWORK MAINTENANCE
To preserve the paintwork and the
plastic trim on your vehicle, we recom-
mend that you wash them regularly.
- b y h a n d : t h e r e a r e n o s p e c i i c precautions to take;
- using an automatic car wash: repeated use of poorly
maintained automatic car
washes can lead to the
appearance of microscopic
scratches which give the
paintwork a matt appearance
( e s p e c i a l l y v i s i b l e o n d a r k
colours);
- using a high pressure washer: always follow the
recommendations on the
e q u i p m e n t ( p r e s s u r e a n d
spraying distance).
If there are damaged areas on t h e v e h i c l e ( p a i n t e d b u m p e r s
or headlamps), it is not
recommended to direct the high
pressure jet onto them. Wash
these areas by hand.
Also avoid the entry of water into the locks.
