SAFETY

For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
p e t , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r t h e
o p e r a t i o n o f t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e t h e
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
tioned above are observed, a risk of
i n j u r y o r o f s l i g h t b u r n s t o t h e h e a d ,
chest or arms when an airbag is trig-
gered cannot be ruled out. In fact, the
b a g i n fl a t e s a l m o s t i n s t a n t l y ( w i t h i n a
f e w m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n
the same time discharging hot gas via
the openings provided for this pur-
pose. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resti
ng your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.
Smoke as little as possible as deployment of the airbags can cau se burns or the
r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a c i g a r e t t e o r p i p e .
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Side airbags *
O n l y p u t a p p r o v e d c o v e r s o n t h e s e a t s . T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r t h e i n fl a t i o n o f t h e
side airbags. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e s e a t b a c k s . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e
c h e s t o r a r m s w h e n t h e s i d e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nea rer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbags *
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e r o o f . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d
w h e n t h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not remove the grab handles installed on the ro of, they play a part in securing
the curtain airbags.

BONNET
Protects the components of the engine and provides access for checking levels.
Push the exterior control B to the left and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the strut C from its housing.
Fix the strut in one of the two notchesto hold the bonnet open.
Closing
Take the strut out of the support notch.
Clip the strut in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at the end of its travel.
Pull on the bonnet to check that it is secured correctly.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
(DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a n H D I engine, the fuel circuit must be reprimed if you run out of fuel (refer to the corre-sponding graphic).
This system consists of a repriming pump and a transparent pipe.
Opening
Open the front left door.
Pull the interior control A , located at the bottom of the door frame.
1.4 litre Turbo HDI engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Close the bonnet.
1.6 litre Turbo HDI 16V engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Unclip the style cover to gain access to the repriming pump.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe with the green connector.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Put the style cover back in position and clip it in place.
Close the bonnet.

CHANGING A WHEEL *
Procedure for changing a faulty wheel
for the spare wheel using the tools pro-
vided with the vehicle.
The tools are installed in the boot under
t h e fl o o r .

s e c u r e i t b y h o o k i n g t h e c o r d ( s ) o n
t h e h o o k ( s ) o n t h e r e a r s h e l f s u p p o r t ,
r e m o v e t h e b o x c o n t a i n i n g t h e t o o l s .
Access to the tools

1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim a n d r e m o v a l o f t h e w h e e l fi x i n g
bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. "Bolt cover" tool.
Permits removal of the bolt pro- t e c t o r s ( c o v e r s ) o n a l l o y w h e e l s .
4. Socket for the security bolts (lo-
c a t e d i n t h e g l o v e b o x ) .
Permits adaptation of the wheel- brace to the special "security"
bolts.
5. Removable towing eye.
Refer to the paragraph "Towing
the vehicle".
Other accessories
Wheel with trim
When removing the wheel , detach
t h e t r i m fi r s t u s i n g t h e w h e e l b r a c e 1
pulling at the valve passage hole.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g t h e w h e e l , r e fi t t h e
trim starting by placing its notch
facing the valve and press around
its edge with the palm of your
hand.
A l l o f t h e s e t o o l s a r e s p e c i fi c t o y o u r
vehicle. Do not use them for other
purposes.

Access to the spare wheel
(Saloon)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
To gain access to it, refer to the paragraph
"Access to the tools" on the previous
page. Fitting the steel spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l -
loy wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t t i n g ,
that the washers do not come into
contact with the steel spare wheel.
The wheel is secured by the coni-
cal contact of each bolt. Taking out the wheel
Unscrew the yellow central bolt.
Raise the spare wheel towards you
from the rear.
Take the wheel out of the boot.
Putting the wheel back in place
Put the wheel back in its housing.
Unscrew the yellow central bolt by a
few turns then put it in place in the
centre of the wheel.
Tighten fully until the central bolt
clicks to retain the wheel correctly.

Access to the spare wheel (SW)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
To gain access to it, refer to the para-
graph "Access to the tools". Fitting the steel spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l -
loy wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t t i n g ,

Parking the vehicle
Immobilise the vehicle where it
d o e s n o t b l o c k t r a f fi c : t h e g r o u n d
must be level, stable and non-slip-
pery.
Apply the handbrake, switch off the
i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t g e a r * t o
lock the wheels.
If necessary, place a chock under
the wheel diagonally opposite the
wheel to be changed.
It is imperative that you ensure that
the occupants get out of the vehicle
and wait where they are safe.
Never go underneath a vehicle
r a i s e d u s i n g a j a c k ; u s e a n a x l e
stand.
Removing the wheel
List of operations
Remove the chromed bolt cover from
each of the bolts using the tool 3 .
If your vehicle is equipped with
t h i s , fi t t h e s e c u r i t y s o c k e t 4 on the
wheelbrace 1 to slacken the security
bolt.
Slacken the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
Place the jack 2 in contact with one
of the two front A or rear B locations
provided on the underframe, which-
ever is closest to the wheel to be
changed.
E x t e n d t h e j a c k 2 until its base plate
is in contact with the ground. Ensure
that the centreline of the jack base
plate is directly below the location A
or B used.
Raise the vehicle until there is suf-
fi c i e n t s p a c e b e t w e e n t h e w h e e l a n d
the ground to admit the spare (not
p u n c t u r e d ) w h e e l e a s i l y .
Remove the bolts and store them in
a clean place.
Remove the wheel.
