When the engine is running or the vehi-
cle is moving, the lighting of one of the
following warning lights indicates the oc-
currence of a fault which requires action
on the part of the driver. Centralised alert.
Lighting of the centralised alert
is associated with the lighting
of another warning light:
- punctured wheel,
- braking,
- engine oil pressure,
- coolant temperature.
It is imperative that the vehicle is
stopped as soon as it is safe to do so. Service.
Lighting of the service warning
light indicates the occurrence of
a problem in one of the systems
w h i c h d o e s n o t h a v e a s p e c i i c
warning light.
To identify the problem, consult the
message on the multifunction display.
After checking:
- the remote control battery,
- the engine oil level,
- the screenwash level,
for other cases, contact a PEUGEOT
dealer.
Punctured tyre.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates that one or more tyres
are punctured. It is imperative
that the vehicle is stopped as soon as it
is safe to do so.
Change the damaged wheel and have it
repaired by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Anti-lock braking system
(ABS).
The lighting of this warning light
indicates the occurrence of a
fault in the anti-lock braking
system.
However, this does not prevent the op-
eration of the vehicle's assisted braking.
Any fault resulting in the lighting of
a warning light must be the subject
of further diagnostics by reading
the associated message on the
multifunction display.
If a problem arises, do not hesitate
to contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

fault in the engine management system.
Flashing of this warning light indicates
the occurrence of a fault in the emission
control system.
Engine oil pressure.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates the occurrence of a
fault in the engine lubrication
circuit. It is imperative that the vehicle is
stopped as soon as it is safe to do so. Battery charge.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates the occurrence of a
fault in the battery charging cir-
cuit (dirty or loose terminals, slack or
cut alternator belt, ...).
Braking.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates the occurrence of a fault
in one of the braking systems:
- significant drop in the level in the circuit,
- electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) faulty (if lit at the same time
as the ABS warning light).
It is imperative that the vehicle is
stopped as soon as it is safe to do so.
If the vehicle is moving, check that the
handbrake has been released fully.
Low fuel level.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates that there is enough
fuel left to drive approximately
30 miles (50 km).
The capacity of the fuel tank is approxi-
mately 50 litres.
Maximum coolant
temperature.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates an excessively high
temperature in the cooling system. It is
imperative that the vehicle is stopped
as soon as it is safe to do so. Door open.
A door, the boot, the rear screen
or the bonnet is still open:
- if the speed is below 6 mph (10 km/h), this warning light comes on continu-
ously,
-
if the speed is above 6 mph (10 km/h),
this warning light comes on continuous-
ly, accompanied by an audible sig
nal.
Seat belt not fastened /
unfastened.
The lighting of this warning light
indicates that the driver * and/or
the front passenger has not fastened
his seat belt or has unfastened it.
It also indicates that one or more rear
passengers have unfastened their seat
belt.

SAFETY
102
The ESP/ASR systems offer ex-
ceptional safety in normal driving,
but this should not encourage the
driver to take extra risks or drive at
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
dations regarding the wheels (tyres
and rims), the braking components,
the electronic components and the
PEUGEOT assembly and opera-
tion procedures.
After an impact, have these sys-
tems checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer.
Disarming
In exceptional conditions (starting a
vehicle which is bogged down, stuck
in snow, on soft ground, ...), it may be
advisable to disarm the ASR and ESP
systems, so that the wheels can move
freely and regain grip.
Press the "ESP OFF" button, located
in the centre of the fascia.
If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel and the in-
dicator light on the button comes
on, this indicates that the ASR
and ESP systems are disarmed.
Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automa-
tically each time the ignition is switched
back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h) (ex-
cept in the case of the 1.6 l 16V THP
175 bhp petrol engine).
Press the "ESP OFF" button again
to reactivate them manually.
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the mul-
tifunction display, this indicates
a malfunction of these systems.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the
systems checked.
TRAJECTORY CONTROL
SYSTEMS
Activation
These systems are activated automati-
cally each time the vehicle is started.
Anti-skid regulation (ASR) and
electronic stability programme
(ESP)
The anti-skid regulation optimises trac-
tion to prevent skidding of the wheels,
by acting on the brakes of the driving
wheels and on the engine.
The electronic stability programme acts
on the brake of one or more wheels and
on the engine to keep the vehicle on the

ment panel. Steering/ESP coupling system
(SSP)
This system optimises the stability of
the vehicle and its braking capacity by
combining the actions of the ESP and
electric power steering when braking on
surfaces on which the grip of the right-
hand and left-hand wheel differs.
It permits increased braking of the
wheels which are in contact with the
section of road offering the higher level
of grip and, anticipating the instability of
the vehicle, the application of a slight
correction to the turning angle of the
wheels to assist the driver in maintain-
i n g h i s t r a j e c t o r y .
