RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APPROVED LUBRICANTS The oils which appear in the table opposite are suitable for most pur-poses. The diagram opposite states the optimum range of viscosity depen-ding on the temperatures at whichthe oils are to be used. It is also possible to use "superior quality" synthetic oils. In the absence of semi-synthetic or
synthetic oils, oils of API SH/SJ qua-lity (for petrol engines), or CD/CFquality (for diesel engines) may beused by following the "ArduousConditions" servicing schedule, which specifies shorter intervals. Do not hesitate to ask for advice
from a PEUGEOT dealer to maintaindriving pleasure and to minimise themaintenance cost of your vehicle. For countries outside Europe, please
contact a local PEUGEOT dealer.

"Top up coolant" on the multi-function display.
Stop immediately.
Warning: Allow the engine to cool before topping up.Central STOP warning light This comes on each time the ignition is switched on. It is linked to the "engine oil pressure", ''oil temperature'', ''coolant level low'', ''brakefluid level'', ''electronic brake force distribution fault'', and ''coolant
temperature gauge'' warning lights. The flashing of the STOPwarning light is activated if one of the doors or the boot
is open. A diagram also appears on the multi-function display for a few seconds, accompanied by an audible signal. In this case, it is not essential that you stop,if you do not wish to do so (for example when transporting long objects). A permanently lit warning light or one that flashes with the engine running, indicates an operating fault in the relevant unit. Some warning lights may
be linked to buzzers and a message on the multifunction display. Do notignore this warning: contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.
If the Central STOP warning light comes on when you are driving, stop immediately where it is safe to do so. The cooling system is pressurised.
To prevent the risk of scalding, uns- crew the cap by two turns to allowthe pressure to drop. Once the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top up the level.

Handbrake and low brake fluid levelwarning light Linked to the central STOP
warning light. This comes on each time the ignition is switched on. Illumination of this light is accompa- nied by an audible signal and a mes-sage on the multi-function displayindicating the cause of the warning: - ''Handbrake on'' , if the handbrake
is applied or has not been released
correctly,
- ''Low brake fluid level'' if there is
an excessive drop in the brakefluid (if the light remains on evenwith the handbrake released),
- "Brake system problem'' is dis-
played simultaneously with theABS light, indicating a malfunctionof the electronic brake force distri-bution.

Instrument panel display After switching on the ignition, three functions are shown in succession:
- service indicator (see corresponding section),
- engine oil level indicator,
- total distance recorder (total and trip distances).Note:the total and trip distances are displayed for 30 seconds when the ignition
is switched off, on opening the driver's door, as well as on locking and unlocking the vehicle. Engine oil level indicator When the ignition is switched on, the engine oil level is indicated for approxima- tely 10 seconds, after the servicing information.
Maximum Check the level using the dipstick to confirm whether the display is correct; a surplus of oil can cause damage to the engine.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without delay. Minimum
Check the level with the dipstick and top it up. The figure shown is only correct if the vehicle has been on stable, level ground, withthe engine stopped, for 10 minutes. 4. Air flow adjustment Turn the control from posi- tion 1to position 4to obtain
an air flow sufficient toensure your comfort.
5. Air intake Pressing button 5permits
recirculation of the interior
air. Recirculation, indicatedby illumination of the indica-
tor light, prevents exterior odoursand smoke from entering the pas-senger compartment. Used simultaneously with the air conditioning, recirculation enablesheating and cooling performance tobe improved. Used in a humid climate, recircula- tion may result in misting of the win-dows. As soon as possible, place button 5
in the outside air position, to prevent
deterioration of the air quality. The
indicator light switches off.
3. Air distribution adjustment
Windscreen and side win-dows (de-icing/demisting).
To quickly de-ice or demist the wind-screen and side windows:
Ð Place the temperature and air flow controls to maximum,
Ð Close the centre vents,
Ð Place air intake control 5to the
"Outside Air" position (button 5
released, indicator light off),
Ð Start the air conditioning by pres- sing the AC button.
Windscreen, side windows and footwells.
Footwells.
Centre and side vents. 6. Demisting the rear screen
With the engine running, pressing the button oncedemists the rear screenand the mirrors.
This switches off automati-
cally after approximately twelve minutes. Pressing again activatesdemisting for a further twelveminutes. It is possible to stop demisting by pressing the button again before theend of the twelve minutes. Important precaution Operate the air conditioning system for 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice amonth, to keep it in perfect working
order. If the system does not produce cold
air, do not activate it and contact a
PEUGEOT dealer. Note: to optimise the operation of

CHILD SEATS Although one of PEUGEOT's main concerns when designing your vehicle, the safety of your children also depends on you.
For maximum safety, please follow these precautions:
- All children under the age of 10 must travel in a special approved child seat*, adapted to their weight, in a seat fitted with
a seat belt.
- Front passenger seat*: children under the age of 10 must not travel in the "forwards facing" position**.The "rearwards facing" position is permitted. In this position, it is compulsory to disarm the passenger air bag.
After carrying out numerous tests, PEUGEOT recommends the following systems: Up to 18 months (up to 13 kg)
"Ršmer Babysure": installed with its back to the engine in the front or in the rear using a three-point seat belt. In the front, the passenger seat must be in the "mid-way"position on the slide.
From 9 months to 3 or 4 years (9 to 18 kg) "Ršmer Prince": installed in the rear using a three-point seat belt. For the safety of your child, the seat and the restraining cushion must never be separated.
From 3 to 6 years (15 to 25 kg) "Ršmer Vario'': installed in the rear with a three point seat belt.
