ROLL-OVER BARS
System which protects all of the oc-
cupants restrained by their seat belt
should the vehicle roll over.
The roll-over bars are incorporated in
the back of the rear bench seat. Their
presence is indicated by the words
"Rollover Protection".
Activation
They are triggered simultaneously
should the vehicle roll over.
Operating fault If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a
message on the multifunction dis-
play, contact a PEUGEOT dealer
to have the system checked. In order to guarantee the correct
operation and the deployment of
the roll-over bars if roll-over is de-
tected, the following conditions
must be complied with:
- no accessory which is not
recommended by PEUGEOT
should be in contact with or
fi x e d t o t h e r o l l - o v e r b a r s ,
- no object should block or stop the movement of the roll-over bars,
- the area above the roll-over bars should be clear of any objects.

SEAT BELTS
Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the front
seats in the event of a front impact.
Depending on the severity of the im-
pact, the pretensioning system instantly
tightens the seat belts against the body
of the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt on the chest of the occu-
pant, so increasing his protection. Seat belt not fastened/unfastened
warning light
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap.
When the ignition is switched on,
this warning light comes on, either
on the instrument panel or on the
seat belt and passenger's front air
bag warning lights display, if the
driver and/or the front passenger has not
fastened his seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt as it rolls up.
1. Front and/or rear seat belts not fas-
tened/unfastened warning light.
2. Front left seat belt warning light.
3. Front right seat belt warning light.
4. Rear right seat belt warning light.
5. Rear left seat belt warning light.
Seat belt not fastened/unfastened
warning lights display
The corresponding warning light
2 or 3
comes on in red on the seat belt and
passenger's front air bag warning lights
display if the seat belt is not fastened or
is unfastened.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)

accompanied by an audible signal of in-
creasing volume. Once these two minutes
have elapsed, this warning light remains
on until the driver and/or the front pas-
senger fastens his seat belt.

Rear seat belts

force limiter. Seat belt unfastened warning light This warning light comes on,
either on the instrument panel
or on the seat belt and passen-
ger's front air bag warning lights
display, when one or more rear passen-
gers unfasten their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h),
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n u t e s
accompanied by an audible signal of in-
creasing volume. Once these two min-
utes have elapsed, this warning light
remains on until the one or more rear
passengers fasten their seat belt.
Fastening
Remove the strap from the guide
A
before use.
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap. Seat belt unfastened warning lights

When the ignition is switched on, with
the engine running or the vehicle mov-
ing at a speed below approximately
12 mph (20 km/h), the corresponding
warning lights
4 and 5 come on in red
for approximately 30 seconds, if the
seat belt is not fastened.
When the vehicle is moving at a speed
of more than approximately 12 mph
(20 km/h), the corresponding warning
light 4 or 5 comes on in red, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a message
on the multifunction display, if a rear pas-
senger has unfastened his seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.

The driver must ensure that passen-
gers use the seat belts correctly and
that they are all restrained securely
before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the ve-
hicle, always fasten your seat belt,
even for short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a colli-
sion, emergency braking or if the ve-
hicle rolls over. You can release the
device by pulling rapidly on the strap
and releasing it. In order to be effective, a seat belt:
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one person of adult size only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking
that it does not twist,
- m u s t n o t b e a l t e r e d o r m o d i fi e d t o avoid altering its performance.
In accordance with current safety regu-lations, all repairs and checks must
be carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer
who guarantees that the work is car-
ried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and reeled in correctly. Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
shorter than one and a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to se-
cure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts
, the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air-
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants in
the event of violent collisions. They sup-
plement the action of the force-limiting
seat belts.
In this case, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side
impacts suffered in the impact detection
zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the air bags are deployed instantane-
ously and protect the occupants of
the vehicle; immediately after the
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y
so that they do not hinder the visibility
of the occupants or their possible
exit from the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the air bags will not be
d e p l o y e d ; t h e s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi -
cient to provide maximum protection
in these situations.
The deployment of one or more air
bags is accompanied by a slight
discharge of harmless smoke and
a noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sen-
sitive individuals may experience
some irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for
a short time. Front air bags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a serious
front impact in order to limit the risk of
injury to the head and chest.
The driver's air bag is incorporated in the
centre of the steering wheel; the front
passenger's air bag is incorporated in
the fascia above the glove box.
Activation
The air bags are triggered simultane-
ously, unless the passenger's front air
bag is disarmed, in the event of a serious
front impact applied to all or part of the
front impact zone
A , in the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.

The air bags do not operate when
the ignition is off.
This equipment only operates
once. If a second impact occurs
(during the same or a subsequent
accident), the air bag will not
operate.

If at least one of the two air bag
warning lights come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message on the multifunction
display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
switch 1 to the "ON" position to re-arm
the air bag and so guarantee the safety
of your front passenger in the event of
an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing light comes on on the seat
belt and passenger's front air
bag warning lights display for
approximately one minute, if the pas-
senger's front air bag is activated. To guarantee the safety of your
child, it is imperative that the pas-
senger's front air bag is disarmed
when you install a "rear facing"
child seat on the front passenger
seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
ing seriously injured or killed if the
air bag were triggered.
According to version, this warning
light comes on either on the
instrument panel or on the seat
belt and passenger's front air bag
warning lights display when the ignition is
on and until the air bag is re-armed. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s ,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
The passenger's front air bag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front air bag can
be disarmed:
with the ignition off, insert the key
in the passenger air bag disarming
switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the switch in this position.

Side air bags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous side impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the pelvis, chest and head.
The side air bags are incorporated on
the door side:
- on the one hand, in the front seat back frame (chest-pelvis air bag),
- on the other hand, in the front head restraint (head air bag).
Activation
The side air bags are triggered unilater-
ally in the event of a serious side impact
applied to all or part of the side impact
zone B , perpendicular to the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the outside to-
wards the inside of the vehicle.

ment panel comes on, accom-
panied by an audible signal and

display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
In the event of a light impact or
bump to the side of the vehicle of
if the vehicle rolls over, the air bags
may not be triggered.
In the event of a rear or front colli-
sion, the air bags are not triggered.

"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Four or six speed automatic gearbox
which offers a choice between the comfort
of fully automatic operation, enhanced by
sport and snow programmes, or manual
gear changing.
Therefore, four driving modes are of-
fered:
- automatic operation for electronic
management of the gears by the
gearbox,
- sport programme for a more dynamic
style of driving,
- snow programme to improve driving
when traction is poor,
- manual operation for sequential
changing of the gears by the driver. Gear lever
P. Park.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, hand- brake on or off.
- Starting the engine.
R. Reverse.
- Reversing manoeuvres, vehicle sta- tionary, engine at idle.
N. Neutral.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, hand- brake on.
- Starting the engine.
D. Automatic operation.
M.+/- Manual operation with sequential
changing of the four or six gears.
Press forwards to change up through
the gears.

Press rearwards to change down

Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can engage position P or N to place the
gearbox in neutral.
In both cases, apply the handbrake to
immobilise the vehicle. Operating fault
When the ignition is on, the
lighting of this warning light, ac-
companied by an audible signal
and a message on the multi-
function display, indicates a gearbox
malfunction.
In this case, the gearbox switches to
emergency mode and is locked in 3rd
gear. You may feel a substantial knock
when changing from P to R and from N
to R . This will not cause any damage to
the gearbox.
Do not exceed 60 mph (100 km/h), local
speed restrictions permitting.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
This warning light may also come on if a
door is opened.
I f t h e b a t t e r y i s fl a t a n d t h e l e v e r i s
in position P , it will not be possible
to change to another position.
Above all, do not force the lever as
this could damage the gearbox.
Manual operation
Select position M for sequential
changing of the four or six gears.
Push the lever towards the + sign to
change up a gear.
Pull the lever towards the - sign to
change down a gear.
D disappears and the gears
engaged appear in succes-
sion on the instrument panel.
In the event of under-revving
or over-revving, the gear se-
l e c t e d fl a s h e s f o r a f e w s e c o n d s , t h e n
the actual gear engaged is displayed.
It is possible to change from position D
(automatic) to position M (manual) at
any time.
When the vehicle is stationary or mov-
ing very slowly, the gearbox selects
gear M1 automatically.
The sport and snow programmes do not
operate in manual mode. If the lever is not in position
P ,
when the driver's door is opened or
approximately 45 seconds after the
ignition is switched off, an audible
signal is heard and a message ap-
pears.
Return the lever to position P ;
the audible signal stops and the
message disappears.
It is only possible to change from one
gear to another if the vehicle speed and
engine speed permit; otherwise, the
gearbox will operate temporarily in auto-
matic mode.
Invalid value during manual operation
This symbol is displayed if a
gear is not engaged correctly
(selector between two posi-
tions).

CHECKS
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil

health or indeed very corrosive.
D o n o t d i s c a r d u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s
into sewers or onto the ground.
Take used oil to a PEUGEOT deal-
er (France) or an authorised waste
disposal site.
Diesel additive level
(Diesel engine with particle
emission filter)
A low additive level is indicated by light-
ing of the service warning lamp, accom-
panied by an audible warning and a
message on the multifunction screen.
Used products
Unless otherwise indicated, check
these components in accordance with
the Maintenance and Warranty Guide
and according to your engine.
Otherwise, have them checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
B a t t e r y
The battery does not require
any maintenance.
H o w e v e r , c h e c k t h a t t h e t e r -
minals are clean and correctly
tightened, particularly in sum-
mer and winter.
When carrying out work on the battery,
refer to the "Practical information" sec-
tion for details of the precautions to be
taken before disconnecting the battery
and following its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Refer to the Maintenance and
Warranty Guide for details of
the replacement intervals for
these components.
Depending on the environment
(e.g. dusty atmosphere) and the use of
the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace
t h e m t w i c e a s o f t e n i f n e c e s s a r y (refer
to the "Engines" paragraph).
A c l o g g e d c a b i n fi l t e r m a y h a v e a n a d -
verse effect on the performance of the
air conditioning system and generate
undesirable odours. Particle emission filter (Diesel)
It is imperative that the maintenance of
t h e p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r i s c a r r i e d o u t
by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Oil filter
R e p l a c e t h e o i l fi l t e r e a c h t i m e
the engine oil is changed.
Refer to the Maintenance and
Warranty Guide for details of
the replacement interval for
this component.
Following prolonged operation of
the vehicle at very low speed or at
idle, you may, in exceptional cir-
cumstances, notice the emission
of water vapour at the exhaust on
acceleration. This does not affect
the behaviour of the vehicle or the
environment.
Topping up
This additive must be topped up by a
PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
