SAFETY
AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants in
the event of violent collisions. They sup-
plement the action of the force-limiting
seat belts.
In this case, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side
impacts suffered in the impact detection
zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the air bags are deployed instantane-
ously and protect the occupants of
the vehicle; immediately after the
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y
so that they do not hinder the visibility
of the occupants or their possible
exit from the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the air bags will not be
d e p l o y e d ; t h e s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi -
cient to provide maximum protection
in these situations.
The deployment of one or more air
bags is accompanied by a slight
discharge of harmless smoke and
a noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sen-
sitive individuals may experience
some irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for
a short time. Front air bags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a serious
front impact in order to limit the risk of
i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d a n d c h e s t .
The driver's air bag is incorporated in the
centre of the steering wheel; the front
passenger's air bag is incorporated in
the fascia above the glove box.
Activation
The air bags are triggered simultane-
ously, unless the passenger's front air
bag is disarmed, in the event of a serious
front impact applied to all or part of the
front impact zone
A , in the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front occupant of the vehicle and
the fascia to cushion his forward
movement.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
The air bags do not operate when
the ignition is off.
This equipment only operates
once. If a second impact occurs
(during the same or a subsequent
accident), the air bag will not
operate.

If at least one of the two air bag
warning lights come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message on the multifunction
display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
switch 1 to the "ON" position to re-arm
the air bag and so guarantee the safety
of your front passenger in the event of
an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing light comes on on the seat
belt and passenger's front air
bag warning lights display for
approximately one minute, if the pas-
senger's front air bag is activated. To guarantee the safety of your
child, it is imperative that the pas-
senger's front air bag is disarmed
when you install a "rear facing"
child seat on the front passenger
seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
i n g s e r i o u s l y i n j u r e d o r k i l l e d i f t h e
air bag were triggered.
According to version, this warning
light comes on either on the
instrument panel or on the seat
belt and passenger's front air bag
warning lights display when the ignition is
on and until the air bag is re-armed. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s ,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
The passenger's front air bag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front air bag can
be disarmed:
with the ignition off, insert the key
in the passenger air bag disarming
switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the switch in this position.

PEUGEOT recommends that chil-
dren should travel in the rear seats
of your vehicle:
- "rearwards-facing" up to the
age of 2,
- "forwards-facing" over the age
of 2.
GENERAL POINTS RELATING TO CHILD SEATS INSTALLING A CHILD SEAT USING A THREE POINT SEAT BELT
"Forwards-facing"
When a "forwards-facing" child seat is
installed on the front passenger seat ,
a d j u s t t h e v e h i c l e ' s s e a t t o t h e i n t e r m e -
diate longitudinal position with the seat
back upright and leave the passenger
air bag armed.
"Rearwards-facing"
When a "rearwards-facing" child seat is
installed on the
front passenger seat ,
it is essential that the passenger air
bag is disarmed. Otherwise, the child
would risk being seriously injured or
k i l l e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
Intermediate longitudinal position

Although one of PEUGEOT's main cri-
teria when designing your vehicle, the
safety of your children also depends on
you.
For maximum safety, please follow
these precautions:
- in accordance with European reg-
ulations, all children under the
age of 12 or less than one metre
fi f t y t a l l m u s t t r a v e l i n a p p r o v e d
child seats suited to their weight ,
o n s e a t s fi t t e d w i t h a s e a t b e l t o r
ISOFIX mountings * ,
- statistically, the safest seats in
your vehicle for the transportation
of children are the rear seats,
- a child weighing less than 9 kg
must travel in the "rearwards-fac-
ing" position both in the front and
in the rear.

In accordance with European regulations, this table indicates the options for the installation of child seats secured using the
seat belt and universally approved (a) in relation to the weight of the child and the seat i n the vehicle
(a) Universal child seat: child seat which can be installed in a ll vehicles using the seat belt.
(b) Group 0: from birth to 10 kg. Infant car seats and "car" cots cann ot be installed on the front passenger seat.
(c) Consult the legislation in force in your country before insta lling your child on this seat.
(d) To install a child seat, move the front seat forw ard, then put the seat back in the upright position to leave enough space for
the child seat and the child's legs. The front seat can be moved further forward than the intermediate longitudinal position.

ADVICE ON CHILD SEATS
Installing a booster seat
The chest part of the seat belt must
be positioned on the child's shoulder
without touching the neck.
Ensure that the lap part of the seat
belt passes correctly over the child's
thighs.
PEUGEOT recommends the use of
a b o o s t e r s e a t w h i c h h a s a b a c k , fi t -
ted with a seat belt guide at shoulder
level. As a safety precaution, do not leave:
- one or more children alone and
unsupervised in a vehicle,
- a child or an animal in a vehicle which is exposed to the sun, with
the windows closed,
- the keys within reach of children inside the vehicle.
The incorrect installation of a child
seat in a vehicle compromises the
child's protection in the event of an ac-
cident.
Remember to fasten the seat belts or
the child seat harnesses
keeping the
slack in relation to the child's body to
a minimum, e v e n f o r s h o r t j o u r n e y s .
For optimum installation of the "for-
ward facing" child seat, ensure that
the back of the child seat is in contact
with the back of the vehicle's seat and
that the head restraint does not cause
any discomfort.
Children under the age of 10 must not
travel in the "forward facing" position
on the front passenger seat, unless
the rear seats are already occupied by
other children, cannot be used or are
absent.
Disarm the passenger air bag when
a "rear facing" child seat is installed
on the front seat. Otherwise, the child
w o u l d r i s k b e i n g s e r i o u s l y i n j u r e d o r
k i l l e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
Do not use the passenger's neck
heater if a child seat is installed on the
front seat.
