SAFETY
AIRBAGS
The airbags have been designed to
maximise the safety of the occupants in
the event of violent collisions. They sup-
plement the action of the force-limiting
seat belts.
In this case, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side
impacts suffered in the impact detection
zones:
- in the event of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instantane-
ously and protect the occupants of
the vehicle; immediately after the
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y s o
that they do not hinder the visibility
of the occupants or their possible exit
from the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact or rear impact and in certain roll-over
conditions, the airbags will not be
deployed; the seat belt alone is suf-
fi c i e n t t o p r o v i d e m a x i m u m p r o t e c -
tion in these situations.
The deployment of one or more
airbags is accompanied by a slight
discharge of harmless smoke and
a noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated
in the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sen-
sitive individuals may experience
some irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for
a short time. Front airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous front impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the head and thorax.

above the glove box.
D e p l o y m e n t
The airbags are deployed simultaneously,
unless the passenger's front airbag is de-
activated, in the event of a serious front im-
pact to all or part of the front impact zone

in the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle
on a horizontal plane and directed from the
front to the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e t h o -
rax and head of the front occupant of the
vehicle and the steering wheel, driver's
side, and the dashboard, passenger's
side to cushion their forward movement.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
The airbags do not operate when
the ignition is off.
This equipment only operates once.
If a second impact occurs (during the
same or a subsequent accident), the
airbag will not operate.

effective, observe the following
s a f e t y r u l e s :
Sit in a normal upright position.
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
pet, object...). This could hamper the
operation of the airbags or injure the
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions mentioned
are observed, a risk of injury or of minor
burns to the head, chest or arms when
an airbag is deployed cannot be ruled
o u t . T h e b a g i n fl a t e s a l m o s t i n s t a n t l y
( w i t h i n a f e w m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s
within the same time discharging the
hot gas via openings provided for this
purpose. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resti
ng your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.
If possible, do not smoke as deployment of the airbags can cau se burns or the
risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags

airbags. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e s e a t b a c k s . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e
chest or arms if the side airbag is deployed.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e f r o n t h e a d r e s t r a i n t s . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y
to the head if the side airbag is deployed.
Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nea rer to the door than necessary.

SPEED LIMITER
System which prevents the vehicle from
e x c e e d i n g t h e s p e e d p r o g r a m m e d b y
the driver.
When the programmed speed limit is
reached, pressing the accelerator pedal
no longer has any effect.
The speed limiter is switched on man-
ually: it requires a programmed speed
o f a t l e a s t 2 0 m p h ( 3 0 k m / h ) .
The speed limiter is switched off by
manual operation of the control.
The programmed speed can be
e x c e e d e d t e m p o r a r i l y b y p r e s s i n g t h e
a c c e l e r a t o r fi r m l y .
To return to the programmed speed,
simply slow down to a speed below the
programmed speed.
The programmed speed remains in the
memory when the ignition is switched off. The controls of this system are grouped
together on stalk

The speed limiter cannot, in any
circumstances, replace the need
to respect speed limits, nor can it
replace the need for vigilance and
responsibility on the part of the
driver.

CRUISE CONTROL
System which automatically maintains
the speed of the vehicle at the value
programmed by the driver, without any
action on the accelerator pedal.
The cruise control is switched on
manually: it requires a minimum vehicle
s p e e d o f 2 5 m p h ( 4 0 k m / h ) a n d t h e e n -
gaging:
- of fourth gear on the manual gear- b o x ,
- of second gear on the automat- i c g e a r b o x , i n s e q u e n t i a l d r i v i n g
mode,
-
of position D o n t h e a u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x .
The cruise control is switched off man-
ually or by pressing the brake or clutch
pedal or on triggering of the ESP sys-
tem for safety reasons.
I t i s p o s s i b l e t o e x c e e d t h e p r o g r a m m e d
speed temporarily by pressing the ac-
celerator pedal.
To return to the programmed speed,
simply release the accelerator pedal.
Switching off the ignition cancels any
programmed speed value. The controls of this system are grouped

CHECKS
CHECKING LEVELS
Check all of these levels regularly and
top them up if necessary, unless other-
wise indicated.
I f a l e v e l d r o p s s i g n i fi c a n t l y , h a v e t h e
corresponding system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer. Brake fluid level
In addition, as the cooling system is
pressurised, wait at least one hour after
switching off the engine before carrying
out any work.
To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew
the cap by two turns to allow the pres-
sure to drop. When the pressure has
dropped, remove the cap and top up
the level.
Oil level The reading will only be correct
if the vehicle is on level ground
and the engine has been off for
more than 15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when the
ignition is switched on using the oil level
indicator on the instrument panel, or us-
ing the dipstick. T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d b e
close to the "MAX" mark. If it is
not, check the brake pad wear.
C h a n g i n g t h e fl u i d
Refer to the Warranty and Maintenance
Record for details of the interval for this
operation.
Power steering fluid level T h e p o w e r s t e e r i n g fl u i d l e v e l
should be close to the "MAX"
mark. Unscrew the cap, with the
engine cold, to check the level. Screenwash and headlamp
wash fluid
I n t h e c a s e o f v e h i c l e s fi t t e d
with headlamp washers, the
m i n i m u m l e v e l o f t h i s fl u i d i s
indicated by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction
screen.
Top up the level when you stop the vehicle.
Engine oil change
Refer to the Warranty and Maintenance
Record for details of the interval for this
operation.
In order to maintain the reliability of the
engine and emission control system,
the use of additives in the engine oil is
prohibited.

The oil must correspond to your en-
gine and conform to the manufacturer's

Changing the coolant
The coolant does not have to be
changed.

For optimum cleaning and to avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d m u s t n o t b e t o p p e d
up with or replaced with plain water.
Coolant level
The coolant level should be
close to the "MAX" mark but
should never exceed it.
When the engine is warm, the tempera-
ture of the coolant is regulated by the fan.
This can operate with the ignition off.

The coolant must conform to the manu-
facturer's recommendations.
When working under the bonnet,
take care, as certain areas of the
engine may be extremely hot (risk
of burns).
